Any threads containing any form of arguing are also no longer allowed, and is now punishable by death from scalping.

So it's not really a forum anymore then. Man, when they banned profanity I thought it was bad, then the chat thread, now I come back and they've outlawed discussion. I think I'll leave again. I used to really like posting here(as you can see by my post count), it's too bad what's happened.

Well, this thread is also for leavings, so I guess I'll say goodbye again. I'm going off to college in a couple months; gonna double major in economics and mathematics, with a minor in music. I'm already entering into college with half my credits satisfied, so I'll probably be taking a lot of weird classes as well.

In my year of absence I've changed a lot; I've converted to Catholicism for one. Became pro-life. Didn't see that one comin', did ya!? I don't even know if any of you even remember me, so maybe that's not a surprise, but I used to be so critical of religion when I was so ignorant of it.

Anyway, that's neither here not there. I miss what this place once was. I'll probably be coming back every few months maybe. I dunno.

Because you don't understand what gender is. Gender is by definition a matter of identity tied to social constructs as opposed to biological ones.

What do you mean by social constructs? If you're a female biologically but wear jeans and flannel and go monster truckin' on Fridays does that make you a male? If you're biologically male but like wearing pink and yellow and go dancing does that make you female? I don't see how preference of activity or attire or whatever else a social construct is changes whether you're male or female.

That's an unfortunate but inevitable consequence when the evolution of cultural context outstrips the evolution of the language used to communicate it. A related example is the pronoun "they" being both singular and plural, which is a common cause of confusion, similar to the vocabulary of sex and gender. When an entirely new context of usage is added to a language (e.g. the world of digital technology), the result is generally fairly painless as new terminology is simply invented where it's needed. But in cases where a pre-existing context is being revised, such as with the concept of gender identity, existing terminology is recycled and re-purposed, and the result can be a mess because the changes are necessarily amending rather than appending.

Exactly! It's a problem that gender theory is appropriating the words that they are. If they were to introduce new words into the vocabulary to describe people I would not have a problem with it. But the fact that they're using words that have always meant something purely biological and are using it to describe something completely unrelated, or at least claiming that they are, introduces a lot of problems. It's not that language is changing, it's that people are trying to force it to change to fit their goals.

That's the discrepancy between sex and gender. Maybe you personally feel that the concepts of sex and gender never should have been separate, but it's way too late to turn back the clock at this point, so you may as well at least learn to live with it.

It seems to me to be a discrepancy between gender and reality. I'd be perfectly fine if gender and sex were completely separate things, but if that were actually what people were claiming they wouldn't be using the same exact words to describe both. Man and woman have always meant biological sex. Yes, language does change, but you can't force it to change if not for a good reason, and saying that someone is something they're not is not a good reason.

There was any to begin with?

Maybe it only felt that way 'cause I was younger at the time, but I had fun talking about stuff back when there was PPNS and the chat thread. Now it's just a lot of boring topics it seems.

    Well good discussion for one.

The Fire Nation arrived and KANArbalist had a flame war with Tucking_Fypo. No more PPNS.

Well that would explain it. Seriously? Banning a whole range of topics because two users couldn't be civil? Whose decision was that?

So the last post I made was a year and a day ago. What's happened? There seems to be a lot missing.

I just got Super Smash Bros for the Wii U in preparation for college. Gotta make friends somehow, and my school has a Smash club. So yeah, Smash is definitely up there.

Far Cry 2 is definitely an underrated game. It's pretty formulaic, but it's such a great story and absolutely one of the most beautiful games ever made.

People like you are why it took me (and a lot of people) so long to come out. You may think you're funny but jokes like this just cause a lot of anxiety for kids who're trying to figure themselves out.

A lot of people, myself included, find that the way that gender is approached to be, frankly, silly. What you believe and feel about yourself does not change who you are in actuality. An identity is worthless if not reflected in reality. I understand that there are many difficulties for people who feel that their bodies do not reflect who they truly are, but a person's body is what it is and no amount of desire to the contrary will change that.

Out of respect I always address people by the pronouns they prefer, as it's common courtesy to refer to people the way they see themselves, but the disagreements people have with gender theory are numerous and legitimate.

    I see a disturbing lack of disco and dance pop. I'll correct that;

    Ace of Base
    Earth, Wind, and Fire
    Bee Gees
    Village People
    The O'Jays

I don't see how disco ever went out of style. Best stuff ever.
