I don't know about other people, but I'd happily get rid of silk touch in favour of some logical tools for collecting this stuff. A turf harvester for grass and mycelium, an ice tongs for ice, a spinning wheel (? idk) for cobwebs, a chisel for ores and smooth stone.
Actually, an alternative idea: since rotten flesh is already in the game, maybe keep it in. But make it a rare drop. Instead of it being human flesh, maybe it's the remains of whatever meat that the zombie was carrying. After all, they carry shovels and iron ingots and potatoes. Just make rotten meat one of those things.
Give Villagers (and also animals) at least different textures, if not a different AI - at least in the beginning / for a longer time.

If the AI remains the same, of course you can breed any gender, even if they are the same, with each other / villagers of same gender could have a child, too - as it would be only a difference in skin texture anyways, not in the AI.
This makes sense to me. I like Minecraft being progressive enough to allow for same-sex relationships, and since it's a fantasy world, why not let them make babies?
I was in the "Minecraft is genderless" camp until today, when the sounds came out, and I made up my mind that villagers, at the very least, need to have female representation.
The problem with rotten flesh is that it's contradictory. For some reason, Mojang didn't put Villager Meat in the game. Their reasons: it's gross, it's cannibalistic, and it encourages players to kill villagers, which isn't the kind of game this is.
But then there's zombie meat: it's gross, it's cannibalistic, and it encourages players to kill a human-based mob.
It's like no no no, you can't eat a villager only after you've killed them. First they have to be turned into a zombie and partially rotted away, and then it's fine to eat them.
Pick one, Mojang. Either include villager meat, or take out zombie meat. I'd vote for taking out zombie meat, because it really doesn't add much to the game.
I don't think it should be this way. Bonemeal already has tons of uses, and this one skips a key step, which is that bonemeal acts on stuff that already exists.
I do think it should be easier to get grass blocks, just not this way. There have been suggestions for "turf harvester" tools before that I would prefer.
That being said, there should be multiple varieties of quartz available. The current, opaque quartz would be the most common, followed by translucent quartz that looks opaque but transmits some of the light that hits it, glassy transparent quartz, citrine (yellow), smoky quartz, and amethyst, in that order.
I like the idea of multiple varieties, but if I was Mojang, I'd make them all light-passable (looks opaque, but lets light pass through, like a piston). There are plenty of opaque coloured blocks in the game already. Come to think of it, diamond and emerald blocks could do with this property too.

I'd use them if they were extremely cheaper than coal torches, and if I was caving, I don't need the caves to stay lit behind me once I'm done there.
It would be fun to try to survive the first night on charcoal torches though. After that, go get some real torches.
