posted a message on Farming Efficiency- Is the Wiki Accurate?
Hrmm, I wonder if anyone has taken a Look at the math the game uses to determine wheat growth. I mean, it isn't a subjective opinion, it is an objective fact dictated by the code. I now am running 4x9 column of wheat, 1x9 column of water, 4x9 column of wheat: Rinse/Repeat. Seems to work quite efficiently actually, I chose to do a full column of water for aestetic reasons rather than just one block of water.

posted a message on Farming Efficiency- Is the Wiki Accurate?
Hey all, just getting back into Minecraft after about 6 months or so and was wondering if farming efficiency was accurate on the Wiki. In particular regarding wheat and neigbouring blocks and their effect on growth. From what I can tell, If any block besides hydrated farmland is next to a growing wheat, it has a negative effect, including if water is next to the farm. I used to build my farms 1 column water, 1 column field, 1 column water, 1 column field... and so forth. I'm not sure if I am mistaken, but wasn't that once the best build since, if I remember correctly, fields used to have positive returns when more water was surrounding it?

If I am wrong, then the best farming would be a 9x9 square with one water in the centre and alternating rows of Field/Farmland. Yes/No?

posted a message on All texture packs have transparent border
Hey, haven't played in quite some time, but now that I came back, I notice all my texture packs have a white/transparent edge to all blocks. I tried updating the minecraft files, and still no go. Any idea on what this is? I googled "texture packs have transparent border" to no avail. So either this is something isolated, or something I am searching for wrong. any help is appreciated

posted a message on What is your opinion of the death penalty?
The biggest issue with actually being for the death penalty is this; What if we are wrong? If we kill a murderer, sure why not, but can we actually be 100% certain? The chance of killing an innocent person for a crime they didn't commit stops me from being pro-death penalty.

As for punishment I hate the cake walk they get here in Canada where you can get "life" in prison and be out in 25 years or less on good behaviour. No matter what, criminals should be made to work for society (eg chain-gangs in America) regardless of their crimes. All prisoners should have mandatory psychiatric care

Then you should be glad that automatic weapons have been banned in canada for a long time.

Yeah Yeah, but in general around the world I think the stipulations I made on firearms are very reasonable not just here in Canada.

Depends the use, type, and amount.

For a person 1 or 2 non-automatic small arms should be allowed. Professionals (police, rangers, soldiers) have a need of weapons as well, but useage is restricted to professional use. I disagree with people who have huge amounts of fully functioning automatic firearms.

posted a message on Do you belive in the "Big Bang"?
    As soon as I saw this thread I thought "oh god... this is a poorly disguised troll attempt" but giving the benefit of doubt I'll bite and respond;

Until there is a better supported theory based on the current and future evidence available the big bang is as factual as it can get.

Though it wasn't outright said, the concept " if we are just a consequence of the big bang, what's the point" was just narrowly skirted. The point to life is survival, and for humans since we have elaborate brains, our own experience. Ultimately, there isn't a "point". The origin of life is also a non-argument for the big bang; That science is Abiogenisis.

Ultimately it doesn't matter what you, me, or we believe; as evidence is found, the truth is built. I might believe that the planet is flat; reality disagrees.

    posted a message on Immortality
The only way it would be not be a curse is if you could choose to end your immortality. Or, if you had in addition to immortality god-like creation powers. Assuming the only thing that is stipulated is immortality, it would be a curse... Hell, immortality alone doesn't keep you from pain. Imagine burning for years as the sun engulfs the earth, the feeling of suffocation for eternity as you float through space, etc. No thanks.

posted a message on Mob spawning questions
So, I am trying to play around with mob killing traps, and I want to be able to move spawned mobs with water. I read in the Wiki that mobs don't spawn -in- water but does that mean water source blocks, or all water in general? Will they spawn in moving water? Also, from what I cam tell, 23blocks of falling will kill all mobs, right?

I am sure this has been answered before, but the search function isn't pulling up the info I need. Any help is much appreciated.

posted a message on World seeds generated differently
Instance 1 of the seed was made say around March or so. Instance 2 of the seed was made today, so I think there were two major updates between those dates. I guess there's nothing I can do, but it was just a minor thing I noticed.

No, I recognize everything except the variations I noted so it can't be a different area of the same seed. So I'll assume no one has heard of a change in the seed generation... but then how to explain the difference?

posted a message on World seeds generated differently
So, I was planning on re-making one of my maps on a seed I previously found to be desirable. However, with the same name an dseed info, the world generated is not the same. It isn't a massive change, but strange non the less. What changed is in the first instance of the seed, there was a surface cave with a small lava-fall. In the second instance of the seed, there was no lava-fall inside the cave, but there was a small waterfall outside the cave.

Did anyone know about a change in the way maps are generated from seeds? Or is this just a normal occurrence?
