the fps drop is horrible. standing still i get the usual 60 or so for me. start to move just an inch and it drops to 0 - 10fps. I really want to play 1.8, but the lag is not making it an enjoyable experience.
I hope they fix it soon. In the mean time, i'll be playing 1.7.10
Using 32 bit Java? See my sig.
(Java is not the cause btw, but 32 bit makes it worse)
If it requires 64 bit then Mojang should be telling people.
You do realize that despite a CPU or GPU being introduced on a certain date that said items are actually available on the market for about 1-2 years afterward?
No company starts to sell something and then pulls it off a few weeks later when something faster comes out. That would be financial suicide.
The best theory I've seen so far is that it's affecting people whose CPUs don't support AVX - that's holding up against the evidence well so far.
There are a lot of people having fps issues, and lag issues.
One of the solutions has been to download and install 64bit java.
However, I have learned that Oracle directs you during the download process to 32bit version if you are using a 32bit browser, which most people do unless they use 64bit Internet Explorer, that comes with windows 7 and windows 8, which is not the default or they have manually installed 64bit versions of their favorite browser.
So, for those having issues, click task manager with the launcher running and see if it says 32bit or SE binary for 64bit. if you are indeed running 32bit, and most likely are running a 32bit browser, download the 64bit version for offline installs here:
Hey guys. So everyone has been complaining about all th lag in 1.8 exept for me and a couple of people. Now the only thing I can think of as different with my minecraft is a decent computer and 64bit java instead of 32bit
maybe that was the problem. Some people had the defult 32bit java rather then 64bit which means they can only have 1 GB on minecraft wail 64bit allows up to 10.
Hope this helps anyone
The other thread already came to the same conclusion:
For anyone having FPS problems that they didn't have in 1.7: make sure you're using 64 bit java, not 32 bit. It won't solve the problem, but will reduce it.
Moral of the story is: there's a problem, and making sure you're using 64 bit Java and not 32 bit helps (but a real fix will have to come from Mojang).

Going from 32 bit Java to 64 bit is the biggest improvement you can make at the moment.

Hey Emilmacko, could you share the preset for the image on the left?

The black areas aren't caves, btw, just the lighting misbehaving: they're cliff faces.

Lots of people are getting lag. Do you have 32 bit Java?

It's actually Java 64 bit that makes the difference, as opposed to just Windows 64 bit. You'll suffer much more on 32 bit Java.

Yes, 64 bit Java doesn't remove the problem, but does reduce the severity.
