My last run-in with frustration and failure brought my hopes up (and consequently knocked them down).
I did as instructed. I opened Minecraft through the Minecraft patcher thing that is required. Checked "texture pack" and left it as the default that pops up. Set the tile size to 128x128 and made sure "animated fire" was not checked, and hit run.
I get to the main menu fine and add the Okami file into the texturepack folder. From here I was able to get to the singleplayer menu and clicked on it, still default. I tried to go back to the "texture pack and mods" menu and click on the Okami pack that is under the default, and it crashes (error). Trying to exit out and start it back up only brings the error message again at first try.
I have the same issue. Followed the instructions perfectly and even tried experimenting a bit to get around it but every time I try to start it up it says there's an error.

I don't feel like I can really say much more as I wouldn't even begin to know where to start a texture pack with a theme let alone finish one.

I figure I will just wait to see if there are any fixes or keep trying to figure out how to make it work.
