Aug 19, 2013Hello everyone! Just thought I would hop on in here to announce my new Minecraft Let's Play series featuring the 'Magic Farm' mod-pack by Jadedcat and distributed through the Feed the Beast launcher. This mod-pack is described as "Don't Starve combined with TerraFirmaCraft like changes and a tiered tech system" and intends to "Put the survival back in Minecraft." More information on the mod-pack as well as the Feed the Beast launcher can be found at the links provided at the end of this post.Posted in: Let's Plays
As far as the series goes, I decided to start it (and discontinue my old series) after my available free time started to get short. I had been using a custom setup that I had made myself but decided that the time and effort that took was no longer worth it; I was finally willing to give up some control for increased convenience. This also means that anyone that is interested in following along or simply using the same set of mod that I am currently using can easily download the mod-pack themselves!
I am attempting to follow a pretty typical Let's Play format: I am trying to keep episodes at around thirty minutes and I am doing my best to explain the things I understand as well as what I am learning while playing (I am by no means an expert on all the mods included and some I have never used before). It is a legitimate game (no cheats) being played on Hard with few tweaks to the default setup. Also, I am trying to keep the monotonous / boring stuff cut out of the videos to provide a more entertaining and less time-wasting experience.
If you are interested the first video of the series is posted below. You can find more at my YouTube channel as well as view the playlist containing the entire series here.
Any feedback is greatly appreciated and I hope you enjoy!

Any reason why my aluminum brass wont pour onto my wooden pick axe pattern? It works fine if theres nothing in the casting table but as soon as you put a wooden pattern it doesnt work.
Using FTB unleashed.
You could try making a wood/stone pickaxe head with the part builder, putting that into the casting table and then pouring the aluminum brass around it to create a cast. Just a different method to obtain a cast.

hmm, there seems to be an incompatibility with atmoicstrykers multi-mine mod, if you have it installed advanced tools like the Hammer or the lumber axe only harvests the block you are currently mining, not the 3x3x1 that they should. Might be something to look into if you have the time mDiyo.
P.S. i am running the newest mods for the 1.5.2 version.
As far as I know, the tools that break more than one block don't actually 'mine' said blocks. Those blocks are just broken when the block you are mining is. So this isn't really a bug as far as I can tell, just the way things work.

Does anyone know what casting basins are for?
They are another method of obtaining metal blocks (such as iron and gold blocks, as well as all the other mod ores/alloys) as well as a few other things like clear glass and brownstone.

Same way I made the other parts. I use the pattern for plate on the tool forge to make a wood plate, and then I take that wood plate to a casting table, set it on there, and try to pour the ingots over it to form a cast.
You have at least two ingots worth of gold in your smeltery? What happens when you right-click on the faucet, nothing or does material flow out?

Yeah, I can't seem to make plate casts for some reason. Everything else works. Does Gold not work to create plate casts?
How are you making the cast, by using a wooden pattern in the casting table or an actual plate made of a different material?

Luck by itself without adding fortune to the tool doesn't do anything.
I thought mDiyo said luck by itself does 'something.' I may be mistaken, but I believe with a pickaxe with just luck I would occasionally get an extra drop from coal, etc. Seemed to be a whole lot more rare than fortune, but there nonetheless. Of course, I could be completly wrong.

You are having a block ID conflict. You need to track down the conflict (which seems to be between Liquid XP and Extra Cells?) and alter the configuration file for one of the mods, changing the block ID 4095 to another open ID. You can use NEI to dump a list of used / free block IDs if you need to.
This crash only appears when adding Tinker's Construct? Because it doesn't even seem to be related.
Jul 18, 2013Just checking in again after reaching my first real 'milestone'; episode 10 is now available. I have also done a little tweaking to my recording setup, specifically boosting my microphone output; any feedback about that (or any other aspect of the series) would be greatly appreciated. My voice felt a little soft in some of the other videos so I decided to boost the levels via my recording software since the microphone volume level was already maxed out. Hopefully things are a bit more balanced now.Posted in: Let's Plays
Looking forward to continuing the series and sharing the experience with all of you, I hope you enjoy and I will see you in the next episode!

Do you know what mods are incompatible with this one as I tried to add this to my new mod pack and my minecraft crashed.
Really need more information before we will be able to help you. The error log would be a good start.

I'm pretty sure that's intended...
Why else would there be "empty" slots?
Some would think these slots should be locked to only accept the proper items; at least I would. Is that what the mod author intended and it is bugged, or was it not something implemented in the first place? Only mDiyo can clarify that. It may not make any significant difference but if it is intended to have the slots reject items that don't 'fit' then it should be brought up if that isn't working. If it isn't already intended it could make a nice suggestion; again while not adding much in terms of real significance it would add a bit of polish to the system (and maybe remove a possible source of unneeded questions when people are randomly putting items in the slots and nothing is happening; if the item doesn't go in, they know right off it isn't a proper item instead of allowing any item in and just having improper items do nothing).

Look, no offense mDiyo, you keep releasing new stuff, and that's awesome. Your mod is awesome. However, not everybody is always playing the latest bleeding edge dev build. I haven't for example.
You added new stuff, bows, strings, glowing glowcrystal, that aggregator thingy, thamcraft support and all that, and you provide zero information whatsoever as to how to obtain them or what they do.
It would be nice if you spend a little bit more time on the in-game books instead of being so solely focused on delivering content since you can't be bothered to maintain a wiki for information.
In fairness generally the last thing to be updated after major changes in pretty much anything is the documentation, especially when the aforementioned changes are still in development and therefore in a state of flux with information that could change. This is a risk you take when using development versions. Although, I just noticed that version 1.4.0 is being touted as a 'stable' release so I can also see where you are coming from; stable releases would generally be expected to have up-to-date accompanying in-game documentation (although I am still using 188.8.131.52 so cannot verify if that information is present or not in the newest releases). Either way, all the information required is available here in the thread; it may not necessarily be the most user-friendly format but it is there.
As far as maintaining a wiki, I applaud mDiyo's work on making all of the pertinent information available in-game. The information that is not provided in-game is available here in this thread for those that look (or ask; please do look around and read the OP first though). If there was enough demand for a wiki I am sure there would be a community-maintained one made (and kept updated; I believe there is one that is extremely out-of-date). The current versions are still from what I understand in pretty much a 'release candidate' stage as opposed to a truly 'stable' release so I would think the in-game documentation will be updated to reflect the new information soon if it hasn't been already.

Just wondering if anyone else has this happen to them.
Clear glass acts as an X-Ray glitch.
Same happens for me using the most recent stable version. It only affects the molten glass (the clear glass blocks are fine) so it isn't too big of a deal. I believe this may be related to a vanilla rendering issue? Thought I might have seen that mentioned somewhere before but can't say for sure.
Jul 13, 2013Just a quick update. Episode 05 is now available and I am doing my best to keep on a daily release schedule. Assuming that it isn't against any forum rules I will keep posting updates every five episodes to try and keep information as fresh as possible without too much spam (forum staff: please let me know if this is not allowed). I hope you all enjoy and I look forward to seeing you again in future episodes!Posted in: Let's Plays
