Is this working for SMP for 1.4?

Can this work in single player? For example some terrain mods only work in single player. It'd be nice to make a large map quickly in single player and port it over to SMP.

What are you looking for support with on this server? Mods? Maintenance and maintaining up time? Set up?

Are you just using the .exe to start the client and server? Try using the java command to launch the jar files and let us know the errors you get. Also check event viewer for errors.

map might be bad. Change the world name in server.properties files to create a new world. This will tell us if it is a bad map or a bad jar file.

I'm sure you can fix it somehow. I don't use the executable, I just run my server from the .jar file so I'm not very familar. Eitherway, all your stuff is in the world folder so your data is safe. A

ssuming you have no mods, just download the minecraft_server.jar file to a new folder. Copy your world folder and server property files to the new folder. Launch the minecraft_server.jar file and it should run fine with your old world and settings.

How does it force minecraft to generate new chunks?

You may have messed with the wrong .jar file. Were you editing minecraft_server.jar when you were playing with texture packs?

What are you talking about? Does you're computer yell at you for trying to play both at once? Does it give an error message? What happens? Please describe the issue.

what happens when you double click on the minecraft_server.jar file?

did you change the terminal directory using the "cd" command? You're telling the java virtual machine to use the minecraft_server.jar file. But it can only do that if it knows where to look. You should change the working directory to the one where minecraft_server.jar is located before trying to run that command.
