posted a message on When will the 1.2.6 update be released?
It would be simply awesome if it came out tomorrow, but realistically, I'm thinking either next week (it'll have been roughly 3 months since the last major update), or the week after. This all comes from the fact that they've been updating near or around Thursdays nowadays.

I think the merging is a better idea than keeping them separate. As is right now, the game is not very user friendly to set up your own server, and the way the game operates on the Pocket and Xbox editions is what I would like if I want to host a little server of my own. Now, I just want to make sure dedicated servers can still be used, but I think this all will work out to make everything much easier for everyone in the long run, they just need to perfect it a bit in the meantime.

posted a message on New Golden Apple! (With effects)
I dunno, for that amount of gold, I figured there would be more time for regen, or at least some sort of temp invincibility, but I guess with all those effects going at the same time, it's just about as good.

Guess people will have to go nuts trying to find enough gold from the nether to get that recipe again. At least there is now more options to getting gold now.

posted a message on Why does a 16 bit game need an HDTV for split screen?
The textures are 16-bit, but everything else is voxel based (i.e. 3D cube polygons), and those are waaaay more graphics intensive. But did you read why they chose to limit it only to HDTV?s The problem with standard definition TV's is that they cannot display certain sized text and objects well enough to be discernible to the naked eye. So basically they noticed that on SDTV's, whenever someone was in splitscreen, they couldn't make out a lot of the details, like what blocks were what and how many blocks they had, let alone the text within the game. They made HD mandatory for splitscreen because they thought people would complain about it (i.e. irony). In hindsight, they should have just left it in for people to discover this fault for their own and decide on their own terms whether they want an HDTV or not.

posted a message on LOADS OF DIAMONDS
I hear ya TC, I was able to find about 12 diamond Ina mine I created in the middle of my world. I was initially worried that I wouldn't find any because there was a rumor that no diamonds would spawn on seed maps on the Xbox version. My world seed was 02261984, and I found the diamonds in the middle of the map roughly where layer 10 would be if anyone wants a world seed with some.

posted a message on Suggestions for Minecraft XBLA Improvements
Customizable controls I definitely agree with, even though I'm really digging the second control scheme, I really do wish I had the triggers set like the first one instead of being reversed.

As for world size, so far it's good for 4 people, but the game can benefit from a slightly bigger world, maybe just double the size and zoom out the map a bit so you can still see the entire world?

Control wise, I use southpaw and it's actually pretty smooth for me, I adjusted it to 115% and seems to be perfect for me.

I definitely would like some sort of share option for worlds that aren't yours. I thought this was an option available before, and maybe it's still planned, but I think people would like to have a copy of a world that they have been working on so that they can do what they want with it.

Traveling around will obviously get updated with sprinting and whatnot, and all other grievences is more or less just the fact that I'm dealing with a 1 year old version that I grown out of in light of the adventure update.

posted a message on My Thoughts on World Maps Being 1000x1000...
I agree completely with you TC, as is, the 1000x1000 is decent and 2000x2000 would be sufficient enough to make the world large enough to satisfy some people. I do know some friends who insist on going over 5,000 away from spawn, but that's usually on a server so they can have a private house away from prying eyes. This version of the game seeming to be more personable, especially with the inclusion of splitscreen actually makes the limit doable in comparison. Time will tell when I'll exhaust some of the more precious resources in a world on the Xbox version, but I have a feeling it'll take a long while just by myself, 8 people will definitely drain it pretty quick.

posted a message on My Master Chief from Halo Sprite
Hello everyone! I decided since I shared my Mario Map sprite, I figure I would share other works on my server. Now since making sprites are easy to do in creative, I decided to do this via survival to make it require a bit more work and just make the result that much sweeter.

So here ya go, Master Chief!

And here he is again at night!

The sign that is below, just for credit's sake.

Now I cannot take credit for the general design of the sprite, that I found via Google Images, however my friend cjb helped plan the thing out by mapping the individual bits into excel so I knew how much materials I needed and reference where to place the appropriate blocks. The glowstone I put on when I went into creative to spruce up the other sprites on the server so they stood out during night time, so that I can't admit to doing via survival mode.

Required pieces via Google doc: https://docs.google.com/open?id=17TPSeUvBsaKX3JDnuAIvT7qi7zo66NkWAfXsFLkfenFUCwfVtOFbIWaPCQ_z.

Enjoy and let me know what you think!

So far I'm digging how it looks, looks pretty spot on, at least as far as your really going to get via Minecraft. Though I do have some questions, it does look like you are doing this via a flatworld type, what will you do when you get to caves that go underground? <-Assuming that the cave systems had stairs to a lower level, it's been YEARS since I played it.

Could you do more sprites like this?

Yes, it is possible, but it is quite limiting on what kind of sprites since I only have various shades of green (grass and tree tops), brown (wood), different shades of gray (any stone block and ores), red (lava), blue (water) and yellow (sand). I find that NES sprites work best as motivation to work with since they are basic in design and don't require a lot of colors, not to mention they are very open to improvising.

nice idea you should do link next

Actually that is a great idea! It really only requires about 3 different colors to work, I actually will try that, I even have a great spot for it. I think the bottom right section of that desert that is wide open seems perfect. Might have to surround the sprite with grey for it stick out better, but it should be doable. Thanks for the idea!

posted a message on My Mario Sprite...That Can Be Seen on a Map
:biggrin.gif: Thanks everyone! I think it took me roughly 10 hours to make, give or take. Most of the time was really clearing out the whole area and getting the whole area set up. Once I started laying down the pixels, I noticed that I had to keep a reference between all of them, so that's why you see all the black dots (obsidian). I hope that this motivates people to create their own work (assuming no one has done anything like this), cause I would love to see other works too.

As for the download, I'll have to DL it since it's on my server and figure out how to post it for anyone wishing to get a good glimpse of it.

Again, thanks for the positive comments, getting me back into the creative spirit to try top this :smile.gif:

posted a message on My Mario Sprite...That Can Be Seen on a Map
Hello everyone! Long time viewer and first time posting.

Anyhoo, I noticed that a lot of people would make fantastic creations and I figured I would share my own since I don't really see much with regards to map art since its such a huge feat to take (assuming you do it in creative or survival). I must note that it's not entirely finished right now, I want to put down grass all around it so it stands out more and doesn't blend so much with the natural geography.

Well here ya go, here's what it looks like on the map.

Here's what it looks like from an aerial view.

And what the area looked like prior to me leveling the whole thing out and doing the whole thing.

Needless to say, it was more difficult planning than anything since I needed a lot of space since each "pixel" needs to be an 8x8 in whatever material. And since I had a limited palette of colors, I had to improvise a bit with everything. Certainly height of where the blocks are determines the shading of the color, but fortunately it worked out enough.

Let me know whatcha think and if someone else has done something similar, I would love to see what they did and compare! Thanks for viewing!
