    Hey everyone!

This is the monument for my map. I would like some feedback for it :)

I like it. it serves the purpose of being a monument area, and at least I won't get lost in it or will have to run around miles and miles to get from the monument to my local storage. There's nothing wrong with making the players setup a base in a simple environment.

As stated a little bit above, maps do not need gimmicks, and they also don't need one of the following:
    - An insane size.
    - Block variation.
    - Custom mobs.
    - Custom loot.
    - Insanely big areas.

As long as it is fun to play and well balanced, a map can be good. There's a lot of maps that are just focusing on what's not at the core for making a fun map.

Not yet, will be soon *hint hint*. Sorry for the advertising, but I was looking for this too and couldn't really find anything. Jigarbov made this:

    http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/mapping-and-modding/maps/1555420-infinity-dungeon-a-random-dungeon-crawler-map

But I found it gets boring quick.

Shameless self advertising, I'm working on this:

Release unkwown but will be there.

The lava flows conflict the round shape. I'd suggest spreading out more or so. Looks good otherwise.

    @Krose stop torturing me :(

The problem I'm having with that is that it's letting out a redstone signal constantly whether I'm near the creeper or not.
I don't know if I did something wrong or what. It also says stuff like:

    [CodeMasterXD: Found CodeMasterXD]

    you're executing @a there, probably.

Command blocks are a pain (for me at least). I've been trying to make this concept for a mob that triggers when a player comes near it, but I haven't been able to figure out exactly how. When I do: /execute @e[Type=Creeper] ~ ~ ~ testfor @p it doesn't work

I've added ~'s after the @p part too. I'm pretty sure this is possible, I just can't figure it out. Any help here? :P

    Thanks,

    Chipmunk46

    @e[type=Creeper] ~ ~ ~ testfor @a[r=<input radius as int: r=1, r=2,=3 etc.>]

    So for radius of 3:
    execute @e[type=Creeper] ~ ~ ~ testfor @a[r=3]

Speaking of which, January is a good time for people, right? Most people's spring semesters will just be starting, although I did have fall semesters that went into January a little bit when I was in high school. So perhaps a week or two in? We should start a poll or something. Any of the first 3 weekends of January work equally well for me.

Oh and Krose, I'm still working on that filter. Converting a written-out string of NBT tags to actual NBT format is harder than you'd think. I wish I knew how Minecraft did it. Thankfully, working with Python is probably easier than working with Java.

If people actually put stuff in strings, literal.eval should return you a nice dictionary. Then you can just iterate over that ;-)

Concerning your other worry rubisk, the example with a lot of reviews scoring 8 8 8 8. You're right, R would always be lower than the straight average. Nevertheless, the formula would apply to all cases, so a map with a lot of reviews scoring 7 7 7 7 would get a lower R value, and a map with a lot of reviews scoring 9 9 9 9 would get a higher R value. If you have any idea how it could be done to avoid this problem, let me know via post or PM.

That really bothers me. If people rate something at a certain value, then who are we as a community to edit that rating? I can understand you'd want a corrected average (take out the scores that differ too much, or only count them half or so) on maps with 3+ reviews, but otherwise it just doesn't make sense, if 4 people rate something at 8 8 8 8, to get a final score that's lower than that.

you have no idea how much this annoys me

why do we need gimmicks in every map - let alone a collab map where all the participants have different understandings of a gimmick and is incredibly hard to coordinate between other people? people are wishing too much when they're playing ctm maps, and if there's a community I could compare us to it'd probably be the tf2 community

Get crap update - "We want 'x' content and 'y' maps and 'z' gamemode!
Next update gives those three things - "It's not good enough, too boring, needs something more, spend more time on it"

same thing is happening in this community, and is probably why a lot of maps aren't out atm

edit: quotes are currently f'ing up for me. he said something about the map needing "some special gimmick to help the map along"

I think this is the actual first time I completely agree with you :D

    math stuff

Well, at least we know what all your letters stand for right now. I really disagree with lowering ratings on average. I haven't checked this mathematically (yet), but if 4 people rate something 24 the total outcome should never end up being 23. That's really awkward, weird, and unlogical.

    Well, proving that was easy.

If an unlimited amount of people rate something 8,8,8,8, the score system would end up looking like:

    (8/10)^(1/(11-8))*(8+8+8) = 0.8^(1/3) * 24 = 22.3 = 22.

So if, say, 1, 10, or 100,000 people rated a map at 24 points the total score would end up being 22.

Btw, kaladun, AI or someone else, what exactly is the difference between {}, [] and ()? I'm pretty sure () means "treat what's inside here as one answer), where {} and [] are used for matrices and arrays. Can [] and {} be used as () too?

R: Rating (your comment on this was funny rubisk, you looked too much into it)

Em. Dude. That has nothing to do with me looking into it, it's basic math knowledge. an R that looks like that means a collection of all real numbers, not some variable. In that case, a normal R or just Rating should be used. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Set_(mathematics)#Special_sets

If you're willing to post a giant formula on the forums that uses summations and everything, then be sure to at least use normal looking characters.

Thank you very much TyphlosionGOD for your review on Terra Restore, I was waiting for somebody to finish it and share thoughts. I had the feeling that it is a map a lot of people would rate with 10 in Overall Enjoyment. Are there any other members of the community currently playing this?

In other news, we have had 23 reviews in the last five pages, that's a 25% of the total. I have decided not to update the second post till we decide on the new format. I'm working on it, will share some examples here in a couple weeks so all of you can give feedback.

    For now, I'm sharing this:

It's the formulae I'm proposing to adopt in order to get less possitive bias, disregard extreme ratings and get a community averaged score. If you want to hear how it works, it's fine with me, but it should be done in another moment, I'm running out of time now. In the meanwhile, if anybody wants to upload some reviews of Ragecraft II, that would be cool, as I would be using it as an example. Specially interested in those harsher reviews like Tasch's (maybe Fangride?) Thanks in advance!

I don't really like the fact that this formula, with the 1 / 11-E makes good ratings count less strong. That seems awkward to me. You might be overcomplicating quite some stuff, why not just take all ratings, cut out the highest/lowest (or most extreme/different) one, and then average out?

There's one thing though, that I think isn't really good. The average reader of this forum probably doesn't have the mathematical skills to get a little bit of understanding about how your formula would impact the ratings. I can make some sense out of it, but I'm pretty sure it will be over 6 months of university before you can even read that thing completely, I don't know what all the ~s exactly mean. This community should be open, and therefore the map ratings should be understandable, not a formula that's, well, that.

BTW, if you post a formula, would be kinda helpful if you'd at least explain what E and S are :P I'm assuming S is an individual rating and E is some sort of rating bias constant?

Wait what are you exactly doing? You're saying that, flooring (int means floor, right) a collection of complicated stuff makes it equal to the collection of all real numbers. As far as I understand it, that would mean that |R would contain only non-decimal numbers, which is false.
