I've done a lot of searching, and I cannot figure out how to use the seed bags.

How do they work? I've tried placing them in crafting grids with seeds, left clocking, right clicking, having seeds next to it in the hotbar. I just cant get it to do anything.

Cool mod, But I find myself removing it when moving delicately. In Blast off there are spiral stairs with no barrier on the outside, and spires of minerals. I find myself tap-tapping the forward key to creep around, then of course double tap on forward = run which is totally nuts.

The speed buff needs a key to toggle it so I dont keep falling off. It's just way too much speed. Does the speed stack with enchanted boots? If so this would be insane.

I'd rather speed boost stop at 1 or 2, then you gain step-up ability.

Nice to have: configurable field of view change.

Is there a config file where I can edit these things?

posted a message on [1.7.2] Seed with EVERY 1.7.2 biome within 1900 blocks
I built beneath the witch hut at 152, 182. This witch hut has a large lake to the west so there is less I need to light up to improve witch farm efficiency.
The roofed forest and swamp trees I have been steadily clearing for wood. The roofed forest is a bit difficult to light.
There is a dungeon nearby which in my world is spawning spiders, I havent found a skeleton spawner yet.

I keep some horses on the slab roof over the witch farm which has a fence around it..
I've mined a perimeter tunnel at level 11 around the witch farm along X= 16 to X=280 and Z=48 to Z=310.
I've also walled up any caves or canyons that extend past there and I've used the gunpowder from the witchfarm and leaf blocks to blast out some 3x4 tunnels in a big cross shape to the perimeter tunnel from my base room in the center. Now I'm slowly gridding out the area within my perimeter tunnel at 10 block spacings.
Every tunnel I dig I place a torch on the floor every 5 blocks and I stick to even 10s and 5s for my mineshafts. I mark every 5 because the blasting technique I use needs the tnt and leaves 5 blocks apart for the chain reaction to work.
I should have laid my mine out on level 12, not 11, because the blasting is going into the lava layer which gets annoying, I have to chase after the explosions with a bucket of water.

I go out and shoot cows with flaming arrows for food, there seem to be plenty spawning in my area because so much of it is water.

I think I've got almost all of the caves in the area so far, There are some crazy mazes of tunnels where I've been following the sounds of mobs trying to find them in small enclosed pockets - a 3d sound driver would be very useful.

I have more iron than I need doing this, I've got 2 stacks of blocks. What do you want the iron farm for?
I have also got stupid amounts of redstone, glowstone and sugar which I need to think of a use for.
I'm thinking of building a mob farm in the sky next, I need more gunpowder and xp for good pick enchantments.
I'm also thinking of using these 4 double chests of cobble to slab the surface near the perimeter as a no-mans land to improve food and witch spawning near my base.

posted a message on Advanced Bows - with Hand Guard and Multiple Woods!
Thread dig, but my thoughts fit closely to the thread.
Standard bow mechanics are horribly unbalanced. I have half a chest full of 100% durability bows assembled from skeleton drops repaired together. Resources (other than cobblestone, dirt etc) should not build up like this. It is a clear sign the balance of the tool is very wrong.

    Consistency with other tools
I like the advanced bow idea, but it should be modeled after the other tools not different woods, realism be dammed, crafting and stuff is hard enough to remember as it is. Yes a cobblestone bow sounds stupid, but it fits in the scheme of other tools. It's no more stupid than a gold pick: if you hit a stone with a gold pick it will squash the pick and leave the stone unmarked. Tool materials are unrealistic already so just stick with the theme.

Crafting should be three string, two sticks, and a piece of whatever in between the two sticks - be it plank, cobblestone, iron, gold, or a diamond. - using plank in the middle for a wooden one goes some way to addressing the cheapness of three sticks.

    Overpowered, very overpowered.
I fished a bow with 4 enchantments once, flame, infinity, power 4 and unbreaking something, it was ridiculous. I shot at cows as I explored, killing and cooking them in one shot. With a good shot a hostile mobs are often killed with one shot given time to burn. Durability with unbreaking would have been around 500 uses, and with infinity enchantment it meant you could shoot with no thought to conservation of ammo, it is like a Rambo movie. When it wore out it was a cheap repair at around 8XP.
I ended up with more cooked steaks and leather than I knew what to do with, I still have two stacks of leather and two stacks of steaks from the bow so I haven't bothered farming or searching for books for my enchanting bookshelves. I was actually kinda glad when I lost it in a mining accident with lava, things were getting boring. I started picking fights with endermen at ground level for a bit of a challenge.

    Enchantments
need to be limited to 1 or 2 at a time, not 4.
Infinity enchantment has to go, it ruins the balance of the tool. farming chickens and repeatedly mining a stack of gravel is not difficult.

    Durability
The durability of a basic bow needs to be drastically reduced, it's just way too cheap to get 385 uses from three sticks.
standard durability tables seem a but too high to me but would be a good start.
    Wood = 60, Stone = 132, Iron = 251, Gold = 33, diamond = 1532

    Accuracy
the bow is extremely accurate once you are familiar with the rate of fall Vs distance. The sniper achievement is easy to get, especially if you trap a skeleton in the corner of a fence and back away. If there is a way to reduce accuracy with distance it would be better. Perhaps the golden bow can keep the current accuracy. Or the fall rate of the arrow is different with the different types of bows, have the gold one shoot very flat.

Found a library with a floor level of Y=4 in one of the strongholds. It looks quite spooky with the void particles and lighting.
The one mixed in with the abandoned mine.
I've found three libraries in this one alone, and one has diamonds in the abandoned mine next to it.

posted a message on Did Riverworld Series by Philip Jose Farmer inspire Notch?
Waking up with nothing and building and travelling, it is VERY much like Riverworld in a few ways.

In the start of the first book, everyone who has ever lived wakes up on the shores of a virtually endless river millions of kilometres long, they are in the body of a 25 year old. they are naked and have nothing, except for a metal cylinder tied to their wrist.
Resources are hard to find, the grass is tough and needs bamboo tools to cut through, there is almost no metal in the soil. the only source of food is the metal cylinders and fish in the river - but how to you make a fish hook and line? The cylinders get recharged several times a day of placed on special stones spaced about a mile apart along the riverbanks (this is about where it diverges markedly from minecraft)
If you die you wake up again on the riverbank, naked in the body of a 25 year old, except for a metal cylinder tied to your wrist.....

I searched for one and found it had not been done except for a towny server which is no more.
Someone else started a thread in maps which got me thinking about translating the world from the books into minecraft. I put some comments in there but I think they are more appropriate here.
Hopefully this thread captures the imagination of someone with the skills to mod the game - If my idea is any good.

Here's a very small wikipedia article on the series:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riverworld

Following is my thoughts on it which coalesced over the space of an hour last night. Pasted here with an edit:

Limit the mobs, crafting and minerals too, but not so much that things are boring.
For the sake of interesting gameplay and the engine mechanics you'd have to make some compromises in the mod compared to the book.

I have no idea if this is even feasible, it's just a "wouldnt it be cool if" from a minecraft noob.
The interactions of the changes would need to be tweaked to make for a balanced enjoyable gameplay.
    Changes to Minecraft code required
    Physics changes:
Dirt, stone and cobblestone fall like gravel and sand. they take more hits to break. Mining has to be HARD like it is in the books. There should be no stone structures or if any they should be difficult to make. if you want to try to get over the valley wall you will have to use wood planks or make a massive pile of dirt.
this means no caves, but there aren't any in the books unless they cut through mountains. You cant mine through these valley wall mountains, they are bedrock all the way to the sky, (well perhaps a very rare way though to another valley here and there)
Massive stores of mined materials might be a bad thing, perhaps cobblestone is a rare drop from mining stone like flint is from gravel. It means a long time before stone tools or stone buildings.
I dont know what you'd do with lava, there isnt any in the books it wouldn't really exist anyway because most of the ground is affected by gravity .

Not being able to build a hole to hide in for the first night would change the game a bit, you have to build a weapon and pillar up to survive the first night. - do we delete skeletons? or do you swim out into the middle of the River and tread water to survive the first few nights?

    Valleys:
To ensure endless River you'd have to straighten into a series of parallel Valleys run east to west with some variation in the valley wall thickness so they dont look like a machine cut ditch. It has to be endless, that means that it has to generate automatically not be built. The book says: It zigzags down one hemisphere, crosses the south pole and up the other hemisphere back to the north polar sea.
Run the valley walls up to Y= 255. We want to make it really hard - almost impossible - to sneak into the next valley. Perhaps have a rounded top to the dividing mountains so if you really wanted you could move along the valley up there near the roof of the world, getting down again will not be easy. You'd need to find a narrow bit and hopefully jump into the water. Or carry a stack of wood with you to build a diving board.
The book says the valleys are about 9 miles wide which is about 14000 blocks I think that is way too big. from a river level of 64 thats only 192 blocks for the valley walls, to give it a sense of scale you'd have to keep the valley down around 500 blocks wide.

    Crafting changes:
No buckets. you have to come to the River for water, no endless pools from 2 buckets, no easy way down from heights, no putting fires out easily. You have thirst, a rare drop is a witches water bottle allowing you to roam further from the River. Or you dig a big trench toward the valley wall, going 1 block deeper every 8.
Life has to revolve around the river to begin with,
Bread requires a furnace. You are going to be hungry and it will take a while to be able to get the resources to travel. On the other hand we dont want a 3d farmville.
Redstone items are fine, it will be hard to get any redstone with stone falling like gravel.

    Mob changes:
The book says: No animals - that would suck. Maybe just remove land based food animals.
leather for armour and books comes from what? Big fish?
skeletons would make that first night almost unlivable, maybe stop them from appearing until later? much like witches, Or you swim out into the River and tread water for the night.

    resources
same concentrations, think about how hard it would be to mine all the way to diamond if all of the ground (apart from the ores) behaved like gravel? Maybe the concentrations will need to be INCREASED.
No lava means no obsidian, no enchanting. wastes half the minecraft source game, is this a problem? maybe bedrock caves under the valley walls with some lava at level 11. With no buckets you know how you'll have to get the water there to make obsidian - a dirty great big trench from the River.

Some things from the books which would be cool to reproduce:
The grail for food, perhaps it could use an edited ender chest, which is placed on the grailstone at sunset for some food for a days worth (rather than 3 times), food spoils unless stored in the grail.
Grailstones do what? Attract lightning? Maybe setting fire to your grail puts some food in it? using a flint and steel is using a very precious resource when you have to dig so much for iron.
The journey along the River, the game would progress by tooling up then setting off and discovering new biomes to get new tools and equipment. Some kind of end story, or it could just be the journey is the point. Maybe a stronghold can do something. without sheep you need to kill a LOT of spiders to get the wool to make a bed to travel with.

Some things from the books which would not work for good gameplay
resurrecting in new places (not spawning at the same point). you'd lose everything (option in hardcore?).
thousands of people, can you imagine being amongst 15000 villagers grunting? Also it needs to be able to be played offline, you want to feel like one of the lead characters in the books making epic journeys and rarely meeting other great people, not be one of thousands of extras battling for resources.

Just a rambling wishlist that will probably end in a very broken game, but i think it would be an interesting twist on the game and make it a pretty tough survival experience, I like the travel,, and only being able to travel in one dimension instead of two forces that.

Yesterday I was clearing out a stronghold, I break all blocks at eye level back to natural stone so I dont get lost or go in circles, anyway I hit some silverfish, which kept releasing more in the floor. I end up backed into a corner and the silverfish destroy the block under me. Under that block was an underground canyon thing so I fell a long way down to about 2.5 hearts. A skeleton started shooting arrows at me so I ran away to go eat some food, straight into a creeper, then another one.
I gave up on the stuff.

It leaves a nice marker for the spawn point. Put a bit of simple armour and a sword in it for just in case you die somewhere before building a bed.
