In my opinion instead of health being showed above the players head why not just color there name to show how low/high there hp is? No need to show how much armor a person has because you can already see if a player is wearing armor.

what if we want custom armour textures that can be seen by other people?

The original idea that ConflagratedCanine had will not solve this either.

But as you can see this system of customizable armor could easily be abused and make it confusing for players to see what they are actually up against.

Players could make there leather armor look like diamond armor and abuse it therefore making that a bad idea in the first place.

So back to my colored name idea, what do you all think?

    :Diamond: = heart

    :Coal: = No heart

    Examples:

    Rook98
:Diamond: :Diamond: :Diamond: :Diamond: :Diamond: :Diamond: :Diamond: :Diamond: :Diamond: :Diamond:

    Rook98
:Diamond: :Diamond: :Diamond: :Diamond: :Diamond: :Diamond: :Diamond: :Diamond: :Coal: :Coal:

    Rook98
:Diamond: :Coal: :Coal: :Coal: :Coal: :Coal: :Coal: :Coal: :Coal: :Coal:

    Rook98
:Coal: :Coal: :Coal: :Coal: :Coal: :Coal: :Coal: :Coal: :Coal: :Coal:

This would allow for players to be notified about others health status while not clustering there screens with hearts and armor.

posted a message on Other ways of obtaining string + Gunpowder
    I disagree...

These resources are meant to be hard to obtain and should stay that way, If you could craft gunpowder there would be TNT everywhere. (In SMP of course)

As for string, the only thing it's useful for is making a bow for killing mobs and if your playing on peaceful then you have no need for a bow, If your not playing on peaceful all you have to do is kill 2 spiders and you're set.

And for the people who want this just so they can get gunpowder and string on peaceful,
    1. Your on peaceful and would not need a bow or TNT to fight enemies.
    2. If you need it that bad just switch the difficulty to something other than peaceful.

I would recommend playing on hard, It makes obtaining gunpowder very rewarding and fun, Creepers basically one hit kill even with some leather armor on.

    Again, not so much better.
Papyrus and trees are both easy to find and can be grown, would you pay for bookcases?

Well as you may not have noticed, in Multiplayer there isn't just one person who harvests trees and reed. Their will be scarcity of certain resources in different areas, And people will most likely be forced to venture out far away just to find some reed and then come all the way back. Therefore starting a bookshelf business would be completley logical. You could sell bookshelves and maybe at a very high price you could sell some reed so someone else could provide bookshelves as well.

The problem isn't that people wouldn't want to trade diamond for gold, it's that the only thing most people are really going to care enough to trade for will be diamonds, sometimes iron, and probably Redstone.

Everything else is WAY too easy to get.

The diamonds were a pretty bad example :tongue.gif:

So I updated the OP to give a better example.

You raise a good point but think of it like this..

In single player time isn't of the essence and you could do things with all the resources you would ever need, you could go spelunking then come back up and farm crops while finding wood for fuel to your Furnace.

But in Multiplayer you may be growing reed to get paper and get bookshelves. You then have a ton of bookshelves and sell them to a Miner who was spelunking for a good profit and then buy other items you need such as food and armor.

    GOLD CURRENCY

Well basically you find gold and you don't have any use for it. Useless, garbage why even mine it?
But what if you could get some gold coins to trade with?

Here's an example: Say you make something time consuming like a bookcase, you could sell it for about 3 gold pieces and then later buy something like an iron sword with the gold you made selling bookcases.

Well think about it IRL, Why would you trade your car for some green paper? (America's currency system)

It's because other people accept it.

So long as your in a city or other sort of civilized area you can use gold currency because people will almost always accept it!

    How it works:
Well I'm not very good at explaining things so I'll let this picture do the talking.
Thanks for the picture Charles! (he's my friend)

Basically one of these gold ingots can be crafted down into gold coins and everything in between.
Making one gold ingot worth 64 gold coins

Now the pros of gold currency shall be listed!
    - Easy way to trade usually in a more civilized area (city/towns)
    - Gives a use for gold.
    - Can be crafted back into a gold ingot
-Toss a coin to a beggar and feel good about yourself.

    And for the cons
-Doesn't keep the creepers out (Sorry but I just couldn't figure out how to implement this in!)

Extra: If Notch ever adds npc villages then maybe you could use gold as currency in their shops.

If you have any questions or comments please post them below. (be positive)

For the Engineer you could drop his goggles down a pixel and make the hat a pixel larger downwards.

The spy's suit is to saturated and bright, his eyes also stand out to much maybe make them slightly dark or less saturated.

Other than that the skins are pretty good. I love the soldier :biggrin.gif:
