I make a point of telling the players on my server about these tools and discussing them openly. Then I point out if they are going to bother using this to cheat, they have creative mode and can just give themselves whatever they want and save the trouble. Then I mention I use this for testing, sorting out redstone problems and figuring out problems other people are having. If people play in a way they get bored of the game and ruin it for themselves, I'm disappointed. If someone plays in a way that ruins the game for someone else, I will be displeased, and I normally express my displeasure with perma-bans.

But we have cool, mature players on our whitelisted server, and I don't have problems. The server is set up so you can really only cheat yourself. I don't have time to babysit watching over someone else's shoulder to make sure they are not X-raying somehow, and I have no interest in playing on servers where stalking new players to catch them "cheating" is a "thing". What a waste. Double that for someone stalking this forum to see who might be using this valuable tool.

I didn't think of that, but yes, it is 1.12 ready since Optifine was released a week or so ago. Until Optifine 1.12 was out, it couldn't be used. :)

He wouldn't, fighting under this effect is forbidden under "gentleman's agreement". Though I would also want a "gamemode" that handles this to also enforce "all efforts to hit with a weapon/ arrow miss" rules.

I'm looking at making a "Dove" team, having all hostile mobs (and polar bears) added to that same team, disallowing Friendly Fire/ PVP and adding regen/ resistance effects.

My goal was to find a "generally useful and simple" approach. I wouldn't expect Mojang to do this just for my friend's dad, but maybe they would if they saw a good reason to add it, such as for debugging or solving a similar problem others may be having on SMP servers.

Ok, that's cool, and that's a relief. I don't expect you to do BDCraft, BDCraft does it better. :) I'm considering making a BDCraft patch for what items can easily be done that goes just over IB, but I've so much on my plate as well as the hours I work, that I couldn't do that right now. It wouldn't be much, just a few items BDCraft already has, as well as "correctly sized" default items, and it would have to be fetched from their site per their license agreement. I'm ok with that. But as your "job" is IB, BDcraft style support wouldn't be part of your "job" ;-)

Quote: The primary goal of ItemBound was that all of the custom content is optional to use.

Good. That's very good. Those are not things people would normally display in item frames, and certainly not *renamed* arbitrarily IB item names unless they are using IB anyway, so that's cool. "Come over to my base, oh you don't see so & such? Are you using ItemBound? Try it out, just to see. You can take it off if you don't like it, but check it out. Cool? You like? Let me show you how to do this too!"

The only hitch in the git-a-long is that when MC 1.13 snapshots are being released, we will go with that, and we lose Optifine for that time. But going with what you have planned and your goals, that shouldn't be a problem. We'll just eagerly await the MC 1.13 Optifine release. :)

Part of the problem too with customizing items: I can't (and won't) force everyone to use ItemBound on my server, as much as I might encourage them to do so. Creeper hide looking like ordinary, renamed hide is fine. An axe renamed "Battle Axe" doesn't cause any issues. A remodeled bed might be a problem... I'm using BDCraft, I really prefer and enjoy it. ItemBound has to be on top. If IB starts fouling up my pick of texture packs for default blocks, it becomes an issue. With the fridge and other potential ideas, if things look weird without the IB resource pack, it may become an issue.

I'm a fan of IB, I'd prefer everyone on our server to consider using it. But if it takes away from people's ability to choose, or it disrupts the default behavior or other texture packs people might enjoy, then I'm not so much a fan of IB anymore. I'll have to try it and see how it works both with and without the IB resource pack to see how disruptive it is to the flow of building without it. Perhaps there really isn't anything for me to be worried about. I have to see.

I did this, mobs still have knockback, for which I need to use armor with knockback resistance. While I was at it, I put in underwater breathing and fire resistance. When testing it, I still took wither damage as I recall. I tested it to make sure. Sometimes "simple solutions" are not so simple in practice. Having mobs ignore the player "as if in creative" would be the best solution for my purpose, while still allowing Survival building and play.

Thank you, but what I'm looking for is a valid reason to persuade Mojang to include the EssentialsX "God Mode" into Vanilla Minecraft. As far as testing textures and such, the "Debug World Mode" is nice, I'd come across that before and I'd forgotten about it. But it doesn't solve the fundamental problem of making the Vanilla game on my server such that my friend's dad can play.

Thank you for your response, and you may be right. My primary concern is for this specific person I know of, and his ability to enjoy the game on my server with his son. I just thought of it as "God mode" ought to be a Vanilla "/gamemode", but calling it that would likely unnecessarily offend someone, and calling it "debug" might indicate more of how it could be more generally useful.

On my smp server, we have an adult who enjoys the game with his aging father. "Dad" doesn't have the reflexes he used to, and he gets confused on what tactics go for which mob.

Other people may have young children and want to allow them to play on a server without having to have everything in peace mode. Peaceful may also irrevocably destroy farms that rely on trapped mobs to work.

Finally, it may be useful for map builders to test, debug in survival without having to worry about mobs while testing.

Spigot plus EssentialsX has "god mode" to allow exactly this, and I am using it for the situation I discussed above. When we switch to vanilla for snapshots, I use health, regen, fire protection and underwater breathing to protect the player, and a diamond chest of "no knockback". Mobs still try to attack, even if they can do no harm. So it isn't perfect, but it works to replace EssentialsX God mode using command blocks and a redstone timer. A "gamemode 4" version of this in vanilla would be appreciated.

We all start at the beginning. The real fun for me began when I started playing Minecraft with my wife, her adult son, my cousin, her adult son, a few friends, one of whom plays with his dad on my server. They all have questions, and it is how life works.

posted a message on Is there still hope that I will find a village?

Village generation presumes sky overhead. In fact, if a village is covered over, the "village tracking system" will not "see" a village there. Doors (which store "village" information) require direct sunlight on one side. I suppose it is technically possible for an unusual setup to spawn with parts of a village underground, but the way generation works should make it nearly impossible.

If you had been there before, the chunks would have already spawned preventing the village from spawning as "new chunks". If that is the case, you would have to delete those chunks to get the village to generate. Another issue is that Amidst shows "likely candidate" positions. Sometimes for some reason chunk generation decides not to put a structure in the candidate position, most USUALLY it does. You can't delete chunks that are not generated, and if chunk generation decides not to put something in a candidate position after all, regenerating it may not help. You will need to look for more villages in areas you are certain you've never traveled.

Make sure your edit of the .NBT tag "stuck", that it is in fact changed correctly. Sometimes I thought I had "saved" some change like that, but somehow I screwed it up and it didn't actually take.

Finally, a philosophical issue. I encourage you to learn about how Minecraft works, things like village generation, .NBT editing, getting "village" resources through other means, and so on. The more you learn, the more options become available to you as you play the game. So don't stop learning and growing. :) That said, I've come to treat Minecraft as a "sandbox game" with emphasis on the ocean wiping out your work and having to start fresh. I've played on various servers, things didn't work out, my work there is gone from my ability to finish it. I've started maps, but as Mojang releases a new version, the plugins for that map no longer work, or the command blocks stopped working, and I wasn't willing to stay with the old version of MC. For the server I run, I've decided to manage the issue more like HermitCraft: On April 1st, 2018, we will start a fresh new map yearly. Until then, we live with and suffer whatever problems are in the current map, but we know we are not stuck with it "forever".

Keep the game fun for yourself, because if you don't, you've no reason to keep playing. But sometimes the "fun" is in taking the past maps as Lessons Learned, and move forward with a fresh new map. Or stick with the challenge of the old. Either way, just keep the game fun for you, and the rest doesn't matter. :)

    Cheers!

I agree with @LoRaM100. I have to work an extra week of hours over the two weeks before and after the 4th of July JUST to have a few extra days including the holiday. I suspect I'm not the only one. Life's funny like that. Hang tough, but one thing you COULD do is learn enough Java so that you could actually do the update, if you really wanted. @julialy did say anyone could fork the code. Even better if you made useful and helpful changes so @julialy could pull those changes into the code for a better X-Ray. :)

I plan to install Forge JUST for this mod, when the mod is ready. Meanwhile, the Village Marker mod does work, and it has a plugin for people running SMP if they wish to allow it. Village Marker only has the village stuff, and no bounding boxes for the structures. But it may be a case of "take what you can get" until the author is available to update. I'm working 54 hr. weeks for this week and the last, so I know *I* won't have time for much until the long weekend. Some of us have jobs, and we have to work an extra week over the next four weeks just to have a few extra days off. Life is funny that way. :(
