Software development is hard. Most modders don't give release dates to the public anymore because of people like you. The fact that Mojang does makes them very generous.
There's no "WINNER" button on this comment, but yeah. Even Mojang tends to be pretty tight-lipped about release dates because "stuff happens."
I would much prefer a delayed release date for 1.12 than to see 1.12.1 ooops, we meant 1.12.3, sorry my-bad 1.12.5. Minor release versions make plugin and mod support a nightmare. People who know better how this ought to work really ought to get involved in creating and shipping a reasonably complex mod and show everyone else how to do it right.

Heh... watch as Pre7 mistakenly introduces "Dinnerbone Style" upside-down swimming or some wacked out thing. We'll see what they do about fonts, but I really wish they'd NOT introduce this into a pre-release. Let's wait until 1.14 on that.

There is a way for *servers* to make F3 coordinates not work. Bedrock servers may choose not to allow coordinates to display.
The compass is fairly cheap, especially once you have an Iron farm going. Maps now allow you to use banners (1.13) to make named markers, and you can have maps be at one of five different zoom levels. In-game maps are the best "I'm not cheating" method.
But if you are up for cheating, JourneyMap is great, as Scorrp10 mentioned. I prefer VoxelMap with LiteLoader. Either of these is much easier and more useful than a notebook full of F3 coordinates.
After playing some years, I tend to go for "in-game maps" as part of the challenge. I make a Nether Nexus, paths and roads, and so on to learn my way around as part of the challenge. The rule on my server is to keep the game fun. It doesn't have to be such a challenge you want to quit and give up, and getting lost ALL the FREAKIN' TIME is really not much fun. But don't use these aids to the point the game is too boring you don't want to play anymore *either*. Find your own balance, enjoy your own groove.

I went ahead and added money through you Patreon account. It isn't much, but it would be a good plan if a bunch of people "didn't give much". One of the reasons I'm so happy with Bedrock's Marketplace is the risk of maladvertising for getting mods and such from "proper" links. I really want to support what you are doing. I just don't want the hell of ad.fly to do it. So... anyone else up for hitting the tip jar on julialy? Right now Patreon looks rather thin.

Note to self: follow flanigomik, up-vote posts.
Yeah, the changes I've seen have been to make command behavior more consistent, easier to have help-text with tab-completion, and in general have better flow. I'm very happy with the data-pack I've created, and we've been using barebones as a drop-in replacement for Spigot's EssentialsX plug-in while we are using Vanilla Snapshots and pre-releases. Other data-packs are doing some incredible things.
If this is someone's idea of "Commands are dead", I think I'd be grateful for a little more dead in my Minecraft.

You really don't want 1.13 released with you swimming upside down, clocks running backwards, your OP bow becoming a Protection V bow, or some silly thing. Please let's get the release right.

I mostly refer to Grian's tips and building guides, though I build in Survival and much of his work simply isn't practical in a Survival context. A text guide with pictures really only goes so far. Seeing the designs in YouTube works best for me. Much also depends on the style you gravitate towards. There may be some good guides archived in this forum, but as time goes on (and with more blocks able to be added) things are going to change quite a bit. We have colored concrete. Watch the explosion when concrete stairs and slabs are added! Text guides in the forum are going to become outdated fairly quickly, while current YouTuber guides will likely stay current. We have "all bark" blocks now. How will that affect people's builds? Will pickles be used for lighting? Piston transparency is now a "feature" and not a "bug". Will more people choose to use pistons for "hidden lighting" in their builds? Again, with 1.13 these changes will throw a creeper in the works for any forum guides that are not being updated with the new release stuff. While with YouTubers, if you are not making fresh, new content, you are not getting *paid*.

My impression is that they are trying to get it to a consistent, logical standard and THEN they will quit dinking around with it, since it is to "standard". And I am so happy with data-packs. When they changed illager_*'s to "Evoker" and so on, it was trivial for me to fire up the text editor and change anything needed. I have a "god mode" data-pack that has all mobs and the one player who needs this in the same "team". I would much rather make these changes in a text file than have to hunt through command block chains.

1.13 has name format changes, model changes, directory name changes, much fun to be had! I hope fans will be patient with Blue to focus on getting this right more than adding stuff. This will likely be a mess to bring to 1.13.

Yup, fixed in Pre5 replaced with an inversion ... You always swim under water and can't stand back up on the bottom. Reported fixed for the next release. ๐

The swimming mechanics could use some of work outside of the current "swimming on land" bug. It is way too easy to take suffocation damage in ravines with overhangs. That said I try to give the lava likely under obsidian a healthy amount of respect.

https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MC-132064 "Swimming state does not end when teleporting / jumping out of water" if you don't already have the bug report#. When possible, please see if the bug is already reported in the bug tracker first, then be sure to mention the link to the bug if you wanted discussion over it.
But yeah, this is a bad one. Boy was I surprised swimming on land, through a Nether Gate, and then swimming in the Nether!

Yup... I'm very much looking forward to LiteLoader 1.13, and Uyjulian's X-ray Mod is at the top of the list of mods to install for it when it's ready.

One of the rumors is that "Villagers?" "Villages?" will be redone in a future release. I can't recall if this was from a Creators Summit or something featured in the feedback website, but both villagES and villagERS could do with some love.

I agree with Ashreon. "Would you like a better X?" "Well SURE! Who the heck doesn't want a beter X?" I'd love a better car. I'll stick with the one I already have that's paid off, thank you.
Scalability is an issue. The server I have for five players, myself included, isn't very expensive at all. If I planned on having 50+ concurrent players or more, I'd have to spend a great deal more on it. I'd also have to have a server that sings, dances, and gives players free belly rubs to get and keep that many players. A huge amount of the cost? Advertising. I have to fork over the phat lewt not for anything to do with the server itself, but to get the server name out there so people would actually try it.
Is the survey geared to find those 50+ concurrent player servers and people who play on them? Or just "anything goes"? The survey has a problem with not only with leading questions but in defining the target audience.

Quote: To all resource pack makers: in 1.13 pre-3 the folders for block and item textures are renamed to "block" and "item". And model names in blockstates now require "block/". Enjoy rewriting all you models!
We'll need updates for our updates. :-p
