*** The Total Conversion That is Incompatible With Everything!!! ***
[*** WHAT IS BETTER THAN WOLVES? ***]
Better Than Wolves is a "total conversion". This differs from most mods that you are probably used to in that it changes many of the rules of play to provide a richer experience, rather than just adding in new stuff. What makes it special however, is that it always attempts to do so in a way that retains the original spirit of the game, perhaps even more so than the newer official releases.
It focuses both on challenging survival play, and player creativity in terms of never providing "magic block" solutions to in game problems. Instead, it provides basic tools and leaves it to the player to figure out how to use them to get the job done.
In short, Better Than Wolves is a vision of what Mincraft could have been, designed by a very serious player, for other like minded individuals.
NOTE: With the closing and archiving of the Minecraft forums, I've trimmed down this first post to not contain any information that may change with time (such as latest version). If you'd like to stay up to date with the mod, I'd suggest checking out the BTW forums linked below.

** Update 01-18-12 ** I am no longer updating Survival Island. There are however, a bunch of good mapmakers who are continuing the Survival Island Genre on their own so give them a try!
Thanks and Happy Mining!! -

You'll have to edit them in. Here's how:
The greyscaled icon version of the leather armor goes where the leather armor goes in the items.png, and the leather armor icons with color go beneath the column of wooden tools. This pretty much acts as an overlay in the game. The greyscaled stuff will be dyed and the overlay will not be. You have to fiddle around with it a bit, but make sure they occupy the same space in the 32x32 square, for example if the greyscaled icon hat sits right dab in the middle with 4 pixels on each side, you need to do the same with the leather colored hat beneath the wooden hoe. If they don't, it'll look funny in the game, since they won't match up.
You can easily ensure that they do match by creating a new layer (in an editing program like Paint.net) that goes underneath the items and then pasting on a grid of 32x32 squares on the new layer to align the icons properly. Generally I like to use the Painterly Pack grid since the colors are light enough to see detail. Here it is:
For the actual armor textures: all four versions go in the armor folder. You'll have rename them. The greyscaled body/hat should be called cloth_1.png and the colored counterpart should be called cloth_1_b.png. This nomenclature applies to the other two parts. Greyscaled pants should be named cloth_2.png and the colored leather pants should be called cloth_2_b.png
I hope I helped, but if I wasn't clear enough, feel free to shoot me a PM so I can explain more explicitly without cluttering up the thread.
Woo, that took me like 10 minutes to type lol XD -

hebelsu posted a message on Kracken Vs ShipI recently started playing on The Voxel Box, a creative Minecraft server. They have high standards over there, and guests are required to build in the designated guest area before they are given full membership on the server.Posted in: Screenshots
I was pleased with the way my "whitelist build" turned out so I thought I would share it. The other builds in the background are not mine, but belong to other guests who inhabit the guest zone, trying to prove they are worthy of full membership.
Here is the starboard side from a distance.
A closer look at the starboard side. The ship is locked in battle with an 8 tentacle sea monster, or kracken. One of the cannons has recently scored a direct hit on a tentacle, cutting it off completely and the severed tentacled has splashed down.
From the front, I made my sails cross wind sails because I much prefer the look of those over tail wind sails.
On the port side, one of the tentacles has just grabbed the main mast, and another has broken off the 3rd mast.
Port side cannon has just scored a hit! Chunks of flesh, blood spatter, and exposed bone can be seen as the cannon ball continues through the air.
A better view of the carnage.
View from the stern. Can better see the mast that is being ripped down.
View from above.
There are 2 gun batteries, one on deck and one below deck. A crane transports supplies to and from the deck. Here you can see the still smoking cannon that blew away one of the tentacles. A different tentacle has punctured a hole in hull on the starboard side and ir wreaking havoc within the below deck gun battery. The menacing mouth of the beast is visible below the surface.
The gun battery below deck.
Captain's quarters, crew quarters and galley.
Last but not least, a better view of the mouth of the beast.
This build was very fun to create, I hope you all enjoyed it. The texture pack used is the Palceon texture pack, a custom texture pack used on The Voxel Box.

Mcholypotato posted a message on Nature's Grasp (Airship)My latest build; Nature's Grasp is an airship owned by the agricultural farmers in the fields of Adacia to water crops and spray pesticides. The ship is powered by two large butterflies and houses many water tanks with piston operated levers to control the flow of water out of the two large exhaust looking pipes.Posted in: Screenshots

Privateye posted a message on Small Western TownI like to make things with a certain theme in mind, and a lot of the themes that first come to mind are widely over used. I haven't seen too many towns with the western theme in mind, that actually keeps to the real feeling of a dusty old western town. I think it's something I'm pretty much done with. Most of the buildings are furnished, some I'm still working on ideas for. I know it's hard to see too much detail with all of the wood, but I tried to break up the monotony ever now and then with some grey wool and brick for the post office. Texture Pack is JohnSmith.Posted in: Screenshots
Things in the town are:
Small housing area (outhouse out behind)
Water Tower
Watering Hole
Barn/Mini Farm
Train station
Post Office
Bakery
Saloon
Jail
Sherriff's Office
School House
Church
Bank
General Store
Blacksmith
And a Bath House.
There's just a few pics to give you an idea.
