Yeah, I tried that. Normally, if I uninstall java, when I open the launcher it'll say something like, "you need java, would you like to install it now? Y/N" but now it doesn't even say that.

So then reinstall it from Java.com and redownload the launcher, because if the launcher still gives problems, either something's wrong with it or this caused some other huge problem with your computer. Have you had any other problems?

I don't know how to find out the Java you have on a Mac, but it should say something like 7u60, or Java 7 Update 60 (which is the latest version).

Have you tried downloading the launcher again? Perhaps even backup your saves and delete/recreate the entire minecraft folder?

posted a message on What mods would make minecraft seem new again?
I wasn't saying anything about Mojang and the EULA. I meant that the Technic/Tekkit devs put mods in without permission or support from the modders. Of course Mojang has the right to implement any mod; they just chose not to most of the time. Unfortunately, even though no permission makes it easy to get a ton of mods in, packs like that are often more unstable.

It's hard to say any one mod is better than any other, so you can try modpacks like one of the Feed the Beast packs, or even the CrackPack (the Mindcrackers' new modpack). I'd avoid packs like Technic/Tekkit that use mods without permission or support from the original modders, both on principle and because lack of support makes them tend to be less stable.

The real problem with this is that server owners are essentially branding their selling of in-game features as "donating," (And that's exactly what people use them for; otherwise there would never be perks or other rewards, but people would donate anyway.) when donating means that you're giving something to someone else (money or otherwise) and getting nothing in return.

I am all for donations and even minor perks for them as long as it is not perk selling rebranded as donating.

Also, it's "donor." There's no such word as "donator."

posted a message on Why is the Nether Safer Than the Overworld?
Let's not forget about the random lava pockets underground. Three times I died to them while building a Nether Hub on my favorite server. I got out and far away from the lava in time, but I burned to death. Fortunately, I was always able to recover my stuff.

And if the Nether is really so easy, then why all the reluctance to go there in the Mindcrack UHCs? :P

posted a message on What's to come in Minecraft 2.0?!
For those doubting, the 1.7.10 pre-release was just released yesterday. Yes, it's possible.

    Quote from Over9000Guy

That's stupid! Minecraft basically IS a totally different game from what it was in beta!

And that's why Beta was Beta. Most of Alpha was also much different than Beta, if only for the lack of biomes for most of its length. (Similarly, "new" Minecraft existed for a short time at the end of Beta's length.) And I'm sure if Beta went on for long enough, there would have been a proper Beta 1.9, and then Beta 1.10. It's just a coincidence that Beta ended with 1.9 (the pre-releases, at least) and then went straight to the release.

posted a message on Help Us Test the New, Improved Minecraft Forum!
I'm excited for the new features, but as far as the look goes, I don't think I'm alone in not liking it. It loses a lot of the "Minecrafty" feel to it, and the toolbar at the top looks like something out of the NES, but with smooth edges. It doesn't need to look exactly like the current version, but just toning down the colors and making minor adjustments to make it look more similar to this version would go a long way, like making the background the same light blue as the current version, and also making the forum icons into chests again would be nice.

EDIT: What I'd also really like to see is updating the emoticons and the default Steve avatar to use the correct, most recent textures. It's silly, and probably confuses some new people, to see the primary forums for the game use textures that weren't in the game for years. :P

Edit: well i am new to mc forums and i did not expect people to set fire on the post's *ss just because you shared your idea....and also i am using mobile internet so its really a pain in typing too much...

People aren't opposing this because you shared you're idea; they're opposing it because they don't think that this would be a good addition to the game, and it's vague and a wishlist, both of which are against the forum rules in a suggestion. You can't possibly make a suggestion to anything and expect no negative feedback.

Okay, here's why it's not working. You're not an op, so you can't use commands. And since the snapshots, you can't just write your name in ops.txt anymore, because it's ops.json and uses UUIDs now. You need to use the console and type the /op jvkruler (or whatever your IGN is) command to be able to use commands from in the game, and while there, you might as well do /gamemode 1 jvkruler at the same time.

posted a message on Slime Block Graphic Bug
This is probably a by-product of the torch being unable to be placed on the piston, so it snaps to the slime block. This powers the piston, which pushes the cobble and the slime block, and removes the torch from the piston, depowering it. All this happening at once probably just makes it glitch out.

The texture issue may be caused by an invalid data value; those now show the missing texture rather than their ID's normal texture.

I have a rank suggestion: Make 0 posts be "Only Posts in Forum Games." Since few people, if any, actually do that, and it's otherwise impossible (?) to get to someone's profile without them having posted anywhere, it'd be just an Easter egg.
