I know this has been addressed and that the majority opted for keeping it as is
However, i will be giving you my idea for a new way of doing things.
OR adding it in as a config option.
My idea so far is moving the minigame away or restricting it to the endgame items of the mod. perhaps a longer minigame to unlock some of the bad stuff?
And keeping the rest of it as a scanning option, meaning scanning of certain items opens certain research, that way we don't have to do 2 grinds for this game. one being scanning every thing in this world and beyond and the other being research.
This will still takes time and so forth, I'm not saying the scanning has to be restricted to one item to unlock another item, it could be a mix of items, or a certain amount of the same item? number of aspects or something similar could also be added to mix it up. heck even a crucible that makes a vile concoction that gives me a 50/50 chance of getting bad effects or unlocking research would be nice.
I notice this is a "problem" because we have 5 addons to Thaumcraft, which means that it takes forever to unlock it all. last time i did this it took me 16+ hours of constant research. (yes I like to just get it over with, which i also see as bad, as I actually need motivation to do it for the ..th time)
I realize that addons should not be the one thing that balances Thaumcraft research, I'm just saying, you have a great mod and hence people make a lot of addons, which is something to consider during the research it unlock it all, or most of it.
