posted a message on Need feedback for VTC!
Alright, here goes. These are jut my general opinions, written out shortly as I notice them. They undoubtedly don't reflect everyone's opinions on the pack.

    What works well:
    • Some logs and planks (specifically Oak log/plank and Birch log)
    • All of the leaves
    • The text and GUI in general
    • The grass top texture (and the random CTM for it)
    • Sand and Sandstone (specifically 24:0, not the bricks)
    • Biome coloring
    • Mycelium
    • Bedrock (it has a neat animation, pretty cool and unique)
    • Stone bricks (they're all really nice in my opinion, especially the CTM for the moss stone bricks)
    • Hardened clay
    • Bed (yay quilt!)
    • Chests, Torches, other wood-based items)

    What doesn't work so well:
    • The colors of the pack in general: in some cases, I like it (see list above); in most cases, it kind of just seems willy nilly, and everything is super-duper-DUPER high contrast, almost too much for my personal tastes
    • The patterning on many blocks, such as dirt and stone: I see the top grass, and how subtle and pretty and soft it is, and I wish the stone and dirt matched that style; but instead they're these hard obvious patterns. Sad face. Maybe use more CTM to randomize and smooth things out.
    • The ferns: Again with the high contrast thing.
    • Theme: Or rather, the seeming lack there-of. I mostly just see high-contrast, old-school stuff, but without a general guiding theme that's apparent. Even packs like Summerfields, which you can't classify as "Medieval" or "RPG", have a theme of "summer" or "warm" or "rustic" or "soft". Try to unify everything so it fits some sort of very apparent theme for the user.

These are my general impressions when I boot up this pack. Lots of things I really like about it, and a few improvements I think could really help this get where you want it to be. I hope this helps!

Would it be possible to get this to work with 1.7.2? If possible how?

Not yet possible because MC Coder Pack hasn't updated to 1.7.2 yet.

I have a PC, Windows 8, Intel i7 processor, 4gb ram, run Minecraft and most other shaders perfectly. Then when I try to use SEUS, this happens:

It doesn't matter what version of SEUS v10 I use (standard, ultra, no blur, whatever), this always happens to me. What's the problem?

posted a message on Where can i get a nice palette, or how do i create one?
When I create my textures, I don't use a specific palette, per se. Instead, I personally work with hues and values. So I might say that all of my textures might have a very slight blue tinge to them (not enough to be recognizable on sight, but enough that the textures will fit), so green will appear to be a bit more lush, and dirt will appear just slightly purple instead of fully brown. Or I might say that all of my textures will only use colors that are at 70% saturation. It's basically working with uniformity.

Another thing I do is to make sure that all like-minded textures use the same colors. My grass top matches with grass sides, matches with tall grass, matches with leaves. Each of these textures might have a slight touch of a different color, or slightly different saturation levels, but they'll all use the same base colors, so they'll all seem to fit in.

What you might be doing wrong is that you're thinking "grass is green, so I'll find greens in the swatches in Photoshop. Dirt is brown, so I'll find some browns."

Instead of that, try to connect colors. So find a muted blue-ish green, and start there as a base color for grass. Then add some red to it to make it a brown-ish color, and use that for dirt. And that's the jist of creating a unified palette for packs.

Now if you want to start off with an already-created palette, there a few good ones out there. Check out these threads:

Well technically speaking it's not either of those. :P

I hope it doesnt belong there, I have a bunch of texture pack tutorials planned and I dont want them buried in that mess :/

It doesn't belong in mapping and modding tutorials. This is "Resource Pack Discussion", so it's for all things discussed specifically for resource packs that aren't *actual* resource packs. Id est, this fits and so do any other tutorials specifically geared towards resource pack creation.

I've never seen a 2-wide acacia. I think you are talking about the roofed forest tree (now renamed to "dark oak"), which is usually 2 wide.

Oh right. It was probably that. Not totally up to date on 1.7 stuffs.

    Do you pronounce the j?

I'm pretty sure it's like "y" in "yarrr", so I think it would be pronounced "HyehrtSten".

    Feedback on stuffs?

I really like the item textures. Your acacia texture is nice too; the only problem with it that I can see is that it doesn't really have a seamless side to it (because acacia trees unlike spruce, birch, and oak, commonly come in two-thick sizes). Food for thought.

I've just made some new texture for the crafting table, looking for something recognizable and new at the same time. What do you think of those?

It's meant to look like a pileup of plank, like this

At first, I didn't like those black lines. Then I kind of grew to liking it, because it gives the thing depth and seems realistic. I'd perhaps like to see the crafting bench in a few varied screenshots though; not so sure the dark contrast seems to fit quite so well with the rest of your pack at the moment.

It may be the way the screenshot is taken, but in the OP, I find you cobble excellent.
And your last sreenshots is nice! I think it's better now for stone and dirt :) the colors are also very good, not too "happy", not too saturated, just so good.

Well thank you. I'm going to be getting on a plane for most of today, but I'll be back later tonight, hopefully with a few more textures.
