posted a message on If YOU could force Notch to add a new mob what would it be
This game is sorely lacking in mobs. Mining deep underground just isn't a challenge at all, particularly when people can just mine all the way to the bottom right from the start without any fear of running into nasties that could cause problems.

My suggestion: deep world golems of varying sizes made from different materials (dirt, stone, obsidian, lava, etc) with different toughness levels/resistance to certain weapons, and different attack properties. The deeper one travels, the more likely that dangerous golem types would show up requiring different strategies to take out.

This way Notch can keep his "fantasy" theme and be lazy by swapping the textures on the same basic model, if required.

Also, the Nether is a complete joke in terms of enemies, environmental hazards, and ores. The place needs a complete overhaul.

I just joined the server...the place resembles a warzone. Craters everywhere, building frames scattered all over the place.

Not a very habitable place but hey...a challenge is always fun.

posted a message on Mojang missing the boat? A rant from a fan.
Honestly, Jeb would have to be put back on the project for any decent content updates. Removing Jeb was essentially Notch's way of saying: "Minecraft development isn't much of a priority anymore."

That's fine, but its also a bit sad given the unprecedented potential of the game.

Dude,I read that whole thing and thought,"Wow,someone's got their panties in a wad over updates that not only I but many other people enjoy."Gosh, get some cereal and tea and calm the fudgekitties down!Just because you don't enjoy the updates that Notch adds for ALL of us to enjoy, doesn't mean you should go around spewing out random ideas of Willy Wonka's adventures.I mean,FOR REAL?A chocolate river!?That makes no sense, and the down syndrome and infant things and such you say he should add,I don't understand how this makes the game MORE fun. Also,if you do not enjoy the work Notch does to try and make US happy, you can just make your own mod and make minecraft the way that you would enjoy it.Though,it makes me a bit aggrivated to hear you say that you want Notch to make minecraft the way that YOU want it.Well let me just put this out here...YOU don't decide what NOTCH does for US in minecraft! Are you Notch? No,not from what I've heard. Are you his idea-giver?No,he comes up with his OWN ideas. So,why are you saying you want him to make it how you want it?We all give him ideas, and you will not dominate us and say,"Make it this, make it that.NO!Like this!NO!Like that!"I'm sorry and I'm not trying to be rude, but I'm just slightly aggrivated and if you (and other people) don't like me putting my ideas out here, you may delete this post if you want to.

    OP is fail.
Why should the game be what HE wants, not what other people want?
And those spiders would make the game un-playable.

...and here we have more people that are unable to read and grasp the concept of satire.

At first this trend was mildly amusing, but now its getting rather sad.

The reading comprehension level of some of the posters replying in this thread is laughable. Stay in school, folks.

Kudos OP. The post made me crack a smile.

Generally I listen to older game soundtracks.

Especially good ole' Baldurs Gate music:

Also, the 'Magic City' theme from simcity on occasion. Good times.

If your main concern is gaming, then go for a desktop. Laptops aren't for gaming!

This simply isn't true. I'm a college student and use my asus g53j for both gaming and schoolwork. On the gaming end, it handles every single game I throw at it with great performance.

As to the OP, don't bother with alienware. You can get the same (or better) hardware by shopping around on newegg. Asus has some really great laptops that are considerably cheaper and offer comparable power.

posted a message on Booster & detector rails, needs improvement?
If powered rails gave the same boost to empty carts as when occupied by a player, they would be a bit more useful.

Also, it would very good if the detector track had a right-click toggle (similar to repeaters) that allowed it to activate based on whether a cart was empty or occupied.

I like both types, but they could do with some improvements.

posted a message on How to make squid spawn
Well, this is by no means an elegant solution, but I built this under a storehouse as a small sideproject and it seems to work just fine.

After working on several projects away from the storehouse and then returning, there are usually about 7-10 waiting.Sometimes it takes awhile, but they keep respawning and getting trapped. I have to do a sweep every now and then to clear them out, otherwise they just start piling up like tribbles from star trek. :Notch:

posted a message on Why Hate 1.5?
    I'm actually enjoying 1.5.

For awhile I thought the weather effects simply didn't work, but lo and behold after a few days, voila - a thunder and lightning storm with rain on one of my old worlds. It was quite nice (heck, I was even a bit bummed when it stopped raining). Now if only the water actually filled in trenches and drained - that would be spectacular.

Also, the game runs much smoother now with the advanced open GL option. Went from around 90-130 FPS to around 200 or so.

Aside from several bugs, the only real disappointment I have is that the piston mod wasn't included.

posted a message on What do you like in a Texture Pack?
    Quote from copperdomebodha »

64 pixel packs are rare. They've already gone beyond the confines of those that refuse to accept anything other than 16 px packs, and yet they have stopped short of the high definition packs. They seem caught neither here nor there. But the in-game resolution is getting below an inch now. 5/8 inch per color block. These can carry off almost any texture believably at more than three meters viewing distance. Up close, it's still chunky and un-identifiable, but at a few paces, quite capable.

The interior screenshot I took above uses 64x64 textures (the GUI and wood floor are from Misa's 64x64 pack and are essentially placeholders until I finish it up - the cobble/flagstone brick/windows/obsidian etc are essentially done), and it doesn't really look "chunky and un-identifiable" up close. I had to down-size that image from 1920x1200 and reduce the jpeg quality, so it's a bit fuzzy, but in-game the textures are sharp and easily recognizable. Still, I'm considering doing a revamp entirely in 128x128, because 64x64 is very limited given the look I want to accomplish. A larger resolution means a greater canvas, and more potential.

I agree with your view on the lower texture packs - especially the 16x16. I stuck with the stock minecraft graphics for ages before trying out an HD pack and seeing the potential. The 32x32 packs, specifically Glimmer's steampunk pack, is nicely done, but I can't help but feel it would look so much better at a higher resolution. Many seem to be bashing the HD texture packs for whatever reason, but it entirely depends on how the creator executes the art style.

Hanns-G HD 28' widescreen monitor from newegg. Excellent quality and very good price for a big monitor. Minecraft @ 1920x1200 resolution is quite nice.

For mice, you can't go wrong with a logitech G500.

" Personally, i've wanted to see a "Fancy Pack" where everything is better looking.

Cobble looks like grey bricks, planks look like fresh laminent, and windows are fancy, with gold borders. "

    I'll try this, I think.

Initially I liked the simpler standard 'X' and '+' window designs, but now the more elaborate windows hold my interest. You can't go wrong with good ole' fashion wrought iron designs - well, if you like the look, that is. If only there were a way to do stained glass :iapprove:

A quick shot of small side windows in one of my buildings:
