That would be nice. Considering that a surface adventurer (like me :biggrin.gif: ) finds it a pain to get lava for obsidian unless I find a surface lava pool.

    Scam much?

This. I can't afford it ATM.

Really this should be at most $5, or 99 cents to compete with its direct iOS competitor, Eden: World Builder.

Okay, somebody explain this to me in plain English. It looks like Mods have been completely removed from Minecraft. You can't upload mods from the main menu screen anymore (although it was still available in Beta 1.9.5). This option was deliberately removed. Why?

The cynic in me says Notch is cutting out the mod community because he intends to sell future Minecraft updates for a premium, and it's damned hard to compete with "free." That's pretty cynical for a video game that's still grossly incomplete as it heads to retail.

I'm busy compiling notes and sketches for a Minecraft mod project, and I'm going to be very pissed off if I'm getting cut off at the knees because Notch wants to make a quick buck scamming his fans. But this is what today's video game industry is all about. I will be more than happy to be wrong on this, but Notch owes us an explanation.

Take your notes and find a Minecraft clone to mod?

I can see that. I don't think that's what the author was going for though. Do you agree with that?

    *For some a creepy universe.

It was a dream endings always make me feel bad. The ones I've experienced were particularly bad. As in telling me to go live real life and whatnot. I'm not here to go have real life when I'm playing a game. I'm here to play a game and get absorbed into the game world/my goal/my own story, in the case of Minecraft.

It should spawn another dragon. And if there was a way to pick it up, to spawn one in the regular MC world.

First off, ANYBODY can host a server. The best servers wouldn't be that great without players, so there will always be servers that don't get all the latest DLC since they want to remain accessible to the larger community. Second, this is only IF they decide to actually bring out any paid DLC. So far there hasn't really been anything that's been said which indicates Mojang even plans to release any paid DLC. All they've done is changed the wording on their TOS to protect them from potential future legal trouble and made a comment using hypothetical content delivery methods to illustrate why they weren't going up on Steam. All of this panic and frustration is entirely premature.

Except on the larger servers, the users that did pay for the extra content wouldn't play of those servers simply because they can't use their new content. There might be a Bukkit plugin that allows the content to be hosted on a different map that is only accessible to users who purchased the new content. Best situation serverwise would be to allow anyone to use the new content on the server, but the DLC wouldn't appear in single player. Of course then people that pretty much exclisively play multiplayer won't have to pay a dime.

Also, I was saying what was going to happen if servers were locked to some users based on DLC.

TO me, The End right now seems like a total waste of development resources that could have been far better served on other various game aspects. The "survival" mode more feels like creative where you need to gather your own stuff. The netehr and the actual world could have heavily benefitted from some fine tuning to make the experience much more immersive. SOme type offlying creature, maybe some more wild animals such as bears. Not every NPC needed to have a unique aspect. Biome diversity was a good choice for an update and the nether updates and the enchanting all top work. Its just this ENderworld that seems like a total waste. It pales in comparison to the other updates that are being done.

That is why I absolutely hated Mo' Creatures. Because most of the regular mobs in that (lions, bears, etc.) are essentially zombies with a different texture and mesh that have no real unique way to fight them. It got old incredibly fast.

Don't ask me! :biggrin.gif: I have no clue of what the ending is about. But if it is like you're saying then it makes sense. Perhaps it's based on the achievements, and maybe in the items harvested, crafted, areas types explored, etc, that would make perfect sense. But you confuse me with that question mark.

I know what the ending is about. I was suggesting an ending that might fit a bit better with Minecraft.

I don't foresee that ever happening. If they actually do release any of the potential expansion packs (which I kind of doubt they'll go down that road judging from what they've said about DLC), they'll update the core game and the server you're running so anyone who logs into your server would need to have the same expansion packs. Kind of like the system they use now where you can't log into a server unless you have the same version of the minecraft client.

So basically then MC becomes pay-to-multiplay. Because we all know full well that nearly every server (especially the actually good ones) are going to have all the latest content at most a few days after its release. It's basically just giving the finger to the Beta players who can't afford/don't want some new update.

    No.

There's nothing complicated or difficult to understand about the ending. It's pretty simple and straightforward. It's not some fantastic piece of writing filled with hidden meanings. It's just a bit of prose with a feel-good message, postmodernist ideas about reality, which is written as two people talking about the player. There's no reason at all to think that people who don't like it don't understand it. What is clear is that the people who think that don't understand why people don't like it.

I thought it was a feel bad ending, actually.

    Quote from Charlie Brown
How is any ending - or maybe I should be adressing the existing one specificaly here - can fit consistently with the player's experiences? Without spoiling it (the least possible, at least), can someone give me an insight of how the ending achieves this?

A custom generated ending that is created based on what major things the player has accomplished, such as finding Diamond for the first time, or getting to the Nether?

Its... terrible, actually. 'It was all a dream' endings are pretty much just a cheap cop-out when you couldn't think of a proper plotline. What would have been better would be (readable) notes and books scattered throughout the land. Possibly in ancient ruins or something, that at least gave the game a sort of goal. Maybe that the dragon was an ancient beast that could destroy the world, and it was sealed away in another dimension, but its on the verge of escaping due to a group of bad guys. Along the way you fight various bosses, all with different powers and such, and when you defeat each you get a clue, or a cutscene, or something that eventually leads to you having to locate the stronghold and enter the end to kill the dragon. So you kill it and save the world?

Yeah, I just thought of a plotline in one, large run on sentence. Maybe the bosses would be found in various locations? And they would be one time spawns, that only spawn around a specific coord on world generation? And there would be like five different places it could spawn on world generation?

    Quote from Drachasor
Basically, Notch said the game would be X, Y, and Z, and said he was going to spend the money he was getting developing the game. He's not really doing that. People have a right to be upset with him over it. Granted, it is a risk you take in investing in an Alpha or Beta project, but that doesn't mean people aren't entitled to their feelings on the matter.

When you have millions upon millions of dollars I doubt he is going to spend all of that on developing a single game. Besides, it is going to be updated after the full release.
