posted a message on Snapshot 12w04a is Out!
This is so awesome! My friends and I are playing on a snapshot server in a jungle and it only gets more interesting when something new like this comes out.

I tested the ocelot's capabilities in Singleplayer and found they to be the perfect house pets. I did find they were.. lacking something? I couldn't put my finger on it

The babies are ADORABLE and probably cuter than a real kitten.

So I can't wait for everyone to get on the server so we can tame some ocelots.

Just to be sure, you don't have to start a new world to get ocelots to spawn correct? This is so awesome! My friends and I are playing on a snapshot server in a jungle and it only gets more interesting when something new like this comes out.

posted a message on Should I continue running a server on my computer (XPS 8gb RAM)
So I've just figured out how to host a Minecraft Server on my computer. Now that it's set up, I just give it a few gigs of my 8gb RAM capacity and turn it on.

On the same computer I play minecraft while the server is running. A few of my friends and I play. I heard this wasn't recommended Now so far, there has only been four people on at once but in these sessions I have experienced little to no lag. Maybe one of us gets it kind of bad for a bit but it always resolves itself quickly.

Can my server handle more players and if not, what are solutions I can look to that don't involve a paid server hoster?

Additionally I was looking to shift the server processes to a extra computer I have lying around, any tutorials on how to do this?

    Quote from DrakeL80

A lot of people want to make a multiplayer server for their friends to play on. But it is hard to do and many people can't do it because of computer restrictions. I think it would be awesome if Minecraft had it's own servers that people could play on. For example: Instead of finding out IP addresses and other stuff like that, You would just have to click on multiplayer on the main menu, and choose from the different servers that Mojang would put on there. Ex: Surival, Creative, etc. Furthermore, If someone wanted to have their own server, they could purchase one. For like $5 USD.
    Thank you.
    God bless.

Perhaps this is a good idea but the process of doing this would be... extreme? Mohjang is game developing company. Thousands of servers, support for all the problems... IMO It's too huge.

Further more I know that a lot of younger children don't have as much control of their computers as they'd like to have. If you need to do more on your computer, you should talk to you parents and explain the situation. Because the loops people jump through to get more control of their computer or finding ways that administration isn't required is ridiculous.

I recently got a minecraft server running on my machine. It took ALL DAY and a lot of frustration. The fact and the matter is that this process ISN'T simple. It never has been but it ought to be because so many people are trying to do this. Some internet geniuses will convince you it's an easy process and that you're just and that you're an idiot but the way this system is set up, it's different for every person.

I guess what you should pull away from this is that... I don't think Mohjang or anyone will be doing something like what you've described for a long time and so until then we should focus on simplifying the current process.

Addition: As far as paid servers they are reliable, powerful but they cost money. If you computer is like mine (8gb of ram so I can put a few gigs into the server) than it might make sense to run the server on your machine so that mods and other such things can be done at will.

How? See, that is my point. I had no idea you could do that. And most new people dont. I have had minecraft since its alpha stages and I have always wanted to have my own private server that me and friends could enjoy. But I never understood it. That is why I think Mojang should make some for everyone and let people buy their own.
But seriously, how do u rent a server?

Now this is where I'd draw a line between not-explained and not informed
So if you had perhaps looked up "How do I get a minecraft server" and looked for more than 1 second you might've found that there are hosters. Of course there are a handful of people who possibly had NO idea and so a suggestion could be that on Minecraft.net there was a clearer explanation of Minecraft capabilities.

Just a few thoughts on the topic

This is awesome. My friends and I have been working on this Jungle biome, we've made a very impressive fort but our jungle is pretty small. The seed is indianajones but I'll definitely see if this is a better replacement! Nice find

After some stupid tinkering it's up. 12w03A snapshot, go nuts. I'm going to take a nap.

I can probably add planes pretty soon if that's what people want, i'll need some feedback though because that means that everyone will have to go install Planes client

Forgot to mention >>> 12w03A!!!!!! It's on the snapshot

    This server is complete anarchy

Not for the weak minded (Or weak at all)

Everyone has creative mode on and it's a flat world so people are encouraged to GO NUTS

I'm always looking for suggestions on additions so just let me know.

Hello and good morning! (where I am) I just finished getting a server on my machine. What a crazy journey that was huh? SO my question is that, while I was getting ready for bed I wanted to invite forum users to the server and see what they made in the morning.

My brother convinced me that because the server used an open port, it's not safe.

What's the deal with servers hosted on MY machine, open ports and safety?

posted a message on Regarding Server Hosters and Mod Installment
So a little back story, my friends and I have always wanted a server where we can install all the mods like Planes, TeamMod, Mo' Creatures and more. So awhile ago we got a Brohoster server and quickly through many tests and google searching (and a lot of arguing) we found that Brohoster couldn't support such mods, it's a Virtual Private Server and can only support Bukkit. We understood that it was realible but we never really tried to get a plugin, it was confusing and we were sort of disappointed so that's that.

Now, we got a MeteorVPS server after Brohsoter screwed us over. Now we're okay with that but our subscription with them just ended and we want to know which hosters can support mods like Planes.

Now the question part. Do you have any hoster ideas? Do we have to run the server off of one of our comptuers to use mods? And a plethora of other questions but i'll leave you with the two for now. Feel free to provide whatever details or suggestions, and thanks again for reading!
