posted a message on Comments/Questions, looking for some sort of resolution.

So, unfortunately Microsoft, or Mojang, or whoever, decided to take away the Minecraft launcher that did work, and has now replaced that once, never broken product with a new software update, that is broken. Yes I'm talking about the dreaded error 5 that everyone is getting.

We are a month, maybe two months, into this problem, and it has yet to be fixed. There is the temporary fix, and that fix doesn't last forever. Does anyone from Mojang read these forums?

Well, in the event that they do, which most companies don't, this next bit is to anyone associated with Mojang, or anyone at Mojang:

Please reinstate the old Minecraft launcher, and remove the new launcher. It is not working and it is fundamentally flawed and broken. It has caused many, many people to not be able to even play the game, that they paid their hard earned money on. I for one, did not pay for a broken game. I purchased Minecraft back in the Beta days, and everything worked. But this new launcher of yours is simply not working. And I refuse to sit here for an entire year, while you try to figure out why your patch ain't working. The best thing that you, Mojang, can be doing as a company right now, remove the new launcher, replace the old launcher, and figure out first how to make your new launcher work, if that's really how you want to go with your software, and then re-release the launcher patch.

Now, for anyone having an issue with the error 5 AFTER they did the temporary fix, I have my own fix for if error 5 happens again. In my tmp folder I have Minecraft.exe. I believe this file is the renamed file. If you created a Minecraft folder, then dropped a copy of Minecraft.exe into the Minecraft folder, if you get error 5 again, just copy and replace the file you renamed to Minecraft.exe from the tmp folder.

I had error 5 come up on me several days ago, it went to Updating Launcher, error 5, happened two times in a row, I copied and replaced the file I just mentioned, and the Updating Launcher window box title changed to Unpacking Launcher, then it worked. So be sure you saved the original file that you have to rename, and when error 5 happens again, just copy the renamed file over into the Minecraft folder that you made, for fixing the error 5.

Nevermind, I had done an update to my video card prior to running the launcher, and that update required a restart of the system, which at the time, I hadn't done. After the restart for the video card update, the game now runs perfectly. There's a line in that crash report that was calling for OpenGL, and I think the video card update, without restarting the system, may have been the problem, though I do not know.

I downloaded the new launcher last nite, and was able to play the 1.6 snapshot. Today after the official 1.6 update was released, a new tab opens in the launcher window saying, Crash Report, and will not run Minecraft anymore.

Well, last nite I downloaded the new launcher, and was able to run 1.6 snapshot, before the official 1.6 update came out today. Now for some reason, the new launcher won't even load Minecraft. It bring up a new tab that says Crash Report. So I got rid of the launcher, got it again from the Minecraft.net website, and still, the new launcher won't run Minecraft. Everytime it brings up a new tab that says Crash Report. Below is what I keep getting. Oh and I'm running WinXP SP3 (32 bit)

So last night, while the 1.6 snapshot was still running, I downloaded and was able to run Minecraft with the new launcher. Today, 1.6 is officially out, and it keeps crashing. The only thing I have done, is removed the old launcher and downloaded the new one, twice, but it keeps giving me a crash report, and doesn't want to run the game.

    Quote from Glasscreeper

I agree. In 1.2.5 I never had to deal with bugs. In 1.3.1 I have problems.

Agreed. And its not like i'm behind the times with my system. I'm most likely behind with the RAM, but i'm still running XP Pro SP3, and i've been told XP wont recognize anything more than 4gb of memory, which currently is being read as 3.25gb. And i'm running an Intel Core 2 Quad machine @ 2.83ghz, plus an Nvidia 1gb card, so I can't see how with what I have is not enough for minecraft, because it runs perfectly fine. Granted i'm on a 32 bit system, so I can run the far render distance, but after a while the game becomes super laggy which is expected, but when mobs start glitching, come on, that is not a computer problem, but a game issue.

I've read at multiple places, that some people even have 8 or 12gb of ram, and they STILL have issues.

And multiplayer in itself has had issues from the start, at least whenever I would try and run multiplayer. I can even run minecraft on my laptop, which doesn't have near the power this system does, that's a Win 7 OS, and mainly I just had to turn the graphics down to fast, turn off all the pretty stuff and it runs good on that system.

posted a message on 1.3.1 brings minecraft back to Alpha stage (here is why)
    Quote from Danlisa

If this is accurate, then v1.3.1 has a severe issue with Quad Core CPUs and GTX 6xx series cards.

Currently, v1.3.1 is maxing out my GPU (yes you read that right, MAXED). It has 90-100% GPU usage, is using 1.7GBs of video RAM and is pushing cards temps through the roof. FWIW, it's a GTX 670.

Meanwhile, my CPU is barely being taxed at all. MC is using 500 to 700mb of System RAM and is running at around 270 FPS @ 1080p with AA enabled.

There is something very wrong with v1.3.1 and it's a huge step backwards compared to v1.2.5.

You're very correct, there is definetly something very wrong with 1.3.1. I didn't bother to check what all on my system was being taxed by MC 1.3.1, but I dropped my MC back to 1.2.5, only because that was the best working version thus far.

My theory is that mojang wants this mod api in soooo bad, that someone out there can magically make a mod that fixes the bugs mojang cannot. If that statement is wrong, okay, its wrong, but at this moment, thats how i feel. Personally, i'm not one to even go near mods, they look cool and everything, but, i'll leave the mods to the people who like em.

Anyway, I was one who was waiting on 1.3.1, tripwire hooks, temples, cocoa beans, and i figured that if MC is gonna play like it does with MP, screw it, screw all the new stuff, and i dropped back to 1.2.5, and will try to be very very very patient, and try to find faith somewhere that mojang will have the bugs fixed, but that is probably a long shot

posted a message on Minecraft 1.3.1 update is a joke
Okay so i'm sure everyone reading this probably knows of all the issues 1.3.1 has come with, and if you enjoy single player like I do, drop your game back to the last playable update, 1.2.5, because as for now its the only way you'll enjoy your Minecraft experience.

It would be nice to see Mojang actually step up and fix the issues multiplayer has, because now, 1.3.1 single player has the same exact issues as multiplayer, and i'm not one who cares about mods or plugins, and I really don't care for multiplayer either.

For some desert and jungle temples, and tripwire hooks, yea, 1.3.1 is definetly not worth it one bit, unless you enjoy the issues that multiplayer has always had.

posted a message on 1.3.1 Lagging, server type lag on Singleplayer.. What?!
    Quote from duke605

Yup thats Mojang for you, it's hard not to flame when they keep doing crap like this. all the mobs are stuttering like crazy,

why they added the Internal server, i'll never know,

you can do the same thing by just hosting a server and not port forwarding....

Oh I can tell you the 2 reasons they added this stupid internal server. First it was so that when Minecraft gets an update, with Singleplayer being a part of multiplayer, its easier for Mojang to release one update so that both Singleplayer and Multiplayer get updated, and secondly, because Mojang is in HUGE support of mods.

They should have left the game alone, and all would have been fine. Now I need to find out how to go back to 1.2.5, because the only reason I played singleplayer, was because playing multiplayer lagged so much, large chunks wouldn't load in the world, mobs/animals glitching all over the place, yea, Mojang really messed up this time.

Just choose your system operator (Available for Mac or Windows, 32 and 64 bit), download it, extract it somewhere, and click the "main.exe". Load your worlds, and have fun editing!

I had also downloaded and installed the top download, for windows, 32 bit. I was able to work in the MCedit program, however, it will only run for about 5 minutes before it just crashes to the desktop.

Is this the only version of MCedit available?

And does anyone know of any map programs that are out there, that allow you to create a map of your current world, so you can see from an overhead view or isometric view of what it would look like? There were 2 of those that I had, but they dont work with MC 1.2.5. Thanks :)

posted a message on Minecraft single player lag/freezing
Okay, so i've been reading the posts about Minecraft lag and currently I'm having an issue with when i'm just walking, not running, everything will freeze, then goes back to normal for 5 seconds, sometimes 10 seconds, then freezes again.

If I bring up that F3 option that shows your x, y, and z positions, at the bottom left is a meter, and whenever I freeze, a line will turn red in the meter, and will go all the way to the top of the screen. Sometimes in this meter, for each time the meter updates, you may see one or two red lines. Sometimes i'll just be standing still, and you'll still see those lines. I like to refer to those lines as "spikes" cause thats what it seems like is happening, some kind of spike happens and everything will freeze up, including that meter.

Anyway, sometimes this happens, and other times it doesn't happen. Any ideas or anyone else having the same issues? If so and anyone can explain why this happens, or whichever, lemme know just what is going on. Thanks :)

Here's my system specs if it helps...

    Windows XP SP3
    Intel Quad Core 2.83 GHz
    3.25 GB RAM
Nvidia GeForce 9500 1 GB (yes graphics driver is up to date)
    VIA Integrated Sound
    DirectX 9.0c

Also this is what the Java website tells me what version i'm running...

You have the recommended Java installed (Version 6 Update 32).

And i'm running Minecraft version 1.2.5

posted a message on Post all 1.6.5 bugs HERE
I'm having major problems with the world drawing on multiplayer... or rather, not fully drawing the world 100%.

If I join a multiplayer game on friends or relative's private server, the world loads in, bur after going in for a little bit, you can see parts of the world, where there should be land, all you see is what would be below that, lava, tunnels, etc. Also, some parts of the world, will be almost like a pitch black, where areas right next to that are normal looking.

And now it started doing it to me in the single player version as well.

posted a message on Minecraft Beta 1.5
I just recently formatted my computer about 2 weeks ago, and did a fresh install of Windows XP Pro, and everything else, drivers, software that came with the computer etc.

I've been playing the heck out of Minecraft Beta 1.5, and as of late I've been having an issue where i'll be playing, and then all of a sudden the game will lock up, I go to the Task Manager, and in the Applications tab I see, Java, Not Responding. So I do the usual End Task, and I get, javaw.exe has caused an illegal operation and must be shutdown. Which also closes out Minecraft.

Has anyone else ran into this problem or what I should do? I have the latest drivers all installed on my computer, I also have the latest Java update. I was thinking of uninstalling Java and reinstalling, but if anyone might know what's going on, any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
