Ah man, I was just checking out my desktop and I have some rather old versions of BTW still on it xD Just to Minecraft 1.3, but going on three years, that's pretty old for software. It makes me want to make, I dunno, a "Better Than Wolves Through the Ages" or a "Then and Now" vid or something hahaha. But really it makes me think I should clean out my desktop more often
I think BTW was my first 'real' mod (besides Rei's Minimap, oh how I relied on that thing) I really like current BTW, have never considered playing an earlier version or turning off hardcore features when there was a config. I only wish we could have gotten horses lol man I love horses! (just in general hehe)

May 23, 2014Okay, I rechecked and figured it out. Some antivirus programs think it's a virus and block the download completely for some reason, which lists the website as generically unavailable. First time that's ever happened with me and minecraft mods hehe, oops.Posted in: Minecraft Mods
Looking forward to playing later tonight, thanks.

I never find coal, so I use furnaces, and poking holes in caves for light, both take time to do, and don't really prevent monster spawns that much. And most of my shallow caves tend to be stone 100%. I don't know why.
Dirt half slab everything to prevent monster spawns Not the roof, just the floor, and just with bottom slabs don't put them even with the top half of the block. If you can place a torch on it, mobs can spawn on it. Slabbing over doesn't prevent gloom effects tho
I'm a scaredy cat with caves so sometimes I just branch mine and half slab the branches when I close them off, which is painfully boring not gonna lie. xD But there's always surface coal and iron about, if you walk around enough to find 'em.
You'll get into your groove eventually If not well, there's other mods that are fun too
Try putting in your birthday or SSN for the seed, I usually get pretty lucky spawns doing that My SSN spawn is an abandoned village with a big pumpkin patch nearby.
Dec 14, 2013Need a free program that can record Minecraft, in game sounds and optionally your microphone? Try Open Broadcaster Software (obsproject.com). Just set it's broadcast settings to File Output Only. You might have to set it to Monitor or Window Capture instead of Game Capture for Minecraft. You don't have to record in full screen mode with it either, you can set it's recording area. It's completely free. No need to steal it, no annoying branding and you can do quite a bit of fine tuning with it's settings.Posted in: Technical Help
Good luck all you burgeoning video masters! ^^
Sep 20, 2013Pyropunk24 are you using McPatcher? It has good instructions and screenshots on it's mod thread. Just run McPatcher, use game version 1.5.2 and add BTW as a mod (be sure not to use the server jar folder, just add the client version). Click patch, close McPatcher, play Minecraft. If you don't want to use McPatcher, I've found the easiest to understand directions were for installing Optifineusing their 'C' method. Again instead of 1.6.2, use 1.5.2 version.Posted in: Minecraft Mods
On the topic of the new updates, super excited about putting colored candles up everywhere.
Jan 4, 2013RestlessThoughts posted a message on STEP BY STEP TUTORIAL FOR SURVIVING THE FIRST NIGHT.Great presentation and intro. Might want to label the annotations to the different steps more descriptively (like Gathering instead of just step 3)Posted in: Tutorials
Also, when I first started Minecraft, I had no idea that you had to hold down the mouse button to maintain your punch. I thought you just punch-punch-punch by rapidly clicking the mouse and that would work. If you make another one of these, maybe include the buttons you press/hold down?
Also you might want to make your GUI bigger.
And I feel like asking new players to gather 40 wood, 30 cobble and 15 sand right off the bat is a little much. As an experienced player I don't even do that my first night. And building a wooden house, well, that's nice, but you don't even mention food or weapons or putting stuff in chests or skipping the night by making a bed if they're lucky enough to find sheep. I feel like those are important new player things to know about. Makes the video seem less geared toward true newbies and more for experienced but still living in caves players. Thanks for including the charcoal lesson instead of sending new players for coal tho, and you got all the basic tool recipes.
Those are my nitpicks. But I think it's a good video! It's a nice approach to not send players right into the caves/mines as soon as possible and to set them up in more style than a dirt house.
Jan 4, 2013Turns out when there's no land around, the dragon tries to basically sit on top of you.Posted in: Other Videos
This was on an SMP server where, apparently, the dragon respawns around players or something? I'm not sure what happened. But I was so far out, the actual island wasn't loaded (I was using /sethomes to teleport back and forth). Made for a super easy fight!
