VileAssassin posted a message on Slingshots(Updated)Don't already suggest me on this. I have a strong stance on keeping mainstream ideas popular.Posted in: Suggestions
The Idea
An alternative to bows that is technically easier to craft in its lowest cost form. It's ammo of choice is seeds of any type. It could be enchanted to shoot multiple shots at once. Seeds do less damage than arrows, but the firerate is slightly faster than a bow's drawback. (Seeds also burn in lava)
The Construction
(feather is a string)
(please don't dislike this idea just because of the tiers. This part is just a possible way they could take this idea. It can easily work with just the stick version above)
The tiers only differ in how many uses they have.
The Look
I picture that the whole forked part and handle is all of one material. Wood if you use sticks, stone if you use cobblestone, iron(white) if you use iron etc. In the center of the fork is where the seed is loaded and that gets pulled back similar to a bow.
Will this replace the Bow?
No. Don't ever think this would be a suitable weapon compared to the bow. It only would have a slight drawback change. The seeds would do less damage than arrows. I am not knowledged in how much damage arrows do, so I'm unsure how much they would do, but it wouldn't be as powerful as the bow, it wouldn't shoot as far as a bow can. The main benefit is that it uses ammo that you can grow, and that the crafting recipe for it is lesser than a bow.
Why a slingshot?
I would appreciate a projectile option other than the bow, because arrows are really taxxing to get, especially early on. If my idea was added, people could have a projectile weapon with some seeds by the start of the second day, first day if they find an abandoned mineshaft. If this were added I can picture the newbies attacking the wildgrass of plains for seeds, both for farming and for ammo. The bow would then be reserved for a later more powerful upgrade.
The slingshot is often protrayed as the projectile weapon of choice before you acquire a bow in many RPGs and the common projectile of choice for slingshots in RPGs is seeds. Minecraft has seeds and a perfect crafting recipe for a slingshot, so I put 2 and 2 together, and the slingshot seems to be a perfect match for Minecraft. - To post a comment, please login.

I know there is already a mod for it, but I want it legitimately in-game.
3
1. Right-click on desktop and click NVIDIA Control Panel
2. Select 'Adjust image settings with preview' in the left pane
3. Select the 'Use the advanced 3D image settings' on the right
4. Click 'Apply' at the bottom right
For Windows ATI Video Cards:
1. Right-click on desktop and click Catalyst? Control Center
2. Select 'Advanced Settings'
3. Select 'Graphics' then '3D'
4. For Anti-Aliasing, check 'Use Application settings'
5. For Anisotropic Filtering, check 'Use Application settings'
6. Click Apply or OK

Replacing the mq.class file has worked and is still working for the majority of people experiencing the non-coloured text problem. If it didn't work for you, I suggest paying his thread a visit and asking him about it personally. Make sure to follow his guide down to the letter.

I suggested a sufficiently efficient slime farm on an older thread. And seeing that you have already predetermined the exact location of your slime chunk, you can skip the idea of a 30 x 30 room and instead just dig out the entirety of the slime chunk alone. Although be sure to light up nearby caving system, because a room that is less than 30 x 30 in length and width will not take up the required space to ensure the restriction of spawn chance to slime.

The idea of a 30 x 30 room is to give an extra leeway in case you're not certain where the exact slime chunk is. It is intended for those who do not want to use a third-party application/mod in order to determine a slime chunk. Or the people who want to be able to find where a slime would spawn on their own. For them, there is no "sure-fire" way to pinpoint a slime chunk. Digging extra space will increase the chance of finding one. It also serves to occupy and light up the "caves in the area" to minimize hostile mob spawn rate, as I mentioned on the original post.
The idea of a 3 block-high room on the other hand, was taken right from the Wiki; which has stated that "Big Slimes require a 3 x 3 x 3 space to spawn" and later goes on to state that "Slimes are much more likely to spawn in a 3 high room". Not only that, but it also gives the bonus of XP when killing the biggest slime. Doing so will further increase your profit, as I again, said on the original post. Keep in mind that my schematic is not aiming to be fully automated; otherwise I would have gone piston/grinder fancy. I'm rather for the natural feel of it.
And as I stated, the lighting has to be in between the floors - meaning a torch on a block/glowstone resting mid-air. It will give you the sufficient light source you will need and at the same time still provide a spawn chance for the smaller variety of slime.

If you want an efficient farm, try the following:
The red numbers represent the y-axis, from level 40 down to the bedrock. Dig five 30 x 5 x 30 rooms, one atop of another, and make sure to light it up completely. That will ensure that no other hostile mob will spawn in any of the nearby chunks, therefore increasing the slime spawn rate.
When lighting the place up, make sure to place your light source in between the floors. This way you don't occupy the areas that could otherwise provide a spawn.
If you want to go the extra mile, you can fit in a total of 7 rooms(without hitting most of the lava pools; located at level 12 and below) by making each of them 3 block-high starting from level 40 downwards. This is possible due to the fact that the largest of slime only needs a space of at least 3 x 3 x 3 in order to spawn. Doing so will further increase your profit. Either which way you choose, you should be able to get more slimeball than you'd ever need.
The whole schematic can take a while to construct, but the pay off is hefty.

I remember requesting this implementation just a few days back.
Then again, I'm sure the same request had been iterated a million instances already way before I made it. They also decreased rare mob drop chance, which is a bummer for me. But a lot of people had suggested it, so in one way or another, the fact that they took it into consideration is a good thing, no?
Anyway, I hope they flush out all the bugs that came with the latest snapshot in the next update.
