I have another suggestion then that's to do with the planks.
They have the 'two-thick, two-thin, repeat' pattern when tiled which to me feels like it's adding a banding effect... it'd probably be even more apparent on larger stretches of wall/floor.
I would suggest averaging out the thickness (somewhere between the two) for all of them, but re-introduce the thinner/thicker bits briefly, tapered at the edges, for alternates. Maybe also introduce knots?
I'll keep an eye on the board!

To me it's the lapis and redstone that look embedded, not the iron. I actually prefer the non-embedded look, like the mineral is protruding from the stone and casting a shadow beneath it, but your point stands; it should be consistent. So here I can mention having both versions all over again

Would you mind doing an alternate stone slab version that is just half a regular smooth stone? People could then choose to use that if they like.
Edit: On second thought, maybe this would be better for after you've finished the first version.

If/when you get this finished, I see it becoming my default. It's bound to get compared to Sphax for the cartoon-like nature but it's got a much more subtle, pleasant palette with some tasty texture. I love the way the items actually feel chunky. Cracking job!
Edit: I'm going to stick my neck out and add something else here. Looking at your other little graphics samples on your tumblr, you should consider trying to track down a coder and put your work in to a small indie game. It'd look delicious.

I just found a castle that had generated through a Natura Redwood tree leaving the top 3/4 floating there. Is there a way to stop this? (erase anything/everything above the generated 'structure').
I found the config entry of d_world_gen_skippable_blocks but I'd like confirmation if anyone happens to know.
