I remember back in 1.7.3 when a skeleton or two, plus a zombie, could easily turn Minecraft into a game of 'I'm ****ed,' even if I had full diamond armor. Most of the other things need to be nerfed a bit as well, such as iron. Iron is incredibly easy to find, I can walk into any surface cave and come out with like a stack or three. I remember when iron was precious, and at best you could find a stack in a very large cave system.
Diamonds, however, are rare enough as is. It's just that the armor should be heavily nerfed.
Caves becoming rarer is another thing I'm not for here, though. Sure, caves are plentiful now, but if they were reduced, it'd remove the exploration aspect of Minecraft. The underground world is an interesting place, just begging for adventure. I just think that ravines shouldn't be so damn deep, or if they stayed the same, should be a hell of a lot more rare. (Like 1 in every 50 or so chunks.)
Caves are excellent. Fun to explore yes, and you get A LOT of ore from them. However, ravines and caves have been upped in spawnrate a bit. It's hard to dig down now without falling into a cave of some sort.
HOWEVER, this thread is useful if you want to do the sensible thing and take these suggestions and make a mod out of them.
I was under the impression game-breaking errors should be fixed in the game itself. I understand if you're a peaceful player, but PvE/PvP is severely broken and unbalanced now.
And God help us because of that, because Notch is perhaps one of the single worst people in the world at implementing ideas.

But there's not really any role-play. Steve never changes. Steve in enchanted diamond armor swinging an enchanted diamond sword while buffed with a dozen potions is still the same Steve that popped into existence with the world.

1.7.3 armor was worthless. It was so bad, I didn't make it. I learned how to live without it. Now with regenerating health and those skills I don't need armor.
I disagree, 1.7.3 armor was useful, but not godmode. It saved me multiple times on occasions I would of died via creeper, especially at full durability.

I would agree with this petition if it clearly stated that it was solely a change for hard/hardcore mode, but as it is written it appears to be demanding increased difficulty of mobs, decreased strength of armor, and increased rarity of ores and ravines at no particular difficulty level.
I cannot support this petition unless it was made clear to only apply to hard and/or hardcore mode.

Hard would go perhaps a tad harder than 1.7 hard, but not by too much.
