Enderman is a cool idea if you just create a world to explore and fight monsters,

How cool is it actually? If you just explore and fight, you'd see randomly placed blocks. Cool? I fail to see how.

    They're just overloading "Survival" mode.

Survival mode should have stopped in the last version and 1.8 should have included a new "Adventure" mode, with less emphasis on building and more on going out and fighting.

That way they'd have the extremes (creative and adventure) and Survival being in the middle, supporting the gameplay we've all grown accustom to: mob traps, mechanisms (including pistons), etc., and basically building in a world where you need to get the resources for yourself.

P.S. If Notch is intent on changing the very nature of the game then he should at least allow us to download older versions legitimately. 1.8 introduces some nice things, but if he actively pushes us in certain directions with new game mechanics, Minecraft is becoming less an less of a sandbox game.

I think dividing the game into different aspects with loose connections between them is a bad idea. The strong point of Minecraft is its freedom. At any second, I can decide to go hunting even though I built tons of structures. Or I can go exploring, or mining. Remove any of these possibilities and the game will be less rich for it.

Then Notch can suck those things dangling between my legs.

It's the basic evolution of survival. Mankind began in a state where it had to migrate around the world, chasing down animals to kill for food, leathers, etc. Over time man learned the benefits of breeding animals for a more permanent supply of food.

There are even game preserves that allow for the preservation of animal populations while allowing controlled hunting.

Passive and aggressive mob farms are of a similar vein. You start the game having to search for your materials and you grow to a point that you control the supply. Take that away and what's the point?

I'll build the occasional "pretty" structure, but almost everything I make is functional, and usually based around being a large, efficient MOB trap; combining form with function. Everything I've build I've done so in Survival, as well, meaning I've had to work for every stone, every rail, every dye. That work makes the result significantly more satisfying.

8 separate MOB collecting waterways and moat going to a central collection point, complete with elevators to extend the waterways.

A spread of waterways for mob collection. Very efficient given the limited spawnable areas around.

Four mob spawn areas (aggessive inside, passive on top) feeding into a central collection point. Incredibly efficient.

Enderman will have a god damn field day with these, and in the process completely ruin how I like to play the game.

Damn, these are epic! Just wait until someone calls you "lazy" because you don't hunt for the stuff... Congrats on the epicness! I'd not mind seeing more pictures if you feel like it.

Dude you do know that Notch hates mob grinders right? There's no way he's going to remove enderman's block picking up ability.

Actually, I don't know that. I've heard it often, but have never seen evidence of this. Moreover, XP doesn't drop from mobs killed in grinders, which means they could have done the same for regular drops, but chose not to, which means they don't "hate" grinders. If they did, why not cancel regular drops as well?

Lastly, hating ingenuity and creativity and learning the game's mechanics to create sophisticated tools, if Notch and company hate that, they're clearly on the wrong track. Sorry to break the news to you, but pistons, redstone, and all the stuff that allows you to create machines and systems, so far, their best use and most rewarding is to create "grinders".

Question: after an official update, will I need to replace the geezie file again and delete the meta folder again?

Endermen should be called "geezies" - from their class file, "gz.class". It's the file you modify to remove their block-removing ability.

ok, like i said)) Just whine, stamp your feet and cry=)) And the main goal is to NOT listen to anybody. I want this sweeties!!! aaaahaaaaa.....

In case you haven't read much of the thread, the problem is solved. Why would I whine and stomp my feet? My endermen no longer pick up blocks, problem solved.

I stay here for the discussion about the game, not about myself. I do believe it's a bad addition to the game, period.

I listened to everyone in this thread, and responded to most. I have no idea why you're so upset that people have an opinion that differ from yours, but I suggest you get used to it because you will find that a lot during your life. Yes, people will disagree with you.

It's funny that everything you accuse us of is what you do. You're the one complaining that we opened a thread on something we think is a bad move, and you're the one not listening, since you clearly didn't read any of the thread.

Why do you post? You bring no argument to the table. You just... whine. Whining is the act of complaining without any actual attempt at solving the problem at hand. That's whining. It's not what I've done in this thread; we discussed solutions and actually found more than one. The problem is solved, now it's discussion about enderman more generally. You don't have to participate if you don't want to, so stop whining, and deal with it.

Don't expect another answer from me.

    You're welcome, I'm glad I could help.

No, the video was made by ICYCARTER.

After I found which file contained the Enderman data (gz.class), I opened it up in a java decompiler, I then played around with it, removing one function at a time, to see which one was the block picking up ability (for instance, one of the ones I removed before that was the teleport ability).
After I found the block picking up ability, I then removed only that specific function, so that all of the other Enderman abilities remain, and only the ability to pickup blocks was gone.

Then I recompiled the file, and after testing it, I uploaded it.

Thank you! I didn't expect to understand, but that's crystal clear. In honor of you, and dishonor of enderman, I suggest we rename endermen, "Geezies", because of the gz.class file.

I find it amusing how people say it's good to have a more difficult game (which endermen don't make, actually), but don't mind, at all, the ability to stack food, and to have your hearts be restored via the hunger bar.

Now, that makes survival way easier, and none of you tough Minecrafters who punch creepers in the face react to this?

This thread is really pointless, stop whining you schoolgirls, if you want to play constructor, go and by some lego, or play classic version. The name is SURVIVAL!! What u want to see here?? Why whining, crying, complaining, like a daddy's little babies scared of a plush monster. I saw VERY huge areas, built off with stupid high buildings and left! Miles of emptiness, u can find nobody in there, nobody cares about them, noone ever returns to, idk just look how it was... people just moved to another location and building some stuff there. Now answer me why u need to protect stuff that nobody's cares about. If you don't care about you creations, let it be destroyed by nature, it's REAL. If u're good boy go and kill some endermen, and repair your stuf=))

Guess who's whining now? Yes, it's you. I won't even address the rest of your post as it makes very little sense.

Before you attack people and call them names, make sure that you don't fit any of the names you use.

I forgot to thank you, sir Jeffrey. You are a saviour of many, that is for sure. Did you make the video too? Without that, I wouldn't have tried to install said mod; it seemed too complicated (but isn't).

May I ask exactly how you made that mod? Technically speaking (and keep in mind I know nothing of this stuff).

Dougs pick blocks apart in the distance, far away from the player, in a completely random and uncoordinated way, and make circles on the ground. There is absolutely no danger added by this behavior, guys, that is in your ****ing heads. They're not "letting mobs get at you". They're not coordinating attacks. They're not targeting you in any way. All they're doing is hanging around in the distance making the terrain look like balls ****ing ****.

Listening to them, you'd think endermen were army generals turned ninja giants, conspiring in the night.

"Creepers, Zombies, Spiders, heed my words: I shall sneak into Steve's domain, and create an aperture into his home; from then on, you will get in and attack him. I'm so cunning."

Back to reality, enderman wanders aimlessly in Steve's backyard.

"Endie, I waited a half hour in front of Steve's house while you were... making circles with dirt blocks in the yard? What part of the plan is that?"

The following morning, Steve came out, and unlike what enderman had planned, did not suffer a heart attack at the fear of seeing dirt blocks where there weren't the day before. Three or four shovel blows later, and Steve was on to other things.

Keep calling them dougs, I dig that.

It basically lists the contents of the Minecraft.jar file, and when you run Minecraft, Java will check to make sure that everything in the Minecraft.jar is exactly the way it's listed in the META-INF.

So obviously, if you add a mod, you've changed the Minecraft.jar, and when Java checks the META-INF, it will see that you've altered the game, and won't let you start it.

You need to delete the META-INF whenever you add a mod, for this reason.

Thank you, sir. Is there any drawback to having deleted it? Do I have to expect bad things in future?

Another thing, endermen do not remove blocks to allow creepers in! There is no agenda to their block removing activities. To get any mob in, they'd have to remove two blocks, one on top of each other, and the odds of that are fairly small from what I've seen.

It feels like those who love enderman do so for reasons that exist solely in their minds.

This made me laugh a lot, thank you :biggrin.gif:

Thanks, I confess I giggled a healthy lot as well. It's just beyond me how people will exaggerate about enderman's qualities...

What they think he is: a ruthless killer of high intelligence who will go through bedrock to kill you.

What he is: a mentally retarded mob with a sick obsession for blocks and their random removal who doesn't care about your presence unless you stare at him, and then he either teleports or has a seizure (the only video I saw of him in action, he had a seizure).

I'm all for new mobs, but mobs that'd make the SURVIVAL aspect of the game better. Enderman DOESN'T do that, he merely makes the BUILDING aspect worse, but adds nothing to SURVIVAL. I cannot believe Notch designed him just to **** off a part of the players; that's unlike him, and ultimately counter-productive.

I've decided to respond to troll posts and other bad-faith comments with lolsy exaggerations. I'm seriously considering writing an ode to enderman if this continues.
