If the saving system was perfectly fine, then my data would still be there. Crashing =/= deleting all your data! That never happens with any other program, so stop saying it's "perfectly fine". Sheesh...

Like I said, my computer sometimes crashes, there's nothing to be done about it. It will crash again. Or there might be a power breakout, it makes no difference. Stop trying to blame something else. If someone trips over the cable and turns off my computer, the same will happen. The point is: when this happens with other games, I still have everything that got saved. Here, if the computer crashes, for any reason, everything that was saved somehow disappears. The very reason why we save is because such things may happen: the computer may turn off, die; the electricity may run out, whatever. We wouldn't need to save if everything went as expected. That's why we save regularly, not just before we stop playing.

Why do I have to explain the most basic stuff?

If you're content with a saving system that makes your data disappear if your computer dared crash or turn off, then you have to work on your common sense because I don't see the advantage of this, as opposed to a saving system that actually keeps your data saved even if you stop playing in a non-normal way, such as in a crash. You could start your computer again, and boom, your data is all there and you're happy. What's wrong with that?

    Thank you very much!

You're right, it's not glitchy at all for an alpha version.

The saving system in place is fine. If you are worried about your computer's hard drive kicking the bucket, then backup your data.

If it is fine, then how come all my data disappeared after my computer crashed? I had saved 4 minutes before it crashed, but when I came back, nothing. "Empty" on every slot". That happened to many other people, and nobody can retrieve the data anywhere. That's not "fine" to me.

Will our data be saved somewhere online on top of on our computers for maximal efficiency? Because I can't play the game knowing everything I do may come to nothing as soon as my computer crashes.

    Thank you.

    Dear All,

As many others, my computer crashed, and when I returned, there was no slot to click on anymore. Everything was "empty".

I decided to postpone snapping until I'd be sure of my loss.

According to other posts, you can retrieve data by typing appdata and such, but under "saves", there is nothing whatsoever. Where did everything go?

Do the Minecraft team intend to have an improved saving system? Like having the data saved on a server of theirs? Because, quite frankly, as much as I adore the game, losing all my work and everything I've ever created in it has gutted me.

And if I start a new world, I cannot play knowing that as soon as my computer crashes, everything will be lost again. My computer frequently has blue screens, it's unavoidable, but I shouldn't lose ALL the data! I save frequently because of this, and I had saved 5 minutes before the crash. But that was pointless. Why does that happen? And is there any way to get my data back? Where is it now?

    This ruined my Sunday.

Thank you for any help and explanation you may have for me.

    Nicolas

PS: I'm no computer geek, so if you give me details on how to manipulate files and such, make sure to be precise in what to do!
