    posted a message on Backwards Compatibility for Servers
    Hey guys.

    I got away from making mods but now I'm back and I think I have a pretty good idea.

    I ran into an issue today where, when I was trying to connect to an older server. Since it was running an older version of MC, I couldn't connect. If you think about this it doesn't make sense.

    A newer version of minecraft contains all of the content in older versions, plus new content. Generally, blocks/items/etc. are not taken out.

    Since (i think) the server makes all the decisions and sends that information back to the player, it should be trivial to make a client-sided mod that allows users of a newer version onto a server of an older version.

    I just want to bounce this idea, and see if I can find a few people who are interested in helping me code before I actually start. It would also be nice to know if this IS in fact possible.

    This has potential.

    If you do add the ability for NPCs to work do you think that you will lengthen the day? And also, how do you plan on implementing the economy? Will prices be a random deviation from a standard, or will it be somewhat driven by what NPC's buy?

    You could really go nuts with making a supersmart AI for the npcs.... I guess if you needed help I'd be willing to lend a hand.

    Possibly, I need to look at wolf code. And maybe draw some polygon wings for it, but they could probably just be folded in. It will probably spawn in the dark though

    I'm interested in the cooked porkchops, the bread, and the devil bombs; really sneaky way to assasinate someone with food poisoning and death upon contact. But do the devil bombs do more damage than TNT, or I may have over read the devil bombs.



    The devil bombs do have more power than TNT, they are a 1 hit kill and they are 1.5x the power

    NOW RELEASED FOR SMP!
    Odd things have been happening lately in the MineCraft world. Scientists are baffled at the appearence of a completely new substance.
    DEVILSTONE!




    I am aware that that is obviously NOT level 25 or lower


    This mysterious ore has only one answer for the question of its origin: The Nether itself. The substance, not dense enough for nether conditions must have floated up and then lodged itself below layer 25 of the Overworld, where densities were acceptable. This has been causing some weird occurrences.

    Well now YOU can harness the powerful abilities of devilstone! Start out by mining the substance to get the crystal.




    This crystal can be ground up to create a seed-type substance




    When planted, this sprouts into a weird, otherworldly plant that counter-intuitively prefers the dark to the light





    This plant can be harvested for wheat, but be careful... sometimes you may get an identical version of wheat, but it is cursed by the devil himself - devilwheat!

    Devilwheat can be distinguished only by one property, the creation of an eerie ash when smelted in a furnace.




    If not identified, devilwheat will create identical bread which instead of healing you will do 8 hearts of damage!



    However, this can be used for your advantage. As the two are exactly alike in appearance, place these in your enemies chests and they will never know what hit them! Also, you can make DEVILPORK!





    When crafted, the devil comes himself and sears the meat with a red hot curse - instant death to all who eat it!

    Along with the many agricultural related properties, this crystal can be used to create tools and weapons with a mysterious property, almost like a deal with the devil himself - powerful, but short-lived. These tools have the strength of diamond, but only the durability of stone.









    The devil's hoe, however has some even weirder properties. Despite its short usage of 40 uses, it grows crops!






    This hoe has a 1/10 chance of growing a crop, and 2/3 of the time that will be Devilcrop. The other 1/3 it will be Normal crops.

    This special ore can also create a superpowerful weapon that kills in a single blow. However, because it combines Nether and Overworld ore, it doesn't last very long. It is the Devil's Dagger




    Devilstone alone isn't very concentrated. It is possible to concentrate it higher by combining it with obsidian in an 1:8 ratio.




    This mix is highly unstable due to the netherly nature of it. Therefore, it can be used to create devilbombs.
    These are no ordinary explosives. Devilbombs explode on contact with anything alive, be it in a minecart, or on a boat, a mob or a human.





    When combined with an earthly element, these devilbombs become more dangerous. They can take on the form of that element. Currently only two types have been researched enough to be recreated in the lab: Dirt form and Smooth Stone form




    These two special explosives have all the properties of devilbombs while appearing just like their overworldy companions. These can be used to make land mines to take down your enemies!

    Installation:

    Download Risugami's ModLoader and install by using winrar to unzip the jar file, and dragging the modloader files in

    Download SDK's ModLoader MP and install the same as modloader

    Place the downloaded .zip file into the .minecraft/mods folder

    Download SDK's ModLoaderMP SERVER and install by unzipping the .jar and placing the files inside the jar

    Install the server files the same as installing ModLoaderMP

    Distribute to your users

    I'm willing to help out with this mod. The plant disappearing thing could be tricky, along with I never took the time to learn how to make entities so I would have to look into the code to figure out how to do a hellhound. Now if we wanted to just reskin a Wolf, thats easy.

    I know the basics to entities but otherwise they are kinda a pain

    Hey, I had a BRILLIANT idea when playing on my server w/ my friends (we arent public yet).
    SILENCED GUNS!


    They would be made by just placing a gun (except maybe minigun, flamethrower, lazer and rocket launchers) and a silencer into the crafting box, shaplessly


    A silencer would be crafted like this

    Just noticed a weird glitch with HiddenDoors on my server. They don't appear when you're underwater.... Like looking up at the door (out of water) from in the water doesn't show it. They function fine anyways otherwise, so I wouldn't call it a HUGE deal.

    Currently, I don't. School just got out and my friends and I wanted something to do instead of studying for those evil finals so I made the server. I'm probably going to set it up with a whitelist because we REALLY don't want people coming on and tearing everything up etc. I just have to wait to hear back from the rest of the guys and then I'll give you a link when I make one.

    Hey! I got the HiddenDoors working for my server. They are great! Just two things

    1. Obsidian and Iron BLOCK doors
      • If you could, also make the obsidian door like an iron door where it doesn't open manually. You could also add more special properties, like its unbreakable without a pickaxe (I'm pretty sure that's possible with the hardness, I mod a little xD).
    2. Trapdoors
      • This would be SUPER helpful for traps =D

    These have really benefited my server though. People are making really cool hidden bases and stuff. Maybe pics soon.
