posted a message on iMac Black Screen

For playing Minecraft (or any other game), I recommend you install a Windows dual boot. The reason is this:

Minecraft uses the OpenGL rendering API to draw to its window. Apple unfortunately decided to deprecate OpenGL in their latest version of the operating system. It was already buggy in Sierra and later, but this deprecation means they will not fix the bugs. OpenGL will also be gone in the next version of macOS, meaning any program that relies on OpenGL will not work, period.

In Windows however, the OpenGL implementation works just fine. You also do not need to purchase a Windows license to try this. Just go to Microsoft's website to download an ISO of Windows 10, and then follow the instructions on Apple's Bootcamp website. If it works for you, then you can purchase a Windows 10 license code from Microsoft to remove the watermark and other appearance imitations on unlicensed windows.

posted a message on Minecraft is too easy
    Quote from C1ff»

    Okay, I have two things...

    1. I'm not totally object to AI improvements on harder difficulties, but how smart exactly can a mob AI get without using up too many system resources?(Although I don't think path-finding calculations are as big of a hit on a system as rendering is)

Minecraft's AI is already incredibly basic, and as a whole the game uses very little CPU (it only uses maximum 5% of my CPU). Also, based on the OP's suggestions, Mojang would be adding a few more basic AI routines that could leverage existing ones. For example, Creepers targeting structures when they can't find the player, skeletons targeting obstacles when needing to reload, etc. This shouldn't be any more taxing than the game already is.

    2. I'm a bit confused by all these people who call the game "too easy". I play the game like an idiot sometimes (I drop into a field of mobs when I'm too high for them to attack anyway so I can collect that l33t l00t) but even then I feel like fighting mobs specifically is way too difficult. (Although maybe it's just because I don't use a shield.)

Minecraft's "difficulty" mostly changes how hard mobs hit you. That's where the OP's suggestion comes in. Instead of having mobs simply one-shot you, they would become smarter and therefore harder to defeat.

posted a message on [SOLVED][JAVA EDITION][MOJANG removed this years ago]Can't get § symbol in game [1.7.10] Use /tellraw JSON for colored text.

Minecraft doesn't accept the § symbol for colored text. Some server plugins add that as a shortcut.

For vanilla, however, you will need to use JSON. https://www.minecraftjson.com/ is a good site to generate text JSON. It works well with modern versions so you'll have to check that it's still compatible with a version as old as 1.7.10.

Currently to defeat "hard" mode, you just need to avoid getting one-shotted or swarmed. I think smarter AI would benefit the game.

posted a message on High Performance Issues on Modded MC 1.12.2 just with 44 Mods

Considering my laptop has similar specs to your computer, and it performs terribly without any mods, I think your computer is just old.

That being said, you can improve performance greatly by reducing render distance, closing all background programs, and using OptiFine to disable graphics niceties you don't really need.

For instance, modded skyrim is absolutely fluid even with around 60 mods.

Unfortunately you can't compare Minecraft java edition to other games in this way. Minecraft java edition is a terribly programmed game and runs poorly on pretty much any hardware. Skyrim's codebase is much better optimized.

posted a message on Witch Turns Villager

I think it would be cool to be able to turn witches into potion-selling villagers. However, you need to provide more information.

    1) How would I convert the witch? Perhaps a similar method to converting zombie villagers?

    2) What potions would this villager sell? How much would they cost?

    3) Does this villager have any other special traits?

    Partial support.

posted a message on Do people still play 1.8?

I think the only people who are debating it are the most vocal among the PVP community. Based on a survey of about 180,000 servers, the vast majority of servers are running versions newer than 1.8, with 1.8 holding only 10%.

Contrary to PVPer's popular belief, you can pvp on newer versions. You just have to do it differently.

The newer versions open up worlds of opportunity for creativity within the game. At some point it's time to move on. 1.8 turned 4 years old last month.

posted a message on Got an old Mac? We need your help!

    1. Yes, Minecraft 1.13 runs quite well on both my old Macs (50-300fps)

    2. I have a late 2013 iMac and a mid 2012 MacBook pro running macOS 10.11.6.

    3. Model Identifiers: iMac 14,2, MacBookPro10,1

4: GPU Chipsets: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M (iMac), NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M (MacBook)

5: Latest macOS version available: Mojave Betas (Do not use these!)

Note to everyone: Apple is deprecating OpenGL in the next macOS update (Mojave). This means that they will no longer fix bugs in OpenGL for mac, and it will likely be gone altogether within a year from now, meaning Minecraft will not work at all. If you want to play Minecraft on your mac, regardless of its age, you have a couple of options:

    1. Do not upgrade to Mojave. OSX El Capitan (10.11.6) has the most stable OpenGL implementation.

    2. Upgrade to Mojave, and install Microsoft Windows on your mac as a dual boot. Apple supplies Bootcamp for free preinstalled that allows you to boot into Windows if you have installed it. Here's a guide on now to do that: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201468

You do not need to purchase a Windows license for this. You can download the installer for Windows from Microsoft for free. A free license comes with a few limitations but nothing that will affect gameplay performance.

posted a message on how do you show the debug screen?

Also check to make sure your laptop doesn't have secondary actions bound to the function row with FN.

I've used a few laptops where both F3 and FN+F3 did operating system things and wouldn't trigger in game. Sometimes Alt+FN+F3 will work in this case.

posted a message on How to remove unwanted language packs?

I just checked, and for me at least it seems to only download languages when you switch languages.

Upon inspecting the 1.13.1 .jar file, the only language in the lang folder I can find is en_us.json.

One thing you can try is
    1) Make a copy of your .minecraft folder

    2) Delete your .minecraft folder and have the game redownload

    3) see if it downloads all the languages

If it doesn't, then just copy your saves, texturepacks, and options.txt from the .minecraft copy to the new .minecraft.

posted a message on Why am I lagging at Extreme render distance so much??

Fortnite is well optimized. Minecraft is not.

I can play on the bedrock edition at 64 chunk distance without any lag, but on the java edition I'm lucky to get 20 chunks running at 60fps.

It's just due to the sloppy way they created Minecraft Java, and there isn't a whole lot you can do about it unfortunately.

I'd drop to 20 chunks. Most servers have their draw distance set to 10 chunks so having it further doesn't help a whole lot.

posted a message on New Graphics Card Glitch?

Does it work without the mods?

There could be a few possibilities:

    1) There is a bug in one of the mods
    2) There is a bug in the GPU driver
    3) There is a problem with the GPU itself

posted a message on Low FPS on 1.12 after latest update. affects single player and mulitplayer

Intel classifies your CPU as mobile, which places it into the same category as phone processors.

You can try turning off vsync, and using OptiFine with 1.12 (on its lowest possible settings). Dropping the view distance also helps.

You can also try setting your laptop's power settings to Maximum Performance, as this can sometimes increase game performance by 5-10%

Beyond that, I don't know of anything to help.
