AvionPhoton posted a message on I miss MinecraftPosted in: DiscussionHey, if you miss Minecraft you should play it more and think about the reason why it is so awesome! For me it is the endless beauty in being able to create from new ideas.
I used to be a more passive player and now I have discovered that I actually enjoy sharing my creations from the game, it gives playing another depth!
In the end, that is what makes the community too, people playing not only for themselves, but for what they can make and give from it.Minecraft is like a tool for creating 3D-art for me, apart from the survival game which also has its charm.
Trends may come and go, but YOU are always in charge of doing what YOU enjoy the most. Don't get too attached to where 'everyone' is going is my best advice. I have also had my time playing counterstrike and such games, and got into them because other people played them, but in the end I had to listen to my innermost voice which said that this is not who you want to be, you don't want to spend your life chasing numbers in a killing simulator. If a thing doesn't resonate fully with your values, why continue doing it?

jcm2606 posted a message on Anyone know why shaders are causing me low fps?Posted in: Mods DiscussionOptifine is outright required for a lot of shaders nowadays, because it offers features that the original shaders mod just doesn't include, namely things like deferred programs, the #include preprocessor, new uniforms, temporal buffers, etc.

theartbook35 posted a message on Optifine installerPosted in: Mods DiscussionIf you cannot get Optifine's installer to open by using the "open with..." option, then try placing Optifine's .jar file into the mods folder of the .minecraft file folder. That should work, because it's what I did.

TheMasterCaver posted a message on Fastest chunk loadingPosted in: DiscussionQuote from urielsalis»
SSD takes a lot longer to write than a normal hdd. I could say 2 or 3 times more and be right, think of it as a usb drive, You can copy stuff from it to the disc very fast, but when you try to write to it it takes a lot of time.
SSD has a limit on the times you can write data to it, so writing constantly to it will wear it out faster
Actually, SSDs are faster - in many cases MUCH faster (hundreds of times; hard drives are very limited by their IOPS performance), and in my experience disk I/O is the least important factor in chunk generation - how come I can copy a quarter-gig world in 5-10 seconds (to the same drive, so it has to read and write a total of half a gig of data, and this is a standard 7200 RPM hard drive), while it takes 30-40 seconds to create a new world in 1.8 (a lot slower than older versions; for example, 1.6.4 takes 10 seconds to generate a world that is a third jungle around spawn, a real killer in 1.8; the same seed in 1.8 is mostly plains with some forests and extreme hills), which only generates a few MBs of save files (the default spawn area is 25x25 chunks, 400x400 blocks)?
Even chunk loading appears to be CPU bound (at least in my case); the game really does compress chunks a lot when saving them - if you look here a single chunk section (around 5-6 in an average chunk) contains 12 KB of block and light data, plus any entities and tile entities (an average of 60-72 KB per chunk; 1024 chunks per region means 60-72 MB per region, which takes up 1/10 as much space or less; the largest region file in my world is about 8 MB and most are less, averaging about 4.75 MB). This is also confirmed by using Resource Monitor - the drive is barely taxed while the CPU is maxed out.
Not saying that disk speed isn't important but it certainly isn't a huge factor depending on how good the rest of your system is, especially while loading new chunks, as opposed to existing chunks.
Also, the limited writes for SSDs are overblown; only in the most extreme situations will they fail in any realistic amount of time (more likely, due to external factors or a defect):
To put that figure into perspective, the SSDs in my main desktop have logged less than two terabytes of writes over the past couple years. At this rate, it'll take me a thousand years to reach that total...
See also this bug report concerning very slow chunk loading during chunk generation, as well as this bug report about slow chunk loading since 1.8.2 ("works as intended").
(just about everything about 1.8 is much slower for me; the game even takes 10-15 seconds just to load, far slower than any previous version where the launcher (prior to the latest launcher) took much longer and loading an existing world takes a similarly long time compared to older versions - despite the same amount of data being loaded so the issue is clearly not disk speed) -

lightnessX1 posted a message on Clouds missing in optifine.Okay, well I had this problem aswell, before I disabled optifine and turned clouds off then on in a clean minecraft jar. Once I did this I installed optifine and enjoyed the company of the nice, white puffy clouds!Posted in: Mods Discussion

You and your enemy will have to go through 3 dimmensions: The Overworld, The End and The Nether! In the end you will trade your beacons, nether stars, tnt blocks, horse armor, sponges (even the wet ones!!!) and dragon eggs for some insane armor, if you don't get any during the race (depends on your... Luck!)! Then you will battle to DEATH! Improvise on this one. Take a look:
The map is mainly based on PopularMMOS and GamingWithJen's "Lucky block race" series, also not forgetting PrestonPlayz! Thank you guys! YOU ARE THE BEST!!!
