So, Optifine 1.8 is around 90% done? I am glad to know it will be available soon. My computer of course has strong graphics and other components, but it always helps when I try to run textures at crazy resolutions like 1024x1024, especially if I enable any kind of shaders.
Without the help of Optifine, my computer might have already exploded under the weight of shaders and high res textures.
Optifine for 1.8 is already available, just not fully complete yet. As you can clearly see in the first post, you can download the A5 version. It works absolutely fine in 1.8, it just hasn't got all the features fully functional yet.
Should I assume that the versions for 1.7.2 works for 1.7.4, or should I be waiting for an update?
Nope, 1.7.2 mods are not compatible with 1.7.4
Once again Mojang completely changed the obfuscation of the code in 1.7.4 (which is what caused the 1.7.2 mods to take so long), so again we need to wait for MCP to figure out the obfuscation first before sp614x can develop for 1.7.4
Guys, just to confirm, I keep seeing people say "Damage Indicators updated to v3.0.0" (or a message almost exactly like that) when they join my server.
Does that mean they have the mod installed, or are they just trolling?
Not sure I'm keen on the new installer system that installs a new profile, I'd much rather just have a zip file of all the changed files so that i can manually mod profiles myself.
I know I'm mostly ignorant about how this whole process works, but how is the optifine update progressing (75%) if the MCP hasn't been updated? I thought we were waiting on that to get updated for anything to happen.
MCP released a beta version on Christmas Day (or close to it), so Sp614x is using that to get started.
This is taking a long time... Im pretty sick of having 10 fps in MC.
AND I DONT NEED ANY COMMENTS SAYING THINGS LIKE:
>OH just be patient.
> optifine cant do anything without MCP
ect. Guys stop acting clever by saying things like that, it IS taking a long time and if people want to complain, they can!
Be patient, optifine can't do anything without MCP
And no, you can't complain. sp614x doesn't have to make this mod, but he chose to anyway, he's volunteering his time and effort. And people who complain about volunteers are selfish douchebags.
If you don't like the fact that Optifine hasn't updated yet, then why not volunteer to help either MCP or sp614x? Oh that's right, you're probably not a competent java coder.
You know.... I can't help but to simply wonder why optifine is a mod at all. At this point shouldn't it just be standard in minecraft? I understand that there are other mods for optimization and HD and so on out there and people should be able to choose which one they want to use but....
Mojang should have hired sp614x a long time ago and got him to code Optifine into Minecraft as standard.
I'm still using 1.6.4 because Project Red hasn't updated to 1.7 yet.
Or Buildcraft.
Or Railcraft.
Or IC2.
Or Mo'Creatures.
Or Thermal Expansion.
Or ChickenChunks.
Or .... well, actually, you know what? Let's save some time: NONE of the (currently) 88 mods in my private mod pack has updated to 1.7.yet.
Because Forge hasn't updated yet. And can't until MCP updates. And that is apparently proving more difficult than anticipated. The latest word is MCP for 1.7 MIGHT release sometime this month. And from what I recall, cpw estimated a month to update Forge after MCP updates.
So all of you players who just can't live without Optifine (or some other favorite mod) for another minute need to put on your big boy panties and be patient like the rest of us. Believe me, the devs are doing all they can. Harassing them over it is only going to make them cranky and hard to light.
Finally someone else taking a reasonable view of things.
Remember kids, sp614x and all the other Modders are doing this pretty much voluntarily. ing at them and whining will not make them work faster. Be thankful that they've already put so much effort into modding stuff for you already!
and now 1.7.4 i hope mcp will don't have any troubles
Shouldn't be an issue, the difference between 1.7.2 and 1.7.4 is minimal overall. Once MCP is ready for 1.7, making it perfect for 1.7.4 should be a very simple job.

Have you read the first post at all? He's been releasing preview versions for 1.7.4 for a week or so now

At a guess, Optifine for 1.7.2 will also be compatible with 1.7.3 and 1.7.4
There have been no huge changes that would break compatibility as far as I can tell.

So sit down, be quiet and wait.

Repeat that for every block and you get an idea of what the console looks like
