posted a message on Will this computer run minecraft decently?
    Quote from original_pet»
Getting my son a desktop. What do you think, is this an ok computer if his main activity is playing minecraft?

    http://store.hp.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/us/en/pdp/desktops/hp-18-5110-all-in-one-desktop-pc-energy-star

On a side note, he's in 1st grade and we don't really want to spend over $300 on a system for him.

    Thank you.

    Short answer: No.

Long answer: It will "Open" it, and "function", but it will not be able to run it. Meaning your son will be lucky to be able to play in Minimum settings, at 10fps.

The specifications for the PC you linked, are as follows:

    Operating system
    64-Bit Windows 8.1

    Processor
    AMD Dual-Core E1-2500 APU @1.4 GHz

    Graphics
    AMD Radeon HD 8240

    Display
    18.5” LED (1366 x 768)

    Memory
    4 GB 1333MHz DDR3L

    Hard drive
    500GB 7200 rpm SATA

The Benchmark ratings on the Processor, and GPU compared to average every-day hardware is quite atrocious, as you can see in these screenshots that I took on the PassMark site:

    http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=AMD E1-2500 APU

    http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=Radeon HD 8240

MineCraft might not "look" like it requires decent hardware, but it does. You'll need to be spending more than $300 on a PC if you want your son to be able to play the game. Sorry about that.

posted a message on Worst ban ever
Well.. I've never been banned before, so I can't really add to this.. though I guess I could share a ridiculous ban that one of my friends received.

We were both on an FTB server, and the owner had set up a chat filter. One of the included words was "Lagg". He apparently hated it when people said his server was laggy (When it was), so my friend decided to ask "Why is the server so L4ggy?" And he was banned on the spot, for "Circumventing the Chat Filter". Lol.

    Quote from sacl»
I'm researching laptops for my boys as well. The Acer Quavelen mentioned looks like a good deal, and it has the recommended graphics card. But, according to Laptop magazine's "2014 Best and Worst Laptop Brands," Acer ranks near the bottom of the list (next to last, in fact). I was hoping to find a Lenovo or an Asus, which are the top ranked brands (other than Apple), although even those have their fair share of bad reviews, too.

I found an Asus Transformer Book Flip 2-in-1 Notebook PC with 8GB RAM, but the graphics card is an Intel® HD Graphics 4400. It's priced at $649.99, but it's supposed to go on sale on Black Friday for $599.99.

Thoughts? Am I better going for the graphics card, even if it's a lower rated machine?

I'm sorry.. but what dark corner of the internet did you pull that list from? o.o

This list is absolute bogus. Each brand has it's ups and downs.. I'm just at a loss of how to explain this to you. This chart is doing the same thing that most Automotive "fans" do. They have their favourite brand, and then they call out all the others. Like for example.. Chevrolet "fans" tend to pile hate all over Ford, and Toyota, Dodge, and any other brand that isn't Chevy.

What I'm trying to say is, ignore this list lol. Each model of Laptop; whether it be Acer, Toshiba, Apple, or whatever.. all have different Laptops, at different performance levels. Acer makes some Laptops that are Top notch. Then they make some that are Economy. Every brand does this, including apple.

...Now onto the Laptop you listed - No. Absolutely not lol. You should never go with integrated Graphics. Always get a computer with a dedicated GPU. There is no reason at all to go and buy a Laptop specifically for gaming, and get Intel HD graphics. That's like going out and buying a Semi Truck, and saying you're gonna take it F1 Racing. Two entirely different ends of the food chain.

I apologise if I seem hostile, as this is not the case. I am just highly affronted that you posted that chart, and used it for a reference. O_o

posted a message on Reving an old server. Questions on legal aspects.
    Quote from Mirugan»
My question is, if in the event we can't contact the old admins/owners, what are our legal standing when it comes to using the server's name? It was "Age of Citycraft" or "AoC" for short. My follow up question is, does having the "Citycraft" part violate Mojang's branding guidelines (Citycraft is technically the dominant subject of the title, and uses the "craft" part of the "Minecraft" name)?

If anyone has and answers/ideas/suggestions pertaining to any of this, it would be greatly appreciated.

    -- Miru

As far as I am aware, no. Having "craft" in the server's name in no way violates any rule, or condition that Mojang has us follow. I used to Co-Own a server named "WomboCraft" years ago, back in 2011. And even today, I still see servers all over the place, using "Craft" in their names. I've even seen Mojang Employees tweet about servers before, with "Craft" in their name.

In regards to the first part... um. If you are unable to contact the previous owners, I would imagine that due to their past behaviour (according to your description), they really shouldn't have a right in it, if they abandoned the server. If they knew that they would be busy with their life, they should have made preparations to pass things along, down to someone who could continue the server... since they obviously didn't, I wish to believe that they shouldn't even be able to claim that they own that particular name. It was their fault that it died off in the first place.

So again, as far as I am aware - You'll be just fine. =)

With that said.. I wish to broach another subject, one that you're most likely expecting to be bugged about lol. Would you mind if I joined the server? I quite like the idea of an older server, with loyal players that stick around. It sounds like it has a decent community. Quite unlike most servers I see nowadays.. with tons of bickering, griefing, and other junk.

Holy moley.. that Acer is nice...
You forgot to list the specs of that one.

    Here's the Acer:

    • Screen Size 15.6 inches
    • Screen Resolution 1366 x 768
    • Processor 2.2 GHz Core i7-3615QM (Quad-Core)
    • RAM 6GB DDR3
    • Hard Drive 500 GB SATA
    • Graphics 2GB NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M
    • Chipset Brand Intel, NVIDIA

I would go for this one, hands down.
It might not be a great gaming rig, but it is by far one of the best Laptops I've seen. I'm more of a Desktop lady, so I don't really look into Laptops very much.. that's why it surprised me so much to see the specs on this lil' bugger.

posted a message on Mobs DO spawn on high half slabs in 1.8
Um.. I know this is debated about a lot, but.. I think that Mobs cannot spawn on "Lower Half" Half Slabs. The high up ones, they can, because it is a normal flat surface that anything can be placed on. The lower ones are "In the Middle", and nothing can be placed on them, other than another Slab of the same ID.

So, if you're willing to go back, and re-do all that work you did.. make the floors "lower" half-slabs. =/

And "OP" is like "Opening Post". Basically when someone says "OP" in a thread, they are speaking about the person who created the thread; in this case - OP is you.

posted a message on Buying an Xbox for minecraft...help me get the best set up please?
Um.. before you read any of the below, I'd like you to keep in mind that I am very heavily opinionated, and most of the things I say (In any post for that matter) are extremely biased, and have little to do with actual general knowledge, or facts.

I honestly don't like the xBox edition of MineCraft, due to the tiny world size (You can only go to like 5,000 on the Coordinates, whereas on PC, you can go to 29,999,999 on the Coordinates.), and extremely limited customisations. Not to mention the content is far behind that of the PC edition.. but anyways; I'll try my best to answer your questions.

I played MineCraft on the xBox 360 in the past, and it ran very, very smoothly; so I definitely like it for that reason. I had an old "xBox 360 Arcade" system. The white one, with no wireless networking. However... it sounds like you are asking for the "best" that you can get. So I'll list what I feel like would be needed.

First, and foremost.. don't EVER buy a "slim" system. Those overheat so badly, that you'll spend more time trying to fix it, then you will playing on it. You should try to get what I like to call a "Fatboy". One of normal sized systems. I'm not too up to date with the current "World of xBox", or whatever you wish to call it... so I'm unaware of which version of the 360 is the "newest".

Just get an "Elite". Those are the black coloured ones... err.. okay, nevermind. They've started making normal 360's black as well.. lol. Um. But yeah, get an xBox 360 Elite, with four controllers (Just in case.), with chargers, and rechargeable batteries. (I would just get wired controllers, because I hate Wireless junk.. but that's me.)

Make sure to also get four of those "Keyboard" thingies for the controllers, for easier input when typing things like the World Names, or chatting on a server.
    These:

And obviously you'll need to purchase a MineCraft account for each person, as the Mojang and xBox versions are completely different things, with completely seperate fees. Also, each person has to have an xBox Live subscription to play "Online". Meaning MineCraft servers on the xBox.

That's really about it to be honest. So.. um.. if you break down my pointless rambling from above, these are the things you need:

    • - xBox 360 Elite.
    • - Four Controllers.
    • - An xBox controller charger, or two.
    • - Four xBox Controller rechargeable battery packs.
    • - Four xBox Controller "Keyboard" attachments.
    • - A MineCraft account for each person. (From the xBox Live store, purchasable via the xBox itself.)
    • - An xBox Live subscription for each person, if you want to play online. (Servers)

I'm guessing that everything together would be over £500+, so.. um. In all honesty, if you want to pay money like that, then be my guest lol. But I would really, really like to advise that you try to just play the PC version, and get your children to do so as well. It will save you a lot of time, effort, and money.
