Good to see that after years of development and paying for a game that is supposedly past it's beta stages, they still can't get reliable servers to handle all the players that use Minecraft.

For the past long while, I've been playing on a private Minecraft server with my friends. We have an amazing base, lots of cool stuff we've built together, etc etc etc. That's all fun and well, but lately I've been hungering for something a bit more competitive...

Basically, I'm looking for a "true" survival server. No silly rules against "griefing" or stealing. I want to have to make a well-hidden home that I actually have to work for to protect, and I want to be able to find other people's hidey-holes, raid their crap, and totally ruin them. HOWEVER, I'd like a server where flying, x-raying, etc is NOT allowed.

Basically, whatever is within the limits of the original Minecraft. I'm ok with mods so long as they are relatively sensible, and don't interfere with the free-for-all-ness, as described above.

I'm ok with whitelist and/or registration servers, especially if it means a better playing experience and not having to deal with hackers.

I know there are tons of servers out there like this, but that's the thing... I was hoping for some more pointed recommendations.

Thanks in advance for any help!

My router is set to forward port 25565 on BOTH protocols, and I have three seperate rules in the Windows Firewall: One for the program, and two for the port, one on each protocol.

I am using a wired connection already, but thanks for the suggestion.

I just recently got my laptop working again, so I suppose I'll try it out on it as well, but I'm afraid the result will be the same... we'll see though.

Edit: Just for the record, the two computers I have tested it on are Windows XP Pro x64, Broadcom NetLink Gigabit Ethernet (Driver version 11.7.1.1), and the other is Windows XP Pro x32, Nvidia nForce 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet (Driver version 73.3.0.0).

I am behind a Linksys WRT54G router, and an unmanaged Netgear switch, and I use Verizon DSL

When I connect via my private address, it is just fine, but I can not connect via my public address. That goes for inside my own LAN, as well as friends from outside. When connecting through the public address, a "connection timed out: connect" error is received.

I have forwarded all the proper ports and setup my router/modem correctly. I have edited the settings in Windows Firewall appropriately. I have tried both using a plain old IP address, and using a url via no-ip.org. I have tested the server on another computer within the same LAN, and had the same issue.

I have tried googling this issue, and have read many articles and threads, including from this forum, but none have been of any help so far. If I missed something, feel free to show me.

Does anyone know about this What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance.
