That could be a cool way to trade over some items. Though the whole part about changing codes puts me off a little. Seems too hacky.
It's exactly the same effect as copying the nether files from one world to another each time you switch worlds, but this method is automatic, requires no mods, and is "do it once and forget". It also prevents accidental duplication of items/nethers, because only one copy truly exists.
I tried to search for this but didn't find it posted already.
I found a very simple way to trick minecraft into using one Nether world for multiple worlds. Using a simple command prompt action (sorry, I only use windows), you can link two saves to one nether.
Let's say World 1 is your normal world you play in, and you have already entered the Nether in that world.
Now say World 2 is a brand new world where you have not entered the Nether, and you want to enter World 1's Nether instead.
You will need to open up command prompt (as Administrator) and enter these commands:
cd %appdata%\.minecraft\saves
mklink /D World2\DIM-1 ..\World1\DIM-1
This will create a symbolic link between the folders, meaning that whenever a program tries to read from World2\DIM-1, it will be redirected to World1\DIM-1 instead.
When exiting the Nether, you will always return to the world you came from. You cannot enter the other world. Because of this, you may want to label which world your portals are meant to link to, to avoid appearing in some place you have never been before. I created both my portals next to spawn, and luckily they both linked to a single portal in the Nether.
Chests work perfectly and as you would expect; if you place something in a chest as World 1's character, you can retrieve it as World 2's character.
To remove the symbolic link, browse to World2's folder. DIM-1 will appear to be a shortcut. Delete it and the link is removed.

@notch Slime spawning is broken! According to modders, the Y and Z axes are switched when selecting where they can spawn!

notch
@SCUPizzaBoy that would explain a lot! Thank you.

Yay, a fix might be coming soon! SCUPizzaBoy is my twitter name.
Because a Nether block is 16 Normal blocks, and because a Nether portal is two blocks wide, you must step on the correct block in the portal to return to your home world portal. If you step on the other block, you will appear 16 blocks away in your home world.
(Not sure if this is true, just making what he said clear.)
Hell Griefing: Go into hell in SMP, portal into someone's base. Steal everything, run away, and wait for a ghast to appear in their base and blow it all to hell. Then get banned.
Of course, mods can probably disable ghasts appearing in SMP.

Honestly, I just want to know: Are they bugged? Removed? I almost completely forget they exist until I see slimeballs in a Let's Player's video.

This is my floor:
It was there before our server installed Runecraft.
Now he have Runecraft.
Guess what happens when anyone right clicks any of the Obsidian in my floor?
COMPASS ACCEPTED, SHUFFLING YOUR OBSIDIAN AROUND, LOL
Could you PLEASE change Compass Rune so that air around the material is required, so that checkered floor patterns are no longer affected?
