    Quote from TXF

I really wish they'd start working on survival properly. Survival really needs some NEW stuff. Rather than aesthetic things and whatnot. I enjoy the new stone, and the new flowers, and biomes. But I'd really rather some proper gameplay changes. New hostile mobs, new tools/weapons, new storage blocks, etc. Things that actually effect survival players in a bigger way.

    1. Fix the way zombies work so a village can be made defensible. I like having a mine near my village/base, but it's annoying to have to come back up to the surface every 5 minutes so I can sleep and keep the whole place from being wiped out because the villagers are idiots and the iron golem(s) can't protect them.
    2. Maybe a craftable tool belt? Some way to create a non-abusive inventory expansion, such as one that only contains tools (no ores, food, etc.).
    3. NPC "players" would be interesting. They'd be rare spawns that have unique trades as well as randomly assigned play styles (resource gathering, homicidal, protective of a mine/house, etc.). Giving them a "house" with a few other NPCs (a family? A village they protect?) might be cool, too. Making a wandering NPC class could also help re-populate de-populated houses without having to go through the whole rigamarole with potions and zombies.
    4. Ruins. Villages, castles, etc. that had nothing to do with me letting zombies wipe out a bunch of NPCs. Rebuilding them could be fun, and maybe they could provide a unique habitat for new monsters?

1.8, The Update that made Villagers not lazy

Now they need to make them less suicidal (from 4 block heights or so).

I also find them in a "When danger's near or feeling doubt, run in circles scream and shout" mode every so often. Usually it's indoors over a staircase, but I've seen more than one of them sprinting in panicked circles out in the wheat.

Love the new stone, enchanting, etc.

Now can someone fix the villagers in the Savannah and Desert biomes to not act like it's raining 24/7? They all cram into one house and are REALLY hard to trade with when they're sprinting everywhere, constantly slamming doors.

Any new world where I start out in a jungle or tundra gets deleted immediately. I don't know why, but if those are where I start out, they seem to never end.

I see some people disliking deserts. One advantage is that they're good for monster hunting. You can see for miles and pick whichever mob you want to wreak havoc on.

Does anyone else have a problem after loading a 1.6.4 world into 1.7.2 that EVERY new chunk is an ocean?
I mean, I expected the whole world cliffs thing, that always happens, but... WHAT THE FURD

Ever since there was an update a year or so ago that made the land end in sheer drop-offs down to the ocean wherever I hadn't explored yet, I just say "the heck with it" and make a new world for each update to avoid stuff like that. Yeah, it's wasteful, but I like exploring, so there you go.

posted a message on New Village Structures, with Pics (Updated once again!)
Adding to this idea, I'd love to see some kind of "the villagers like this" aspect to the game. It could be something as simple as "villagers like houses made from X number of materials, X type of material(s), and/or X amount of usable space." This might boost your reputation, lower prices for trade, or just give the game something more to latch onto for NPC behavior (and keep them from crowding one building all the time).

Much like crafting new items, what if buildings could be crafted as well? Use X number of quartz blocks, X number of bricks, and 2 glowstone blocks and you get a Flower Shop, or whatever. An NPC would eventually move in and take up a trade that reflects the building's purpose.

posted a message on 1.7.2 Changing The World: Update and Play Now!
I'm having trouble with the NPCs in survival mode. From my own experience and the tickets at Mojira, it appears villages spawned in Desert and Savanna biomes contain a nearly permanently panicked population. Almost all of the NPCs in such villages I find since 1.7 went live (and I believe in the previous snapshot) run around like its raining or they're under attack. They'll crowd into one structure over and over, run in circles, and behave like a preschool where someone spiked the drinking fountains with meth.

At first I thought perhaps the location of the village in close proximity to the caves below was causing them to detect monsters and get scared (there were several openings I had to close, because the idiots would run down into zombie-infested darkness given half the chance) but after securing every opening and even thickening the ground a block or two in most places, the villagers are still bouncing around like ping-pong balls in a dryer.

At least they still reproduce, so I got them an iron golem, but construction is deadly to them. If they're not running in front of my tools, they're leaping off of any second floors I want to build unless I block all access to the stairs until I'm done building.

posted a message on Snapshot 13w25a Full of Bugfixes!
If zombie hordes are now a nightly event and they aren't stopped from spawning by lighting the land, then NPCs are going to become an endangered species. Even with iron golems running around, if I'm not helping with defense, I can lose the whole village in one night.

Lag is a little better with this update, but when there are three or more zombies attacking a town, I can't even direct my avatar where to go, much less swing his sword. And the zombies do attack. Every single night. Without fail. Forever. Dammit.

Yay, the snapshot got me again!

I journeyed to the Nether for the first time this world and found a Nether fortress! Huzzah! Let me grab some Nether Wart and a few blaze rods and head on back to the small stone-encased portal I made and... why is there only a wall? Where's the portal? Where's the crafting table and chests I made? Where's the stuff I left in the chests?!

I'm guessing a chunk loading error wiped out my portal and most of its protective cover? This needs to be fixed el pronto.

At least I was able to grab enough stone and chests from the fortress to make a few more chests under cover to throw all of my stuff in before I took a level 52 dip in a nearby lava pool.

I don't know if anyone else has run into this, but this snapshot just wrecked a desert biome village that's now down to just one librarian.

If I stay near the village, it's zombie horde time from sundown to sunup. I can go through 1.5 iron swords killing them all. I've got torches lighting up the surrounding area 30 blocks out from every building, torches lit on each structure, and even the mine below the village cleared out and lit. They still keep coming, an endless conga line. They'll even spawn aboveground right on top of me in well-lit areas (and I don't mean the ones that chance-spawn whenever you kill one). And this is on NORMAL difficulty.

Further, looking at the bug reports, the zombies may be passing through the walls of the village structures, making escape impossible. As the game progresses, the villagers and zombies suffer from rubber-banding. This makes the production of more villagers unlikely, as one tries to mate with another, but can't seem to cross the three blocks separating them without shooting back to his starting point, and the other one loses interest and wanders off.

I appreciate Mojang curing me of my Minecraft addiction for at least a week, but wiping out a whole village was kind of harsh, wasn't it?

I really don't care for this new hotel mod that Minecraft.net is pushing.

Unless I can build the Overlook hotel. That would be kind of cool, especially if any mob damage repairs itself. I refuse to get into a bathtub with a creeper, no matter how good-looking I'm hallucinating it to be.

posted a message on 1.4 Pre-Release Available Right Now!
After losing several more hours to this update, I've noticed something annoying: Occasionally, my maps will blank. In this new version, the map is drawn out for the whole area it encompasses, which is nice, but maps #0 and #1 suddenly went blank and I can't get them to re-draw.

Does swimming with them wash all the ink off?
