"Gaming" keyboards and mice are designed with the the sole purpose of separating people who don't know any better from their money.
Maybe for people with no knowledge of what product they are buying.
There are many products with high end price and low end performance, and I'm not here to convince you to change your opinion.
I buy a decent mouse with a faster polling rate so I can utilize my fast reaction time in shooters.
I buy a keyboard with no ghosting so I can use multiple macros at once time.
Conventional keyboards stop after just 3 simultaneous button presses. Having a keyboard with no ghosting lets me use multiple macros at the same time in Starcrat II that saved my ass.
If you've ever played any competitive games such as CSS, TF2, or Starcraft II you would realize that conventional equipment doesn't hold up.
Does buying an expensive keyboard and mouse make you a better player?
No, but it does allow the people who want to get better, do just that.
If using what you do now suffices for you, then keep doing so.
Don't bring everyone else down to your level just because you may have had a bad experience with a certain product.

Hmm i'm powering 40 LED's on a 9v battery with no resistors and they are plenty bright. You might have faulty LED's or try taking out that last resistor. Most of the time the recommended power is around 9v so i don't think you would need a resistor. (i may be wrong but it can't hurt to try)
