Run 6 (runs 1, 2 and 3 all ended in disaster - mostly creeper related - run 4 the villager glitched through the floor, run 5 was OK with villager on a half slab above the dirt but not real happy with the run) going now. Once you get a good start, this one isn't too bad, but getting that start is problematic. I used Detfig's holding cell/house with the fences and gates at block two. I've got a bed, got to the nether so I have cobble, torches and stone tools. Ive got a really big tree farm going with 9 of each tree growing, plus five more jungle saplings in the chest. (Tip - when cooking charcoal, I like to do 32 wood at a time with 64 saplings - when you are growing trees on this scale, the saplings are abundant and two saplings will cook one item.) I haven't gotten up higher in the nether yet, but right now I have enough wood to build my mob farm. It will be slow at first without water, but I'll make do with signs for now. Interestingly, using a the same design in Oceanblock, I'm getting a bunch of different records - the skeletons must be shooting the creepers at my kill chamber while I am collecting drops. This was certainly a pleasant surprise, and I hope it is repeated here.

One idea I had that I thought I'd share - I am slowly replacing the dirt with cobblestone in the biomes. Then, I'll put dirt down on top of the cobble to make a second layer. Won't completely stop creeper blasts, but it will allow me to make ponds and such in the biomes. Likewise, my farm area has a layer of cobble replacing the dirt, then I'm building village style farms up one layer so I can put in water when I get a bucket.

The only setback so far on this map is when I went into the nether for more cobble and discovered a skeleton in there - the knockback from his shot knocked me into the lava and I died before I could get out, thus losing about a half stack of dirt. Everthing else I lost was replaceable, but that dirt... :(

Pics when I get a chance.

I don't think they glitch vertically through solid blocks, though who knows. I never found out what happened to my snow golems but it's possible that they fell through the slabs, and I had some skeletons glitching up and down inside the solid blocks but I never saw any fall through completely.

The good(ish) news is, with enough other villagers and an enchantment table, you'll *eventually* get a silk touch shovel again. Eventually. Or you could look up the mcedit shops filter and make your own replacement if you're so inclined.

Or just go back to my last backup (again!) ;p

I think they are glitching down - there is a bug report on just this sort of thing that goes back to 1.2. Under normal circumstances, when the villager glitches down, he goes down one block and only his top half sticks up. But on Pancake World, there is no block below the top one for him to stand on, so I think he went on through.

Man - I really wish Mojang would fix the glitch through problem - I just lost my villager and I'm afraid he glitched through the single layer of dirt into the void. The enclosure I built for him was intact (and just like the one built by 5th Horseman). So I don't think anything got him.

I've been playing around with the design a bit more, and found a different way of placing the water so you don't need the trough in the center (put 4 blocks in 2x2 fashion in each corner, then put water source along all four walls except in those corners, remove the corner blocks and put a source in the corner up one block from the rest. If you do it right, you'll have four water flows that meet in the diagonal). I also found that you can create a water powered kill channel with 16 blocks of lava blades that kill the golems - the iron and roses wash the rest of the way into a hopper/chest. No more having to use piston golem killers or dropping sand on them. I've got 19 blocks of lava blades (5, 7 and 7) but they always seem to die at block 16.

I finally got mooshrooms after a loooong time - four of them - and I made my favorite trap for slimes (just two blocks high inside so I don't have endermen spawning yet), the trap works on its own and I get slime balls in my chests underneath (not many but this is enough to craft leads).
I got many cats as soon as I grew grass in the jungle biome, but no wolves, no, they don't like my map :( . I also had to kill half a dozen horses, but not a donkey yet.

If the horses saddles become craftable again in the next update, you might want to add "breed horses" (saddles are needed for this) to the challenges list along with "craft/use dyed hardened clay" and "craft/use a lead".

Remember that one of the villager trades can be a saddle, so you could tame/ breed horses even without crafting saddles. Or, he could put a saddle in a chest in the nether (wanna be fiendish - put the chest with the saddle and maybe a couple other valuables next to the blaze spawner ;p).

I'm not playing this world (the idea of there only being one layer of dirt and nothing else beneath me triggers my acrophobia something fierce!) but I am enjoying it vicariously through 5th Horseman's, Megatrain's and other's videos.

Talking about the glitches, I've noticed that glitch with farm animals in another world I'm playing - the cows and chickens just keep gel itching through the fences. At one point I had about ten cows in a pen, and a few days (game time) later, there were only three left. I keep finding them wandering around the countryside, even though I penned them all up initially (it's a survival island and I started out with only four). I expect that with chickens, since they can occasionally fly over fences.

Yes. I actually made those villagers using a "shops" tool in MCEdit.

Note: Their starting trades (paper and redstone) are the same, but any subsequent trades will be random.

    And thanks! :)

Y'know, IF you do a 4.2 version (taking advantage of the 1.6 stuff, maybe), you might want to give the second villager a less common trade. With my MegaVillage, I have several offering redstone. But if the second villager offered, say, a silk touch book, that would be awesome. That way, you couldn't use it until you got enough villagers to harvest quite a few iron golems for an anvil. Just a thought.

Interesting LP - I am surprised that you can get water to stay and flow in the Nether. And I like way you lit the portal and how you trapped the lava in the Nether. But, wow... This map REALLY depends on the player getting a tool with silk touch!

BTW, does anyone else think the ghasts sound like they are saying "hurt meeeee!"? ;)

I just finished my new home and thought I'd post a screenshot of it - Yeah - I used all wood for it instead of sandstone, since I don't have that much sand to make that much sandstone, and I may need it for some other things first. I might start changing out the wood for sandstone, or I may just leave it like this.

As far as animals spawning in this map under 1.51 - I'm running 1.51 and I've gotten plenty of animals spawning in - enough that I've had to cull them back to two each a number of times to try to spawn in mooshrooms, ocelots and wolves. Haven't tried spawning in the slimes yet, but that will be pretty soon

Thought I'd post a few more screenshots of my platform. I've made a lot of progress today (had a day off and got to play for a few hours). The first pic is of my farm - you can see the pasture on the left, the tree farm in the center and the crops on the right. Got everything in now except for Netherwort (not sure where I'm gonna put that). The rectangle in front of the pasture is a squid tank - haven't gotten any to spawn in there yet, but I'm hopeful).

The second shot is another view of the MegaVillage. I'm getting a stack and a half of iron every time I go down.

The next shot is my mob farm - I'm getting a ridiculous amount of drops from the monsters in there.

The last shot is my Nether Portal room. It is located over the End Portal. I've cleaned out the resources from under the platform, and built a small basement there. I put my enchanting table under there - only a couple of bookshelves so far, but I'll buy more pretty soon.

Next major project is to rebuild my house - right now it is just a little 5x7 basic house, but, well, you'll just have to wait and see! ;)

One last update before bed - I got a diamond pick from one of the villagers so I won't have to use the diamond under the island for that. Haven't been so lucky as to find one to enchant it with fortune, but I'm not really worried about that. The Mob Farm is almost complete - just need to let the water flow and put the roof on it (half slabs so nothing spawns on top). I put down a 15 x 15 platform one block underwater for the pasture (I like to put a layer of blocks under the soil so I don't lose it if I decide to move it) - working on getting the grass over there from one of my biomes. I built a small temporary house, but it won't be the final one - I'll leave the design of my final house as a surprise for now. I'm building a room under the original island to make collecting the diamond, lapis and obsidian easier - once I have the obsidian, it's Nether bound for some lava and much needed cobble (just about out of coal, so I'll need some charcoal soon - and there's a villager who will trade for coal or charcoal, so that's a bonus!).

Can you play the game without Villagers? I got far into it and zombies overan me... And my villagers

Nope - gotta have the villagers for trades and to generate iron golems. There are four villager eggs in the cache above - that's about your only option (besides restarting). That's why I used the Mega Village design - the doors are on the outside so the zombies stay outside and don't spawn in with your villagers. Also, I always sleep through the night unless I get caught by sunset. So, there are two rules I go by in this map - put the doors on the outside and never use half slabs for the floor under the villagers (They'll glitch through).

And the Mega Village is virtually complete - just have to add the second layer of doors along the two sides (I've got two layers in front and back and one layer along the sides) and it will be totally finished. My first golem spawned in the NPC ring (I had them locked in the front section so the game must have figured the center of the village from the middle of that section), but after I killed him, two more have spawned in the golem area and washed down the kill hole - Got enough iron to start using that instead of wood for tools. I've also got an NPC who trades emeralds for iron, so that will work well. I messed up the water source (as you can see in the pic), so the first thing I made was a bucket - it has been fixed since I took this screenshot. Now it's time to start work on the Mob Farm.

Got to play some more this evening - I've been working on the Mega Village. The first pic is looking at the Mega Village from the center of the island (on top of the NPC "jail":

The next shot is looking over the Village from just outside where the front gate will be. The central golem area is still flooded with water (I built it one block below sea level so I don't need a bucket to make the water flow - I'll just fill everything but the water source blocks along the wall with sand, then clear it out from the center out - the result will be the same as if I placed it with a bucket, but no bucket needed). With the water still there for now, monsters shouldn't be able to spawn there - not that I'm working through the night. As you can see, I have the NPC ring almost 3/4 of the way around the golem area. I'll wait to add the doors after I've gotten the NPCs in the ring:

The last two shots are the tunnel leading to the golem kill chamber I built it with steps so I don't have to jump all the time:

After I have the Mega Village finished and I'm starting to collect some iron, I'll probably start building the monster farm, and I'll start framing out the food and animal areas. The first two biomes I'll fill with dirt will be the swamp and mushroom biomes - I'll leave the jungle and taiga biomes till later so I don't get a bunch of wolves and/or ocelots spawning in. And if I build the pasture first, my cows, pigs, sheep and chickens should start spawning in there.

Nice you have some screens? I juist staret collecting Dirt under the middle of The endless ocean

Sure, but there isn't much to see yet...

The first shot is my bed and NPC lockdown:

Next, this is the arm that will lead to the MegaVillage. You can see the ice filling the Taiga biome:

To the right of that is the spruce arm that will lead to the farm. I put a layer of spruce planks in there to remind me where the biome is until I fill it in with dirt. I will eventually fill it in and put a fence around each biome:

Next is the jungle wood arm that will eventually lead to my house:

Finally, here is the birch arm that will lead to the monster farm:

My plan is to make the various structures and/or their platforms out of the same material as the central stripe of each arm - thus the MegaVillage will be made from oak, the monster farm from birch, the platform for my house from jungle wood and the platform for the farm for crops and animals will be from spruce.
