I submitted an update to my own app on November 6. The MCPE update was submitted on the 5th. My app update is now available on the App Store (as of today). Apple says that they put all submitted apps on a queue to be reviewed. Therefore, it must currently be under review. The only reason it isn't available yet is because it probably takes longer to review than my relatively small app.
Hi,
I have a mine in my MCPE world with a vertical entrance. I built it so that I can fall the 50 blocks down and then I land in water, which goes down through a separate tunnel from the surface. Currently I'm using a ladder to get back up. Does anyone know of a faster way to climb vertically?
iOS runs Objective-C and Android runs Java. The UI of MCPE is therefore written in both Objective-C and Java. Both platforms also support C++ for everything except the UI, so the rest of the game is written in C++. Minecraft (on the PC) is written entirely in Java, and yes, Java and C++ are very different. Updates are mainly taking so long because everything needs to be rewritten in C++.

The craziest mountains ever, multiple caves all over the map, loads of floating stuff.

That's what I said. Both run C++, except for the UI which is written in Java and in Objective-C.
