posted a message on Windows Phone?
Microsoft do appear to be moving down this road; multi-platform gaming, that is, but I don't think it'd work for Minecraft, simply because the worlds can get too big. Generally the sort of cross-platform data that goes across live is simple "What is the other platform doing?" sort of traffic.

Maybe a regular client might make it's way to WP7, but I imagine developer interest would be low at the moment, so I wouldn't get your hopes up unfortunately.

If you want a "world in the cloud" just spin yourself up a private server; with only one person accessing it, it won't impact your system performance much if at all, then you can connect from wherever you like, provided you can get the MC client, of course.

posted a message on Grass doesn't grow?
Grass spreads from block to block, I believe the requirements are:
    - Existing grass block in sunlight.
    - Dirt block within 3 blocks in any direction also in sunlight.

This means that once your grass is gone you can no longer produce it, so always make sure you have at least one grass block left!

EDIT: Woo, ninja'd by about 20 people. >_>

posted a message on How fast can you die?
Barring lucky lava spawns and creative mode, I think the fastest would prolly be to spawn on sand/gravel, dig three down and fill in the hole while you're in it. I estimate 3 seconds plus however long it takes to suffocate.

You can check out my big castle/city for some ideas in the video below. It's large, easily expandable, and has 4 zones. Keep watching for some stuff that my friends have done too, they've done some awesome stuff.

    This.

Also, what texture pack are you using?
(I like the way the ghasts look)
Yeah, it's a pretty heavily customized painterly, which is why the soul sand looks funny. (So my colourblind butt can actually see it, haha.)

I would make so much soup....

As soon as the update came out I made a good mushroom harvesting device in the regular world, so I was already stocked up on soups long before I realised what was happening in the Nether, a couple of others that play on the server still might need some though, so they'll be well catered for, haha.

posted a message on (Video) Nether being eaten by mushrooms.
With the Nether being introduced to SMP, we've been spending a fair bit of time collecting glowstone and lots of Netherrack for some projects. And as a result, there are about a billion mushrooms, just *everywhere*, and I thought I'd share the sheer scale of the problem, haha.

Hopefully we'll see a review of the growth conditions in 1.7, then we can begin the clean-up process, hehe.

    Enjoy!

Using Redstone allows you to only use one spot, instead of sweeping back and forth. This is probably a good thing.

The way I see it, Redstone just makes it easier, and there's really no reason not to have it.
Fair enough, seemed a bit elaborate is all. Still, either way beats making one of those damn water conveyers, that's for sure, haha.

of simply spamming in a dark room seemed to work just fine without any redstone. Are blocks automatically updated in SMP but not in SSP or something? If it only works in SMP I'll have to update my video description.

posted a message on Very Fast, simple and cheap Flower/Seed farming in 1.6.6! (Video)
nice find, but why fraping the video during the night ??
I'm underground, as the technique requires a dark area. I pumped the brightness up as much as I could without making the menus look silly, but yeah, that was as good as I could do sorry. Still gets the point across though.

I've put an annotation in to clarify this bit, I didn't atually show the roof clearly in the video.

Thanks for the comments guys, hopefully no-one will need to go exploring for red or yellow dye ever again, haha.

Avast peoples! I stumbled across this method by accident and realised that it didn't seem to be all that well known yet (There's still quite a few people building water conveyers and stuff for grass/flower farming, etc) so hopefully a few of you will find this useful. It simply involves using bone meal on grass in a dark area, and then bam, instant items!

Maybe I'm just searching for the wrong things but there doesn't seem to be any videos of this method on youtube, so I thought I'd quickly put this up, enjoy!

Honestly though, if you stop playing Minecraft for a couple of months and then fire it up again to check out the updates, you'll get a bit more mileage out of it. I played during Alpha 1.2ish, then I started again in Beta 1.4, and I'm thinking of taking another break pretty soon.

I found a pack of 8 or 9 the day before 1.6 released. I've only ever found 1 other one apart from that in almost two months, and I've done quite a lot of exploring too.

Seems to have very random spawn mechanics.
