1: Thanks PorkyFish14 this is awesome!!! :Diamond: for you!

2: Is it possible to get a beta MC server jar? (more specifically beta 1.3 [not beta 1.3_01]) I know this question has already been asked in this thread but i was just wondering if anyone had anymore info about it.

3: What is the difference and/or purpose of a minecraft.json file instead of a minecraft.jar file? Srry if this is a stupid question i was just curious. :)

    1. You're welcome! :)
    2. Sorry, Mojang doesn't host any. You'll have to search around yourself. I'm not allowed to provide one.
    3. The .json files go inside the ~\.minecraft\versions\x.x.x\ folder (ex. ~\.minecraft\versions\1.7.10\1.7.10.json). They give information to the launcher.

Thanks Porky! At first I thought this was illegal, but if they are hosted by Mojang, it's fine. :)
I come here mostly because of the server jars, I don't think I can get them anywhere else.

You're welcome! Server files are what I expected most people to use this for, now that everything else is built into the launcher :)

PorkyFish14, you are my hero :) It was impossible to get the 13w18c elsewhere, even at mojang they have it only with a launcher, which doesn't exist to download there .. so this place is the only one to get it, because i wanted the first texture for the coal-block ;) thank you so much!

    You're welcome! :)

No it´s easy ! just go to bin folder at .minecraft and then put the jar file there . Make sure you have the old 1.5.2 launcher

Also the old 1.5.2 launcher can by downloaded from minecraft.net

Please actually read things and get facts before you go posting nonsense. 1.6 jars and higher can only by played in the new launcher. This topic is only for people who know how to use these, because if you don't, then I doubt you need to be here.

Just some extra info for the "Make Your own Snapshot Link" section of your post. at snapshot 13w16a, Mojang switched from hosting them on assets.minecraft.net to s3.amazonaws.com. However, the older snapshots are only found on assets.minecraft.net, not on s3.amazonaws.com, so your links do not work for snapshots older than 13w16a. To fix this, you could add the following link to that section of your post.

    For snapshots before 13w16a:
    http://assets.minecraft.net/<version>/minecraft.jar

    Thanks! I didn't know this. :)

Whenever I try to download a Jar, it appears as a winrar download, and when I open it it becomes a media player file. Whats going on!?

    *facepalm*
Now that I've said that, let me help you.
First, it shouldn't say WinRAR, it should have a Java icon, but this does not mean it downloaded wrong -- it means for some reason you set them to open with WinRAR. (Don't deny it!! Whether it was an accident or not, YOU DID IT.)
    Secondly, YOU DON'T OPEN THEM!!!
I cannot stress that if you can't do this entirely yourself, without asking a single question on this topic, YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE USING THESE.
READ THE TOPIC, AND LEARN HOW TO USE THEM.
    (OR DON'T)

    Thank you.

The new one allows you to have multiple directories and play with multiple updates without having to rename jar files. And having a launcher download it for you is more convenient if you trust mojang to do its job.

    1. Yes, you can have multiple directories. We've said this.
    2. You still have to move and rename jar files for mods.
    3. Having a launcher download files for you is NOT useful for everyone. For just a version, yes. For use with mods, no.

This may sound dumb to all you clever people out there, but I'm trying to make a private server for myself and 8-10 friends, I've downloaded a server .jar , but it doesn't work, is it easier to use a .exe file?

This thread is not for server support. Please ask elsewhere.
    Quote from MrCODXD
Wait, so there is no way of getting an alpha server jar?

    Not that I know of.

this is so useful for modded servers

    Yes, yes it is :P

you can get a fresh jar file by deleting the version folder of the desired release and relaunching it by selecting the version of minecraft you want then exiting, go back to the directory copy and paste, then follow all the other steps.

also i would like to note that you may need to exit out of minecraft comletely and launch it again before it will show up in the version selecter

Yes, that is true, but this post is for the download itself. Check the bottom of the post; there is a link to a tutorial I have made.
I will improve the tutorial as it is fairly outdated.

Sorry to bother you, but where can I get the server files for beta MC? (I want an Alpha server but they didn't have servers in Alpha I think)

You will have to Google that. I can't post links here, but I don't see anything wrong in finding them on Google, even if Mojang doesn't like it.

    HELP ME PLEASE

First, I don't use Magic Launcher so I might not be able to help much. Secondly, I'm going to guess it's a problem with a zip file. The jar should be well... a .jar file. Check on that, and disable mods. Try it with just the jar file, no mods, no nothing else.
