    Rubi still didn't have a gun.

    This was a problem.

    Bullets whizzed past her, parting the air as they passed. She was still weak from transforming into her gaseous state a few minutes ago, and she soon made the harsh realization that she was on her own for this one.

    She ran out from behind cover, diving towards the Automata. It would be hard to take an Automata Hierarch in single combat, but it was a risk she had to take. She elbowed its center of mass, setting the machine off balance, and followed up with a sweep kick taking out both of the Automata's ankle joints. Kicking metal hurt, but it was nothing like the alternative.

    The Automata temporarily incapacitated, Rubi bent down and severed its central Aether pipeline, killing it instantly.

    [[Oh, BTW guys, I added some info to OP about the Automata because I realized I really didn't flesh them out enough]]
    As Rubi walked through the ruins of Moscow, she gazed at the fire and destruction all around her. She saw a blue light a few blocks away and headed for it, hoping that it might mean salvation.
    She was wrong.
    Upon arrival, she found that it was far from salvation. It was an Automata spaceplane that had landed here. She tried to stay out of sight, but it was too late. The Automata pilot spotted her and started shooting.

    Rubi looked up in fear as an Automata Strider stepped into her range of view. It wasn't long before it started shooting. Rubi changed her form to a gas and its shots went right through her. She jumped to the top of the Strider and pulled out its tank of Aether on her way down, depowering the Strider.
    Rubi: Yoink.

    [[Any time, I was just setting up a few things like rules and stuff]]

    Rubi stood up in the rubble of Moscow, eyes wide with shock. The city she had been hiding in for years was destroyed in an instant. It made her glad that now she was free from authority, able to do anything she wanted. She skipped along the flaming streets of Moscow, a smile working its way across her face as she gazed upon the last of her home.

    [[Cool]]
    [[Now accepting apps, also added technology and rules sections]]

    [[Now that I'm accepting apps, might as well make one...]]

    Name: Rubi
    Gender: F
    Power: Immateriality (Can dissolve her physical form into a gas, allowing her to evade bullets and slip through small openings). Lasts nearly indefinitely, but the longer she is immaterial, the harder it is for her to control the gas. If she loses control of the gas, it dissipates, killing her instantly.
    Appearance: Due to exposure to growth hormones, she grew to be 7'3" tall. She has blond hair and blue eyes.
    Personality: Lacks morality entirely. She is a purely objective thinker who won't do anything that doesn't benefit her directly. Needless to say, she isn't really a people person.
    History: Rubi wasn't born but created in a lab for testing. She was given a Human Growth Hormone to see its effects on small children, and she ended up growing with rapid speeds. At age 10, she was physically equal to an 18-year-old. Soon after her eighth birthday, she escaped from the HGH lab, showing no mercy in brutally murdering everyone who imprisoned her there. She spent the next 3 years in hiding from the law, finally able to come out when the Automata attacked.
    Location: Moscow, Russia
    Notes: Has no last name, as she named herself after escaping from the lab.

    In a flash of flame, my existence began. My base compounds were fused in a fraction of a second, and, as simply as that, I was. At first, my mind was the essence of confusion, of chaos; as was my body. When my cognition gathered itself, I came to see, or rather, feel my surroundings. I was trapped, surrounded by rock. A cavernous nothing was all I knew for a very long time. In this vast span of time, I pondered. For while I was confined physically, my mind was free to roam to whatever thoughts it pleased. I created worlds in the ether of my imagination that are more realistic than the worlds in which some live. In these worlds, I created and tested new technologies, using the creatures I created as avatars. I created, and subsequently ended, four such worlds. After every world is ended, I improve upon it and recreate it. Except for the last world. Something happened there that I can't exactly explain. Let me tell you a story about this final world. It will be a story of errors and of greed. It is also a story of heroics.

    I am not the hero.

    -BACKGROUND-

    The year is 2205, and humanity is riding on the wave of another great scientific boom, with huge discoveries in military technology such as negentropic projectiles and negative friction. But all good things come to an end. An unknown invasion fleet has appeared on the horizon, and within minutes Earth's security grid had ruptured and within days almost half of the earth was under the iron grip of the invaders, known as Automata.

    When I say iron grip, I mean it very literally.

    The invaders aren't exactly alive. At least by a biological definition. And yet, they aren't robots. They're metal casings for a gaseous substance not known to man. This gas, called Aether, has been observed to have quite an odd effect when humans are exposed to it: it allows them to distort reality around them, giving them abilities like telekinesis and time warping.

    Such Glitches, as they have come to be called, are humanity's last line of defense against this threat. You are one of them.

    -LOCATIONS-

    Laputa - A flying city and the base of command for the United Nations Security Force (UNSF). Floats 1.5 miles above sea level in the North Atlantic sea.
    Hive - An underground complex built by the Automata for construction of new individuals. Located 250 miles west of Novosibirsk, Russia.
    Maginot Line - Not one place specifically, but a line of fortifications surrounding the most vital areas on Earth, separating what the UNSF is able to protect from what it can and must leave to the Automata. Protected by orbital defense platforms, land-based anti-aircraft cannons, and other defenses.

    Note: All major modern-day cities still exist, albeit with larger populations.

    -ENEMIES-

    The invading army, called Automata, come in several classes.
    Myope: The Myopes do the dirty work of the Automata as well as much of the front-line combat. This is the most common class, as well as the easiest to kill. Usually armed with unknown light weaponry.
    Strider: 2-story-tall, three-legged metal war machines, Striders are built for orbital drop into cities. From there, their purpose is to raze the city entirely. They are heavily armored and armed.
    Hierarch: Usually lead Myopes into battle. Serve as combat strategists and contain more Aether than most Automata.

    -TECHNOLOGY-

    Military technology has made some serious jumps, mainly in the area of personal weaponry. New things are possible that weren't earlier, such as negating friction and gravity and reducing entropy. Listed below are some of the types of weapons you may see.

    Gaussian weaponry: Having replaced combustion weapons almost entirely, Gaussian weaponry fires balls of neodymium using magnetic energy. It is entirely silent and powerful, but its battery has to be recharged often.

    Flamethrower: Functions exactly like a modern-day flamethrower, except with higher power, more efficiency, and longer range. Still fairly close-range weapon, though, maxing its range at ~50 feet.

    Plasma caster: Projects ultra-high-heat plasma with magnetism. Functions similar to a flamethrower, but is both more powerful and expensive.

    Syntropic weaponry: This rifle is the same as a Gaussian weapon except that it charges each bullet with a huge amount of additional energy which is used by specialized bullets to negate entropy, making energy loss a thing of the past. These are far more powerful than Gaussian weaponry, but come with a huge cost in energy consumption.

    Magnetic shielding: Not a weapon, but a means of protecting from projectiles. Slows down metal projectiles, especially effective against Gaussian weapons.

    Gravitic shielding: A shield It functions as a compact negative gravity field, slowing down incoming projectiles significantly. Usually used on spacecraft, but is occasionally used on individuals. Far more expensive than magnetic shielding, but protects against all projectiles, not just magnetic ones. Also far more efficient than Magnetic shields.

    Mass driver: A ground-mounted high-power weapon powered by magnetism. Can destroy most unshielded human spacecraft.

    Frictionless bullets: Not a weapon in of itself, but bears knowing about. These types of bullets don't slow down on impact, instead continuing to move through a substance. This allows for incredibly high precision at the cost of damage. They are mainly used to combat heavy armor.

    [???]: An unknown type of weapon used by Automata that appears to sap Aether from the user in order to shoot projectiles. Highly powerful, high-caliber gun, but not usable by humans. Is colloquially known by some humans as a "Glitch gun", but an official name has not been devised.

    Name: Lucas Ques
    Username: KaBling
    Gender: M
    Power: Fourth Dimension (AKA Reality Distortion) - causes character to be able to go through projectiles and thin walls without harm, but only lasts around 10 seconds, and makes you look like you're lagging.
    Appearance: Black trenchcoat, 2 gun brown gun holsters on the right side, green eyes, no tan, a tuxedo (no bow tie - regular necktie), a small brown pouch on the left side.
    Personality: Alert, cautious, slightly over-reactive, loyal.
    History: Born in 2188, he had a rather weird childhood. His father left him at the age of 7, but came back at the age of 9. His mother cheated on his father, but his father didn't mind. In fact, the other man got along pretty well with the father, albeit with a slight bit of awkwardness. At the age of 16, he applied to join the army, but failed in the physical tests. He was still accepted though due to being excellent with small arms and covert ops. After around 6 years of service, he applied for an officer rank, but it was turned down as they wanted him to be a spy. He was sent to the Hive for espionage after surviving a bombing by the Automata to kill him. He was accidentally exposed to the chemicals while in the hive.
    Location: In the Hive, not deep in it though.
    Notes: High value target due to ability and being a spy.

    Name: Rubi

    Location: Moscow, Russia
    Notes: Has no last name, as she named herself after escaping from the lab.

    Name: Raze
    Username: Solawind
    Gender: Male
    Power: Existence outside time and space; Raze exists outside time and space causing him to become illogical at times, Raze can only exist when he does and cannot properly exist within reality. Raze will often appear out of order, living out his life in the wrong order for example Raze from 2 years may exist on one day and the next day Raze from last Tuesday could be there in that time and place. Usually Raze cannot interact with anything. In this state Raze cannot be killed by anything in the timezone but he also cannot interact with any objects that do not have a significant gravitational field.
    Raze has NO control over his power, meaning that where he jumps to is completely random so he can't really use it for anything useful.
    Appearance: Raze (Usually) has Red hair (Dyed) with a white fringe, though at some point Raze re-dyes his hair to black(Assumed at age 25). Raze in his 17-19 year old state wears a Black trench coat over a white and grey striped shirt, but seemingly loses it around 20.
    Personality: Raze is very much hopeless, often lacking motivation but this is only the case sometimes. Raze's personality may change depending on 'which Raze' you come across, but usually he is always kindhearted.
    History: Link
    Location: London, England and Moscow, Russia.
    Notes: Raze age 18-18+3 months wears the Magnetic pin from the paper on a glove, this allows him to interact with his right hand, but after this it runs out of battery, Raze presumes it will require a lot of power to activate again, and he believes that he might be able to find more of these gravity devices to make a larger suit of them so he can interact with the world until he can find out how to get rid of this power.
    Raze can interact with himself at all times meaning that he can't simply put his hand through his head or chest cavity, and anything that he interacts with using the glove can interact with him also (For example eating food.)

    Name: Lillian Tyler
    Username: CloudJhi
    Gender: F
    Power: Space. She can quickly close distances by warping the space around her, or extend the time it takes for passage by elongating it.
    Appearance: She stands at a 5'4 tall, with a petite build. She has raven black hair with a single stripe of silver, and her eyes are a silver-steel with blue strips running through them.
    Personality: Very talkative and fun loving, she would always go the extra mile on any objectives.
    History: As an adventurer type like her father, she often went out for days or nights on end without coming home. While her parents often worried over her, she always came back safely. In time, as she grew, her expertise on going around places had been called upon by the local task force, albeit with a slight bit of hesitancy. She would have gone on and taken a part time job as an officer then, but she was still 16. Two years later, the Automata attacked. She escaped, but her parents weren't so lucky. She's had a tad bit too many close calls from her insistence to stay in London, thus giving her the Glitch.
    Location: London, England
    Notes: Knows how to handle a gun from security training. Gets around places easy, even easier now with her powers.

    -RULES-

    No Godmodding, Powerplaying, or Metagaming. See this thread for details.
    Be respectful. This may say that it's a "serious" RPG, but that doesn't mean you aren't supposed to be friendly.
    Have fun. Or don't. You choose.

    -RANKS-

    VIP: Allowed 1 extra character
    Moderator: Allowed 2 extra characters, as well as the ability to control NPCs as if they were characters.

    -STRUCTURE-

    This RPG is structured more like an ARG in that story is driven by ingame characters conversing directly with players. This is entirely done by the narrator, although the narrator's ingame identity will be revealed later (or whenever someone figures it out).
    Note: More information about characters, locations and plot will be revealed as the story progresses. The plot seems thin now, but I have everything planned; it will thicken.
    Note: This is the first release of this, so if you have suggestions for what could make this better, please feel free to post them. I'm practically masochistic when it comes to constructive criticism.

    Quote from Nouish

    Because the ItemStack class is final (nor does it extend any other classes) you should not be checking whether something is an instance of it (because it can't be).

    One approach could be something among the lines of

    if (getItemInSlot(103).itemID == Item.specialArmor.itemID)
    {
    // Stuff
    }

    or

    if (getItemInSlot(103).getItem() == Item.specialArmor)
    {
    // Stuff
    }

    That is assuming 103 is the correct index and all that, because I am not familiar with the minecraft mechanics.

    Thanks :)
    For the second one, shouldn't it be .equals(Item.whatever)? I didn't think comparative operators worked for objects.

    How would one check for an item in an armor slot? I have tried before, but Minecraft crashed with a nullpointer. Here's the code I had (from memory, so it may be wrong):

    if(this.getItemInSlot(103) instanceof ItemSpecialArmor)
    {
    //whatever it was that it did; I'm too lazy to type it out
    }

    Oh, I see. You need to include the load() method. So it would look like this:
    //mod_Test.java

    package net.minecraft.src;
    public abstract class mod_Test extends BaseMod
    {
    public static final Block test = new BlockTest(160, 0).setHardness(2.0F).setResistance(5.0F).setBlockName("test");
    public String Version()
    {
    return "1.4_06";
    }
    public mod_Test()
    {
    test.blockIndexInTexture = ModLoader.addOverride("/terrain.png", "/test.png");
    ModLoader.registerBlock(test);
    ModLoader.addName(test, "Just a Test Block");
    }
    public void load()
    {
    }
    }
