It's in beta for 1.8. Mumfrey doesn't put them directly in the op because the idea is that if people aren't willing to find it linked somewhere in this thread, then they aren't going to be able to deal with the bugs. (though there are few that I've found.) Anyways the easiest way to find the betas are by going to the op and in the downloads section, click on the link by older versions. Then click on prerelease, which is the fourth from the bottom.
Thanks for responding jryx :D. My problem isn't so much willingness, but more that I simply spend too much time Modding as it is (probably more then I spend playing) and that searching through everything for tiny little details just adds exponentially to that time.

Funny story. I was going to post a "make the oceans easier and more worthwhile to explore" topic, but it turns out someone already thought of it. A lot of someones. This is, what, the 76th page?
Anyway, I love you guys. I love oceans in real life, so it's sad that they're currently so worthless in Minecraft.
The thing, though... People have suggested things like submarines with harpoon launchers, underwater villages, diving suits, diving bells, diving helmets, oxygen tanks, krakens, pirates, ghost ships, whales, glowing coral, realistic pressure, tides, etcetera etcetera etcetera. These things are fun on their own, but not only are some of them huge programming challenges,but, well, adding so many complex elements might spoil the fun of Minecraft, you know? I consider MC to be beautiful in its simplicity.
Um. Ahem. Anyway, I'd like to just condense what we're all thinking into one basic, minimalistic package of what Oceancraft ought to be:
BARE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR OCEANCRAFT:
Lots of ideas are workable, but my favorite is the idea of some sort of diving helmet. I think the simplest way to do it would be to use the crafting pattern for a basic helmet using glass blocks, or a combination of glass and iron. I imagine it would look a bit like you were wearing a goldfish bowl over your head. While wearing the helmet, your oxygen would go down really slowly, lasting you 5, maybe 10 minutes. Since regular helmets can already be enchanted with "Respiration", maybe these diving helmets could be enchanted to extend your air time?
I think it wouldn't be that hard to code, since the code used to wear pumpkins on your head (yes, you can do that) could likely just be restyled to work with a diving helmet. As for slowing down oxygen consumption, that's just changing a variable.
At least one new underwater mob
Sure, we have squid, but you can't eat them or anything. I'm thinking some kind of basic fish, maybe the size of a chicken, that you could get meat from. Again, bare minimum, and I have nothing against edible jellyfish or something.
Coral and sponges
Coral because a Minecraft ocean would just need at least one unique building block, you know? Sponges because if you're going to build an enclosed space under the sea, you're going to need to empty it of water.
These would be enough for a determined, none-too-picky player. But for real ocean lovers...
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR OCEANCRAFT
At least one HOSTILE underwater mob
Like a shark or an orca or an eel or a giant squid or something. This isn't a "bare minimum requirement" because for some players, just keeping from drowning would be enough of a challenge. But it would sure be cool.
And if you're going to have underwater hostiles, you're going to need...
An underwater weapon
Like a harpoon or a spear or a trident. A harpoon sounds like the best idea, especially if you can go and retrieve it or use string or something to make it retractable.
Underwater terrain features
Someone posted another topic about both how beaches should make a comeback and how ocean terrain should be fixed in general. That person had the right idea. Me, I love the idea of a deep trench or an abyssal plain.
