I just bought minecraft and when I play it there is no sound at all.

    Could someone please help me.

    I am on 1.7.9 btw

    1. Your speakers are turned on, yes? Can you hear audio from other applications, say, YouTube, iTunes, anything with sound.
    2. Minecraft's volume meters are not set to 0%?
    3. Reboot your computer
    4. If none of that helped, we'll probably need to know the brand and model of your computer to give you an audio driver to try.

Does that issue only happen when you try to install mods? If so, it's a problem with Forge or whatever other mod causes it, and you should see them for support.
Please remove the mods, and see if Minecraft will launch. If not, try these steps:
    1. Open Terminal (Press Command-Space and type Terminal, press enter. should bring up a white window with black hacker-y text).
    2. Run the following command in a terminal:
      mv ~/Library/Application\ Support/minecraft/ ~/Library/Application\ Support/oldminecraft
    3. Open Minecraft.
That will put your Minecraft files in another folder, so that Minecraft will re-download its core files, which have probably been messed with by whatever mod you tried installing. Your saves and other information can be retrieved from the "oldminecraft" folder in ~/Library/Application Support.

Try resetting your Minecraft files to a relatively blank slate.

Press your Windows+R keys, then when the box pops up, type
and press enter. In the window that pops up, find ".minecraft" and right click it. Select rename, and rename it to something like "oldminecraft". Run the launcher again, see what happens.

If that doesn't work, I recommend reinstalling Java itself. Go to Add and Remove Programs in Control Panel, and uninstall anything with Java in its name. Then reboot, and download a fresh copy of Java 1.7 (64 bits, preferably) from http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre7-downloads-1880261.html

    Install, reboot, try minecraft :)

You can restore your old saves, servers, and options by going in to the "oldminecraft" folder and copying the applicable items into the newly created .minecraft folder.

    Hope it helps :)
