    That would be awesome. I wanted to try the Torch from the Extra Utilities mod (makes no mobs spawn for 64 blocks) but I couldn't find a version for 1.8.

    I really like this mod, but I don't like that mobs keep spawning in my torch light. My castle keeps getting random monsters appearing and attacking me. Is this a bug or is it programmed to be this way? Is there something I can do besides laying invisible blocks everywhere?

    Creature Trainer Mod


    The Mod:

    This is an idea to make a mod where you catch and train mobs. It combines some of the methods used in the mods for "pet bats" and "doggy talents" as well as many other mods that have interesting and unique creatures with awesome abilities and features (i.e. mo' creatures.)


    -New mobs spawn in their respective bioms. Battling them down to low health will result in their surrender (i.e. a kneeling or prone animation) A tool, like a spirit dagger, can be used at this point to claim the creature, adding it to your inventory in the form of a battle orb at which point it will be treated as a pet. If the player continues to attack the mob will be killed normally.


    -You can name and level up the creature by interacting with the orb. This function would be similar to the "pet bat" mod, though it will include "talents" like the "doggy talents" mod. (i.e. riding, fighting upgrades, mining improvements, and fetching)


    -You can deploy a mob by pressing "q" with the battle orb selected, ejecting the orb to the ground. Here again it would be similar to the "pet bat" mod because it will summon the pet mob while leaving a command rod in place of the battle orb in the inventory. This rod can be used to give the pet commands as well as revert the mob back into an orb (i.e. signal the pet to attack by right clicking another mob, signal it to sit by right clicking on the pet itself, or to return by throwing the command rod to the ground with "q" after which the item is replaced by the original battle orb.


    -By battling with other mobs, the pet will gain levels and become more powerful. It will also gain skill points to be assigned through interaction with the battle orb.


    -If the pet is defeated it will return to it's "surrender" animation, becoming immune to further damage but also unable to attack or move. It can be retrieved and healed by the player.


    This mod would be great in multiplayer, as it will allow players to challenge each other to creature duels and other competitions. It would make exploring more exciting and mining more fulfilling depending on the types of mobs they can encounter and travel with.


    Additional ideas:

    For this discussion the new tamable mobs will be referred to as Battle Mobs (BM)


    -There could be an elemental or 'Type" aspects to the BMs. BMs found in the desert/mesa could have fire aspect, Lake and Ocean BMs would be water, Nether would be demon, End Portal would be Aether, Woods/jungle would be nature, Caves would be earth/stone, Winter would be ice/snow, Savanna would be life/beast, and so on.

    It would be cool, though a great deal more work, to add other small realms that represent the elements (i.e. Fire, water, earth, air, life/light and death/dark) in these realms the creatures would spawn more readily, and perhaps some incarnations could only be found there (i.e. a greater earth golem instead of a normal earth golem). This idea lends itself to elemental summoning as a core basis for creature creation. It would also allow for some fun boss fights.


    -The spirit dagger could be crafted by collecting and combining the essence of the tamable mobs. This is done by killing the mob completely, and the drop will be the essence. The portals, if included, could be crafted in a similar fashion.


    -One mob at least should have a glowing and a flying function. It should be the size of a bat with similar flight patterns around your head. There could be one of each element that glows a different color and gives you different adventure bonuses (i.e. chance to mine two resources or granting sword crit bonuses or ranged attack bonuses.) They could be called wisps (i.e. fire wisp, earth wisp ect). They could also be the mobs that drop spirit essence.

    This is a great mod! I have some ideas to add to it.


    You've made the horses bigger and meaner, now you should consider making them smaller and utilitarian. For example, a fairy horse with butterfly wings that can fit through a door way or at least a skinny (1 block wide) passage way. You could make it blink (teleport) a short distance.


    I like the Hippocamp, but I think you could make it better by adding a new wand or hooves that let you breath under water. It could be a bubble wand that lets you breath under water as long as you're mounted. That way you could enjoy the diving capabilities much more fully.
