So basically, i am making a custom adventure map, and i want to have a unique function in it, what it is is the checkpoint system, in this adventure/survival map you will have to gather materials from chests and quests and such, but then at every geographical point in the map i would like to have a "checkpoint" portal system, so with every time you reach a new city or geographical landmark, you can go through a portal (in the town square or whatever), and it will lead you to the nether (in a room FULL of portals, leading to different cities).
I'm trying to do this to make a quick teleport system to different cities that you've already visited (every portal will be elevated 2 or so blocks, and upon reaching a new city, you go through that city's portal leading you to the nether portal room, there will be a lever or a button, extending a staircase, that city is now accessible through that portal. the first city you spawn in will already have a staircase. this way, one could travel through cities through the portal system)
the only problem is that i dont exactly know how to direct portals to certain portals in a small "portal room" so people wouldnt have to go looking for portals in the nether, that would destroy the whole purpose of this system,

I recommend you build paths to each portal. You can use minecarts to make the path faster. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful but if you want to make it work like you described while making sure that everyone can use your map without mods; then only Notch can help you.
Thanks for looking at my first custom map! This is a hard open map with various objectives for you to accomplish. You must fight a large amount of monsters as well as mine resources and find upgrades in hidden chests. Also remember that this is an adfly link so wait 5 second :biggrin.gif:
