ok, here's what I did when it happened to me: I took 1.6.2 completely out of the versions folder, and my modded profile was the only option that the launcher had. I kept the 1.6.2 folder elsewhere for safe keeping, but for now this is the solution that works for me.
alright, one thing not mentioned, is whether or not ctm supports animations. for instance, would it be possible to animate a depressed pressure plate? I suspect that it isn't, but I hope to the contrary.
after a little bit of experimentation, I have found that it is indeed possible to animate ctm textures. it simply requires another properties file for the tile itself.

I know of a way to make a delayed sequence, but it will require a repeater for each lamp. you simply place redstone on the lamps, and one more solid block above the redstone. then you use repeaters going into each solid block above the lamps, in the sequence you want them to light.
from what I know, unless a recent update has changed something, you can't make snow golems with redstone anyway. it's already been found that snow golems spawn when you place the pumpkin, and not if you push snow into the appropriate places with pistons, or an enderman places the pumpkin. I repeat, the only way to make snow golems, is by hand. I don't expect this to change at any time.
I've just had an idea on the topic: you place a pressure plate inside the doorway to the individual houses, connected to a monostable circuit that will power a sticky piston just in front of your doorway. in this way, zombies can't get to the door with a block in the way. just a thought, and probably too much work to be worth doing entirely.
to anyone that reads this, I suggest this simple solution: be vague. refer to a 3x3x3 area as "rather small". or a 15x60x25 area as "a good size". just be creative, and guess at the size of your creations. but don't use "huge". it's been done to death.
