Heya! Just to update you on where I'm at with everything:

For the past couple of months I've been trying to tidy up the code and fix some major bugs with the mod. I was begin to worry that I'd have to remove things like the encylopedia from the mod completely, however I like it too much as a mechanic. I finally had a breakthrough meaning it can stay! I have also been working on a few birds. Time for me has been very minimal so I only currently have a heron and blue-footed booby, though there will definitely be more in the next release.

I'm currently working on an update for 1.8 as that is the 'base' version for this mod, however updates will follow for 1.7.10 and then I'll begin to see on upgrading to 1.9/1.10.

I have a lot of birds and other game mechanics that I'd like to add and unfortunately there is only one person (me) working on this mod and I'm currently at my second year of university so updates might be inconsistent. Sorry about this, but I'm excited to have everything updated and working again.

Thank you for all your support!

You underestimate the stupidity of people. Adblock wouldn't be so popular if there weren't a need for it. You are knowingly using a service that makes money off deception and getting people to download things that can harm their computers. By extension you are no better for supporting this practice.

A large portion of people here are children, and when they are looking to download something like this pack and see a big "download now" button on their screen, they are going to click it. A download window pops up and they download whatever crap is prompted. Next thing you know they have a virus, trojan, or worse, ransome-ware or a botnet. If you could prevent this very real possibility with one simple action, and no person would be subjected to that risk via one of your links, why would you not support that? Greed.

That was also addressed 2 years ago as well. The textures are individual files so you are perfectly able to resize those that don't need to be 16x and keep a higher resolution for those that need it. Individual block textures don't need to be 16x, and eat up 4x the memory for absolutely zero gain. things like torches can be kept and whatever resolution is necessary so they don't look funky. This fact hasn't changes in over 2 years.

Have I done something to somehow offend you? I don't understand why you are acting so hostile. There are hundreds of texture packs and mods out there and hundreds of them use adfly. I could be criticising you for using adblock and decreasing the revenue of sites that host adverts. And greed? What the heck? You don't see me coming to your place and going, oh, you can't go to work. Why not? Oh because greed. That's why.

And may I refer you to the point I made earlier: It'll also be another project to add onto my huge list of projects and one that probably wouldn't be worth it due to the minimal amount of memory that it is going to spare.

Adfly links refuse to work when you have adblocker on. Which may sound crummy on my part for denying you link revenue, but the fact that adfly is known to have malicious ads and phishing type links, I think it is more crummy on pack makers to knowingly use a deceptive service such as adfly, putting their potential users at risk for their own gain is shoddy behavior.

Also, this pack STILL uses 16x16 images for textures that only need 8x8. This is bad practice and needlessly eats up memory. The pack could drastically be improved by using appropriate texture resolutions. I brought this to your attention almost 2 years ago.

I was thinking of not even bothering to replying to that first comment because snarky comments deserve snarky remarks. I'd love to remove them, I truly would, but currently I'm just hoping that computer users are sensible enough to realise that it's the top right button to click. Also adblock does more bad than good on the internet.

You did indeed tell me this. However this pack is 8x8 for a style and consistency and for no reason other than that. The old old old forum post run by Leostereo had a true 8x8 version which looked pretty shoddy because of the dimensions of blocks like torches. It would be possible to bring the 8x8 one back now due to the fact that custom models exist but things like GUIs could never use those resolutions. It'll also be another project to add onto my huge list of projects and one that probably wouldn't be worth it due to the minimal amount of memory that it is going to spare.

I have made some textures that would fix the GUI errors I found.

Thanks! I've replaced them with those two files. I'm not really a fan of the brewing stand though because of the places where you can clearly see it's three pixels wide not two :(

Pavo a have a question as you add more birds will they be for 1.7.10 or higher?and i have a suggestion you can add hawks and falcons there's is one species of them the the red tailed hawk and the peregrine falcon.

AI Peregrine falcon - when it sees a pigeon or smaller bird it dives and then kills it then it picks up the meat to a nest.It can be tamed with any meat execpt fish and you can hold it with a glove that is made of leather.you can tell it to attack other players or mobs or animals.

AI Red tailed hawk - It chases down its prey then swoops in very quickly then catches it then it is killed. They live in small groups up to 5-2 they can also be tamed with any meat except fish like the falcon you need a leather glove to pick them up and they can attack what you tell them to. It can land on cacti with out getting hurt

The falcon has 15 health and deals 4 hearts spawns in forests,{except roofed forests}.Savannahs, mesa's,snow biomes, mountains, taigas and are rare in jungles. The hawk has 17 health and deals 5 hearts spawns in forests,{except roofed forests}.Plains, mesas, deserts, mountains, taigas and savannahs. These are my suggestions. Thank you

They will be, yep. I play on a 1.7.10 server with my mod, so it'd need compatibility xD
And well. I have an awesome falconry idea in mind - I just want to make it really cool before I go ahead and code it. I've been absent a bit as I've been trying to tidy up some of my existing code and remove the glitchiness before future updates.

    Hey Pavo,

never sawn birds flying in formation at the sky? :)

Exactly like this would be cool... not just 7 birds like on the picture, if u can handle it that they change positions from time to time aswell.

Maybe u can make an engine that drains the energy of the leading bird more than the bird after him etc. so everytime when the energy is below 25% for example the birds infront fly slower that the stronger birds (full energy ones) can go to the front and lead the formation for a while.

And of course sometime there are swarms with hundreds of birds and sometimes just a few. So there you can make it random aswell. For example when winter is getting close alot of birds flying.. during summertime just a few etc.

If someone got addtions feel free to add to my post to help Pavo out :)

This variation would be cool with that mod, so your mod checks out what kind of season is..:

No, no. Of course I've seen birds flying like that! I'm just asking for ideas on how you'd think this mechanic would work. I think it'd look a bit odd if suddenly all the birds around you got up and flew off. How would the birds go from flying on the ground to being in a V formation? Is this something you stumble across? Is this just a shape in the sky? How close would you be able to get to these birds?

I'm not sure whether to skip 1.9 and work straight on 1.10. When I ported the code into 1.9 there were 1,329 errors, so it's gonna be a fun experience when I get around to fixing it xD

For the sake of asking is there a program that you recommend for modeling? Having an actual model to show in the OC would go a long way towards making the mod feel more tangible.

I use Techne as it's what I learned when I first started. But there's a lot of people that prefer a mod called Tabula :)

I love this mod! However, I've got some suggestions that I think might make it even better (that may have already been made... I scrolled through about 10 or so pages before stopping...). And, to make it a tiny bit easier, I've categorized these suggestions.

    Config Options:
~A config option to change how often birds lay eggs. After I get three or more owls/kiwis, it takes about 5 minutes to fill up all four birds nests I've placed for them. With pelicans, it takes five minutes for two pelicans to fill up two nests. But even with 5+ goldian finches, I get maybe one egg every ten minutes? I'd do this myself, but... I only know how to change options, not add them.

~Maybe Phoenix birds and Phoenix eggs can only be found in the nether. I don't think this is already a feature, but it seems fitting. Then a config option to enable/disable that.

    Blocks/ Items:

~Perhaps there could be bird seed, which draws ALL of the birds in and which you can heal birds with. And then, as I saw somebody mention before, we could have a bird feeder that you fill with the bird seed.

~What about bird cages that vary in size? For example, you could have a small, indoor bird cage that takes up about a block and can hold one small bird (such as goldian finches magpies). Then a slightly large bird cage for the larger birds, like seagulls and owls. Then maybe a huge cage that could be like a bird pen that you can walk into, 4X4 blocks or so, built in two parts that you place on the ground rather than crafting together. How you could build each pen/piece would be in the first picture.

    Birds:

~Hunting birds (such as hawks, falcons, eagles, etc) that will attack if provoked, but can be tamed if not provoked.

    ~Sparrow

    ~Goose

    ~Doves

    ~Crows/ravens

    ~Parakeets

    ~Robins

    ~Tabby (I think that's what they're called... I had one when I was younger.

    ~Cuckoos

    ~Mockingjay

    Other:

~Tameable owls (and other birds, but really just tameable owls)! And maybe once they're tamed, they can hunt mice, bringing a "raw mouse" to the owner.

I really really like those ideas! Thank you very much. I'll definitely consider those config options. And yes, the egg drops tend to become quite crazy after a while (which is why if you have harvestcraft installed you can turn the eggs into lovely food! Cassowary omelettes, yum!), but I'll see what I can do. Fun fact also: Phoenixes were meant to spawn in special rooms in underground caves, however sometimes this would generate in a pool of water and the Phoenix would die. I never once thought about having them generate in the Nether which would solve all my problems!

As for the rest of the suggestions I love those too! I'm currently trying to rework a few things. An update that adds other blocks is pretty long overdue (birdhouses, hummingbird feeders, perches etc). So I imagine that'll be the next update. Thank you once again!

Oh! And tameable owls might be a thing soon.

    Quote from Snipe13051»

Sounds great but i'm also still waiting for another nice feature.

In my opinion that would be more insane and give minecraft a new feeling.

Hah! I don't know if you could describe in a bit more detail what you'd like this to look like? In my head, all I can think of is this looking very weird. Like do 7 birds wander up to each other and then fly off into the sky? Or is this something that you see passing in the distance? I'm really unsure how I'd incorporate this xD

    Quote from Crafty_Angyl»

Pavo_Reality, I have a question. Awhile back I suggested taming Kingfishers for their fish and I stated that in China they used tamed Cormorants for fishing as an example of something similar to show that it's actually somewhat realistic. What I want to know is if you have plans to add tamable cormorants or if I could use the comment as the base for a new mod? I'd like to make a small, simple mod like mentioned in the comment just for fishing cormorants if you have no plans to add them yourself. I have trouble finishing projects so if you have any plans like this I'm not touching it.

I've always been nuts over the idea of hunting type utility pets. Why isn't anyone interested in them? Even little things like why don't mods with mice change the cat AI so they aggro mice the way ocelots aggro chickens? But fishing birds has been something of an obsession since I first saw your kingfishers. :)

Heya Angyl! Well, I most likely will be adding cormorants as they are some very funky looking birds. How soon? I do not know. Since the last update I've only managed to model two birds, the heron and the blue-footed booby. Although I really love the idea for taming them, I don't think that AI would come soon. Do feel free to start your own mod though - I'd love to see how it turns out!

Hey I recreated the bird suggestions (In a new canvas) just want you to go check out and approve / disapprove :P

    There's probably loads of mistakes because I'm doing this 3.45AM because I cant sleep ;_;

EDIT: I've sorted a lot and put some bird suggestions under more generic family names :) In my logic that could be of help to you but who knows, its 5am and I'm tired xD

OH MY GOODNESS! Thank you so so so so so much! That must have taken you forever?! I know how difficult it is from the times I've gone through and purged all the duplicates (because people don't read xD). That's going to be so helpful! Thank you!

Hiii! I honestly have no idea why this is happening. My guess is that the betweenlands has its biomes declared as 'Forest', which is the biome that a few of my birds spawn in. I'm not sure if I can do anything, but I'll see o.o

Yes! They do. Though if you have Mo' Creatures installed the birds don't spawn as often, but that's not something I'm currently able to fix.
