There are already parrots in the game. Maybe you should rename your parrots "macaws" as they are actually called.

Haha, so my parrots came first and I asked on my discord community if people would want them to be replaced and they said no. There's five species of parrot present in total; four macaws (scarlet macaw, blue and yellow macaw, military macaw, hyacinth macaw) and a parrot (the african grey). So it wouldn't be correct to call them all macaws, but parrot is still valid :)

But that's just a very odd and strange explanation. Despawn code is relatively simple to implement and has nothing to do with how many mobs there may be. There is nothing in the configs that allows despawning to be implemented. There is no external mob control mod that can implement it. This is something you need to fix as your birds, wonderful as they are, are wrecking long term worlds by eventually taking up the whole spawn cap. Literally, nothing else is allowed to spawn, ever, once the world becomes filled with birds.

I wasn't aware of what you were asking, which is probably why you didn't get the answer you expected. You said that nothing else spawns apart from the exotic birds, so I was offering a solution to that problem: use an external spawn control mod/edit the config. Coding an alternative would be far too time consuming for the little amount of time I have free. I didn't realise you were talking about wanting the birds to despawn; Minecraft mobs don't despawn, and you asked if my mobs acted the same way, which they do. You're the first to mention it, but if you want a despawn option then I'll add one in.

    Quote from Yoriven»

Well I just had the strangest thing happen. XD I tossed an egg to get rid of it and it spawned four boobies. Was so surprised, I immediately rounded them up to keep them.

You must have been very lucky!!

Do Exotic Birds naturally despawn? Im seeing examples of worlds where they don't despawn and gradually fill up the spawn cap - making it so that nothing else spawns at all unless they are killed? Is this a fault in the mod or maybe interference from another mod?

Hi! So the birds act the same way as passive mobs in vanilla Minecraft; they won't despawn. There's nothing I can do about this due to the amount of different mobs this mod adds, but you can edit the config files, or use an external spawn control mod to fix that.

Oh, any chance we could get a female variant for the cardinals?

    Possibly :P

    Quote from B_Wither»

    It is just a suggestion.
How about making the flying birds flying from the usual sky?
I am bothered that birds do not fly too much except when players approach.
For example, if birds are jumping in the sky daytime, owls fly quietly at night and stop on the trees, it will be a good ambient.
    Sorry I'm bad at English.

They should do both of these :)

Just uploaded a new version for 1.12.2! It adds a config that allows you to specify how often the birds should lay eggs :)

Enchanting table author here. The line of code from my mod referenced in the crash report is attaching an ItemStackHandler capability to an EntityLivingBase. I'm not sure why that should be causing problems for this mod but if there's anything I can do to help please let me know :)

Oh awesome, hi! I haven't really had a chance to look at any code yet, but I suspect it's trying to attach those capabilities to the 'fake' entities I use in the bird encyclopaedia. I don't know why it's only just occurred, and not on installation of the mod though, so there might be something else behind it D: I'll see if I can replicate it, and find out what's causing it.

    Quote from Balentay»

Yeah, I figured it out c: I was expecting them to drop feathers, so I had something set up to collect them while I afk lol!

Anyway, you'll be happy to know that I still love this mod! I've even hatched a couple of phoenix! They're black and I love them. What are the requirements for black phoenix btw? Is it because they hatched in a cave? (That might be something to consider is adding how they're hatched once they're registered to the books btw)

    Glad you figured it out!
That's awesome you managed to get two black phoenixes. They're meant to be the rarest of them all. They'll be black if they hatch during a full moon, so you've been very lucky with your timings (or are playing on permaday :P)

    Hi Pavo!

I LOVE your mod and am so very glad to have it in 1.10.2 but I have a couple questions about it.

I noticed in the encyclopedia that it says birds are 'tempted by' or 'bred with' certain things like seeds, but it doesn't say that's what TAMES them. I have an angry Toucan trapped in my bedroom that isn't being tamed by seeds. It will eat one if I can sneak up on it, but that's it. Do birds tame with different things than they breed with?

Secondly, my encyclopedia is acting weird. It worked perfectly for me when I first made and opened it, but after storing it on a bibliocraft bookshelf my JEI menu now opens overtop of it. Is there a way for me to correct that?

Thank you for your time with my questions AND the mod!

Thank you so much!! If a bird doesn't say 'Tamed by', then it cannot be tamed; the only birds that can be tamed are pelicans and parrots.

As for the encylopedia issue, I have no idea. That's an issue with JEI and not my mod. I think there might be a button to hide it perhaps?

The Egg Analyzer machine will decrement (Fire Fox doesn't think that's a word...) a stack of unknown eggs past zero (i.e. into negative number territory), which allows infinite analyzed eggs. Just a bit cheaty, if you ask me. So with one unknown egg you can get up to 64 analyzed eggs with a stack of redstone.

Are albino peacocks supposed to not be able to mate? I found one in the wild and it eats seeds and the mating-hearts will show up but he wont mate with another normal female peacock. I guess that makes sense though so they're extra rare

Also I couldn't find much info about the albinos in this mod, so I was wondering, are peacocks and phoenixes the only birds that can be albino?

Okay last thing, I'm trying to hatch an albino phoenix above cloud level, but I keep getting normal phoenixes, is it random or am I doing something wrong?

That's correct yep. Albino peafowl aren't able to breed. The hearts issue is a bug that will be fixed in the next update. As for the phoenixes - anything above y=127 should be fine. If that doesn't work then there may be something that needs fixing.

Hopefully by the end of the month, if not sooner!

    Quote from Yoriven»

I managed to hatch that one! I think you may just have to go higher up- I know I hatched mine up as far as I could go, but I think if you just go high enough that the biome name changes (or disappears) from the F3 information then that ought to be good?

Unless it's anything like the desert or water phoenix. =/ I have successfully hatched an icy, cloud, and end phoenix but every attempt to hatch the desert, water or black one winds up being a normal phoenix and I can't figure out why. Pavo said it was determined by biome, but ocean and desert biomes have repeatedly given me normal phoenixes and I don't even know where to go for a black one- I've tried down by bedrock and in a roofed forest but neither one worked.

I figured out what was going wrong with the desert and water phoenixes. It wasn't registering variants of those biomes, so only 'Desert' and 'Ocean' would work. 'Desert Hills' or 'Deep Ocean' wouldn't. As for the dark phoenix - that one isn't biome specific, but instead hatches at a full moon! :)

    Phoenix question-

So, I was super excited to learn that there were more types of phoenix now, but I've tried about three times to hatch a water phoenix naturally and it keeps hatching as a normal one. I've tried... in a chamber in an ocean, on top of a block of sand on a beach, and placing it directly in water in a river. What would it take to get one of these birds to hatch blue?

I haven't tried for any others yet, so I don't know if it's just the water phoenix that is being this stubborn.

Ooh that's really weird. The phoenix should hatch in ocean biomes. It doesn't need to be in a chamber or anything. Just being in the biome should suffice.
