posted a message on Better Sword Fighting

Wow, people on these forums can be rude...

Anyway, I feel like this suggestion is actually a pretty reasonable start to a cpmbat overhaul. It doesn't try to do anything complicated or try to turn Minecraft into an action-RPG, so I like that.

I think reducing the attack rate while increasing area of effect is a decent core idea. Yes, some details have to be worked out, but it would seem to me that giving the sword a AoE would actually help even the odds in online combat if lag is an issue (since you don't have to be quite so precise).

posted a message on [30+ Supporters] Better Squids (No, no calamari)

I like this suggestion overall. Nothing flashy, but will improve the squid. Only thing I would change is the baby squid - instead of making them growing, just leave them small. Maybe even make squid spawn at different sizes depending on the amount of water they spawn in. I know I hate seeing 2 meter long squid spawning all over the place with their stupid looking arms sticking out of the water.

Basically, I hate squid because they look and act stupid so anything that helps is an ok suggestion in my opinion.

Maybe we could just use redstone to make jukeboxes replay? Just thinking out loud.

That's what I was thinking, too. Make it so if you provide redstone power to a jukebox, it remains playing indefinitely. Might be simpler than the NBT tags or whatever. Regardless, I do support infinite music discs as a concept.

posted a message on Logs- a new fireplace asthetic

I have wanted a decorative fireplace for a long time. Something that looks like fire without actually burning down my house :)

Personally, I'd just say that the log burns indefinitely - what difference does it make? It's just for looks anyway and it's harder to get than a torch because you'd need flint and steel to light it.

The only way I would think it should run out is if you wanted to use it for cooking, in which case, yes, you would need for it to use up wood to be balanced with a furnance.

    So partial support.

posted a message on Better villages
    Quote from JerryAttrick»

If nothing else there should be more villages. Perhaps individual houses as well - as in miners, fishermen, hermits, anything.

Yes, villagers are amazingly idiotic and your presence within 250 blocks of them makes things dangerous for them. The best thing you can do is rush in during midday, trade, and rush back to your solo house more than 250 blocks away.

Personally, I'm fine with the quantity of villages in vanilla at this time. I can always find one with a little effort if I want to. I would just like to see the quality improved. I like a lot of the concepts in Millenaire (a mod) and would like to see a simpler version of that integrated into vanilla. But I digress from the original thread.

posted a message on Fruit Trees & Thirst Bar [Bug Images Fixed 06/02] [Hydratation Revised] [New Images] [New Table Explanatory]

I appreciate the effort that went into this suggestion, but the only part of it I support is the apple tree. I always thought it was weird that apples drop from oak trees and there's no way to grow an apple tree.

But the rest of the suggestion with the extra food and drinks as well as dehydration does not appeal to me. It doesn't appear to be a meaningful challenge, but rather just a nuisance to deal with. What I mean is that under most circumstance thirst will never be a problem - just remember to keep a glass in your inventory or eats some carrots or whatever else you where already eating. It doesn't improve or, really, even alter the existing game at all.

posted a message on The Mythical Boarealis

Haha, puns... Ok, I like the idea reasonably, but I dislike giving the creature a special ingredient drop. The mooshrooms don't drop a special mushroom or anything.

I'd say that the Boarealis acts like a normal pig, but also has a chance to drop a random color wool. So it's sort of a sheep/pig combo that is fun to get, but not essential.

posted a message on Far cliffs - A new end of Minecraft

I don't really know what this suggestion is asking for. Do you want to have end of the world cliffs? Or do you just want cliffs.

If you just want to have random cliffs added to the game as a technical biome perhaps found within mountain biomes, then that's cool. I pretty much always support more world generation options for variety.

Otherwise, I don't support the idea.

posted a message on minecraft accessory's

As other people have mentioned, there's already other ways to achieve the functionality of the suggestion without changing the game. Therefore, I feel the specific details of this idea would make a reasonable mod for the people that want it, but not something that belongs in vanilla.

posted a message on New use of gears

As other people said/asked, this idea is basically a clock generator, right? Sure, a clock generator can be accomplished with a redstone circuit, but this is more compact so it's not a terrible idea.

Overall, I like the idea of a clock generator, but I kinda feel like that's a misuse of a gear block. I would want a gear block to do something cool that can't already be done in game.

posted a message on Better villages

I don't think this is a bad idea. I don't care about balance or anything. So what if a player gets a free anvil? Does it really change anything? Personally, I'd like to see a village system overhauled anyway because currently I don't even bother with them. It's boring/tedious babysitting a bunch of idiotic villagers.

posted a message on Lava Biome

I'll say that I don't think that an entire lava biome is required or even wanted. So don't support the suggestion as is.

I do think that a lava _technical_ biome would be alright though. I'm not sure how surface lava is generated already - it might be a technical biome as far as I know - but I wouldn't have a problem if the existing surface lava is made a little nicer/cooler. Maybe some obsidian or ever a partial nether portal.

I know that in my own game worlds, I have created mini-nether regions on the overworld with a working portal to make it look like the nether has broken through. That's just something I like to do, but it might be cool as a rare spawn in vanilla.

posted a message on Shear chickens and get feathers.

I understand the reason behind this suggestion, but I think the better solution isn't to add a new mechanic, but rather to increase the drop rate of feathers. Make it so a chicken drops 1-3 feathers instead of 0-2 (current drop rate). I think just adding one extra feather would make a huge difference.

Side note - I also think that cows should drop more leather.

posted a message on More Metals

Personally, I do not want anymore tiers of metal, armor, or weapons. The current system is fine as it is if you look at Minecraft in the abstract - wood/leather/stone are the starter materials, iron is the everyday workhorse metal that is always useful, gold is the specialty metal used rarely, and diamond is the advanced, hard to get material. There's nothing else you can really add that isn't just a variation of those.

Sure, you could add copper, but that would just be an unused middle step on the way to iron and diamond. It wouldn't add anything new. Or you could add a rarer, better metal than diamond, but that would just add power creep and make diamond meaningless other than a specialty material like gold.
