Minecraft really isn't suppose to be realistic. Yes it has realistic concepts, but really, you start off the game by punching things. You can hold 2304meters3 of gold blocks on your person. Need I continue?

No support. Minecraft is pretty much as "realistic" as its going to get at this point. You could always try it out as a mod first if you really want it.

Changing chunk size won't do anything if you're still loading the same number of blocks. (Not to mention changing chunk size isn't even feasible. Each chunk stores the blocks inside it, you can't just go resizing them without breaking everything.)

If switching to tiny didn't do anything, then changing chunk size sure as heck won't. Only thing I can recommend is Optifine.

    Okay thanks.

I can't see any reason why this can't be added in the game at this point. I only think they haven't added it yet is they have been focused on improving other aspects of the game. My guess is it would take some work to write out not only that the chunk size needs to be a cube from now on. But also that it needs to break up all the existing chunks in preexisting worlds and turn them into cube chunks.
Just like when they were going to re-write the lighting engine. They had to delay it because it wasn't as easy as they had first speculated.

I personally would like to see this as a possible future update though. Increased world height and new map editing. Maybe even the "Sky Dimensions" along with it. Or the floating islands game mode. I definitely support this.

I've highlighted the word "modern" in both these posts red to illustrate the blood I feel I am losing from banging my head against this particular metaphorical brick wall.

I think you might have misunderstood what I was implying. First off, I said "more" modern. I did not say modern. Second, I said "like" guns. Both of these go to show that I did not mean that all guns are modern.

Firearms have only been around for roughly (roughly) 1000 years. This being said, swords have been around for roughly 4,000 years. So swords have been used in fighting a lot longer than guns. Also, when firearms were first invented, the mortality rate for the user was higher than the people the gun was pointing at. It wasn't until the 14th century that firearms "started" to become reliable. The 1800's and 1900's was when the gun went boom, (pun intended) and this is when it started to replace the sword, which was still being used as the reliable "gentlemen's weapon" because, up until this time period you never truly knew if when you pulled the trigger your gun would fire or not.

This is why people refer to guns as "modern" weapons. The sword/bow has been used way longer than firearms have been. So on the large timeline of history, guns are still relatively new.

Back to the topic, I am fine with guns being added to MC. I only ask that they are able to be taken out in-game. So that those who would rather pvp with swords/bows can do that.

I personally would switch between the two. I think it would be really neat to have guns in MC. But i also enjoy the way fighting is right now in MC too. Just as long as you (the server manager) have the ability to choose how you want pvp to work on your server, then I support MC guns 100%

First off I'd like to say that I'm a huge gun supporter and I absolutely love guns, rifles, and anything that goes boom.

Personaly, I'd rather not see them in the game though, no, thats false. I'd like to see it as a new gamemode where they add some more modern things like guns and the sort. That way you can have both the more origanal minecraft, and when you want to shoot things minecraft style, you can do that too. This way you have a choice on the game you want to play. But even if it isnt a different game mode, I really don't care. My beleif has always been, if you dont like it, then make a rule saying you wont use it on your server.

As far as violent video games efecting kids aggresivness, there is a HUGE difference between a video game and the thing we live in called reality. And minecraft is way farther from reality then almost any of those games! I mean come on, its pixelated. Enough said. So the argument that it will make children more violent really isnt valid at all. Just a bonus point, chopping someone with a sword is way more violent the shooting them with a gun. Just saying.

While the idea of lockable chests sounds good, ender chests seem to do that already. If you put something into an ender chest, you are the only one thats able to take it out, and if the ender chest is destroyed it will not drop anything. So in essence you don't need a locked chests.

As far as chests go though, I personally would like to see a chest like the ender chest, only other players CAN take items you put in there out making it a sort of mail system, where you can put an item in at your base, and they can take the item out at their base the instant you put it in.

It makes more sense to just use the already existing render distance setting.

But to my knowledge render distance does not change the chunk size. I have played on a computer which was pretty slow, and render distance did not change the amount of lag. Meaning, i had the same amount of lag on tiny that i did on normal. So decreasing chunk size seems to make more sense when it comes to reducing lag. I could be totally wrong on this theory, so correct me if I am please.

Great idea, I've wanted something like this for a while now.

I'd just like to point out that this is minecraft, and as realistic as it is, its not realistic. So because it's not exactly realistic, whats to stop an unlimited height to the world? and if there still as a problem with unlimited height not being realistic, Mount Everest rises rises almost 9km above sea level which translates to about 9000 minecraft blocks high. This being said, the idea of running into space seems too have more issues than unlimited building in my thinking.

I do like the idea of being able to customize the height and depth though. With unlimited as one of the options of course.

Also to go along with the new chunk modification, maybe custom size Chunk cubes? My reason for this; if your computer is slower and lags a lot you could turn down the size of the chunks stored so that your game runs slower. and if you have a fast computer, you have the advantage of turning up the chunk size which has the advantage of being able to see more. Just a suggestion.

I support this idea. I would love to be able to build a city high enough where you cant see it from the ground.

One more suggestion a little off topic, but still in the same idea of things. Through my time in playing minecraft i've noticed that moving verticle distances, ie.. climbing stairs, water, ladders, and pillar jumping take a long time. So a topic for another forum.. some way to climb unlimited heights and depths a little faster if these features were implemented.
